Web 3.0 Tools Employed In Private High School Library Media Centres In Zimbabwe: The Case Of Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Elton Tafataona Moyo, Takawira Machimbidza

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

The study was carried out to gain insight into the Web 3.0 technologies used by high school library media specialists in private schools around Bulawayo Metropolitan Province in Zimbabwe. The study adopted the interpretivist paradigm with a qualitative approach and a multiple-case study research strategy. The population of this study comprised of school library media specialists from ten private high schools in Bulawayo Metropolitan Province. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. Data were analysed using content analysis. Findings reveal that school library media specialists use a cocktail of Web 3.0 tools which include WhatsApp, Google Classroom, Facebook, Zoom, wikis, …

Theoretical Investigations Of The Structural, Dynamical, Electronic, Magnetic, And Thermoelectric Properties Of CoMRhsi (M = Cr, Mn) Quaternary Heusler Alloys, Abdullah Hzzazi, Hind Alqurashi, Eesha Andharia, Bothina Hamad, M. O. Manasreh Jan 2024

The structural, dynamical, electrical, magnetic, and thermoelectric properties of CoMRhSi (M = Cr, Mn) quaternary Heusler alloys (QHAs) were investigated using density functional theory (DFT). The Y-type-II crystal structure was found to be the most stable configuration for these QHAs. Both CoCrRhSi and CoMnRhSi alloys possess a half-metallic behavior with a 100% spin-polarization as the majority spin channel is metallic. On the other hand, the minority spin channel is semiconducting with narrow indirect band gaps of 0.54 eV and 0.57 eV, respectively, along the Γ−𝑋 high symmetry line. In addition, both CoCrRhSi and CoMnRhSi alloys possess a ferromagnetic structure …

Protein aggregation is linked to many chronic and devastating neurodegenerative human diseases and is strongly associated with aging. This work demonstrates that protein aggregation and oligomerization can be evaluated by a solid-state nanopore method at the single molecule level. A silicon nitride nanopore sensor was used to characterize both the amyloidogenic and native-state oligomerization of a model protein ß-lactoglobulin variant A (βLGa). The findings from the nanopore measurements are validated against atomic force microscopy (AFM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) data, comparing βLGa aggregation from the same samples at various stages. By calibrating with linear and circular dsDNA, this study …

Tunable And Parabolic Piezoelectricity In Hafnia Under Epitaxial Strain, Hao Cheng, Peijie Jiao, Jian Wang, Mingkai Qing, Yu Deng, Jun-Ming Liu, Laurent Bellaiche, Di Wu, Yurong Yang Jan 2024

Piezoelectrics are a class of functional materials that have been extensively used for application in modern electro-mechanical and mechatronics technologies. The sign of longitudinal piezoelectric coefficients is typically positive but recently a few ferroelectrics, such as ferroelectric polymer poly(vinylidene fluoride) and van der Waals ferroelectric CuInP2S6, were experimentally found to have negative piezoelectricity. Here, using first-principles calculation and measurements, we show that the sign of the longitudinal linear piezoelectric coefficient of HfO2 can be tuned from positive to negative via epitaxial strain. Nonlinear and even parabolic piezoelectric behaviors are further found at tensile epitaxial strain. …

Mechanical, Electronic, Optical, Piezoelectric And Ferroic Properties Of Strained Graphene And Other Strained Monolayers And Multilayers: An Update, Gerardo G. Naumis, Saul A. Herrera, Shiva Prasad Poudel, Hiro Nakamura, Salvador Barraza-Lopez Jan 2024

Mechanical, Electronic, Optical, Piezoelectric And Ferroic Properties Of Strained Graphene And Other Strained Monolayers And Multilayers: An Update, Gerardo G. Naumis, Saul A. Herrera, Shiva Prasad Poudel, Hiro Nakamura, Salvador Barraza-Lopez

This is an update of a previous review (Naumis et al 2017 Rep. Prog. Phys.80 096501). Experimental and theoretical advances for straining graphene and other metallic, insulating, ferroelectric, ferroelastic, ferromagnetic and multiferroic 2D materials were considered. We surveyed (i) methods to induce valley and sublattice polarisation (P) in graphene, (ii) time-dependent strain and its impact on graphene's electronic properties, (iii) the role of local and global strain on superconductivity and other highly correlated and/or topological phases of graphene, (iv) inducing polarisation P on hexagonal boron nitride monolayers via strain, (v) modifying the optoelectronic properties of transition metal …

Effect Of Strain Profiling On Anisotropic Opto-Electronic Properties Of As2X3 (X =S, Te) Monolayers From First Principles, Eesha Andharia, Hind Alqurashi, Ihsan Erikat, Bothina Hamad, M. O. Manasreh Jan 2024

Effect Of Strain Profiling On Anisotropic Opto-Electronic Properties Of As2X3 (X =S, Te) Monolayers From First Principles, Eesha Andharia, Hind Alqurashi, Ihsan Erikat, Bothina Hamad, M. O. Manasreh

Physics Faculty Publications and Presentations

Strain Engineering is a widely adopted approach to modulate the opto-electronic performance of 2-Dimensional (2D) materials. Recently, anisotropic Van der Waals (vdW) based 2D As2S3 monolayer has gained significant attention within the scientific community due to its stability in ambient conditions. Similar compounds like As2Te3 have also been theoretically explored. However, its indirect bandgap nature limits its application in optical devices. In this study, a systematic study of compressive and tensile strain on three profiles–Uniaxial along a-axis, Uniaxial along b-axis and biaxial strain from −10% to +10%, is performed for As2S3 …
