The manipulation of anisotropic nanoparticles, such as gold nanorods and nano prisms, has attracted great attention in nanotechnology due to their sensitive geometry-dependent properties. However. traditional synthesis and assembly methods for these particles face challenges in size uniformity and higher-order structuring. To address these limitations, this study presents a strategy using DNA origami triangles, not just as templates, but as encapsulating agents for gold nanotriangles (AuNTs). This method enables the construction of diverse nanoparticle clusters with precisely controlled distance and orientation. The formed clusters exhibit unique optical characteristics, demonstrated by UV-visible spectroscopy and supported by finite-difference time domain (FDTD) simulations. …

Transnational online education has become an emerging trend in promoting academic collaboration and exchange in higher education during and after the pandemic. Guided by the learning ecology framework, we conducted concurrent mixed methods research by distributing an online survey to Chinese students (N=51) to collect quantitative and qualitative data. This helped us deeply understand their experiences and perceptions of a cross-cultural online learning environment in the United States. We applied multiple regression and thematic analysis to analyze the data. The merging of both types of data analysis indicated the confirmation of the importance of discipline-based English learning environments, the transformation …

Effect Of Δnp63Β On Cell Cycle And Apoptosis In T98g Cells, Buse Turegun Atasoy, Fi̇kret Sahin
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Background/aim: The p53 protein, a crucial tumor suppressor, governs cell cycle regulation and apoptosis. Similarly, p63, a member of the p53 family, exhibits traits of both tumor suppression and oncogenic behavior through its isoforms. However, the functional impact of ΔNp63β, an isoform of the p63 protein, on human glioma cancer cells like T98G cells remains poorly understood, representing the novelty of this study in the current literature.Materials, methods: Employing the pRetroX-Tet-On vector system, we investigated ΔNp63β's apoptotic effects on T98G cell lines and assessed its influence on the cell cycle. Initially, we established a rtTA-expressing vector, a component of the …

Gendered Orientalism And The Agency Of Syrian, Muslim Women Refugees, Karen Culcasi
Gendered Orientalism And The Agency Of Syrian, Muslim Women Refugees, Karen Culcasi
Faculty & Staff Scholarship
Orientalist discourses have long recirculated the idea that Muslim women are oppressed victims of Islam; an idea that has denigrated Muslims and positioned white, Christians as superior. For Muslim women refugees specifically, the gendered orientalist discourse of victimization has reappeared on both sides of the debate on Syrian refugee resettlement in the United States (U.S.) (and other Western states). Within anti-resettlement circles, the narrative of Muslim women as oppressed victims has been leveraged as a reason to stop Syrian refugee resettlement; based on a rationale that their lifestyles and values are incompatible with liberal, Western societies. Pro-resettlement circles, on the …

The Private Law Of Self-Help, João Marinotti
The Private Law Of Self-Help, João Marinotti
Articles by Maurer Faculty
Individuals regularly take steps to protect themselves, their property, and their broader legal interests. They carry pepper spray, have guard dogs, and install fences. Such measures are colloquially deemed methods of self-help. Yet, despite its ubiquity, self-help as a legal concept has been chronically understudied. Consequently, American private law is missing a doctrinally coherent and prescriptively useful framework for self-help. As a matter of legal theory, this conceptual void is problematic in and of itself; the doctrinal incoherence stemming from this analytical gap decreases the law’s stability and undermines its predictability.
But the concern is not merely theoretical. The magnitude …
Mechanistic Insights Into Direct Interactions That Mediate The Activity Of Dot1l Complex In Mll-Rearranged Leukemia, Ali Cihan
Student Theses and Dissertations
Acute leukemia can arise from the translocation-mediated fusion of the N terminus of the Mixed Lineage Leukemia (MLL) protein to various partner proteins. Although more than 60 different translocation-based fusion proteins have been identified, fusion partners such as AF9, AF10, and ENL constitute the majority of the MLL-rearranged leukemia cases; additionally, these fusion partners are also a part of the DOT1L (disruptor of telomeric silencing 1-like) complex. Aberrant histone H3 Lysine 79 (H3K79) methylation catalyzed by DOT1L was shown to be crucial for the maintenance of MLL-rearranged leukemia. DOT1L is the only known H3K79 methyltransferase, and further, a DOT1L inhibitor …
Rna Therapeutics For Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma, Christoph Neumayer
Rna Therapeutics For Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma, Christoph Neumayer
Student Theses and Dissertations
Fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma (FLC) is a rare liver cancer characterized by a recurrent fusion of the heat shock protein DNAJB1 and the catalytic subunit of protein kinase A (PRKACA). Due to limited efficacy of conventional treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation my work explored new therapeutic options. As DNAJB1::PRKACA is known to initiate tumorigenesis, I reasoned that it would be an ideal target for a therapeutic. However, it was not known if FLC tumors are still dependent on DNAJB1::PRKACA or if cells achieved independence of the initial oncogene. To test if FLC is dependent on the oncokinase I screened short …

This report presents a synopsis of the results from the 2024 study commissioned by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) in fall 2023 at the request of the Indiana General Assembly.
Expenditures: Lighter vehicle classes saw their share of cost responsibility decline between 2015 and 2024, while the heavier vehicle classes saw their responsibilities increase within this period. This change is explained by a diametric shift in expenditure type patterns between the two eras from construction-dominant to maintenance-dominant expenditures. In this context, it is worth noting that these expenditure types have different ratios of attributable costs to common costs.
Revenues: …

Considering the challenges hindering the widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and heavy-duty electric vehicles(HDEVs), the integration of dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) technology into roadways has gained interest. By embedding DWPT components into pavement, electrical power can be delivered to an EV or HDEV as they are in motion. Yet, large-scale implementation depends on further in-depth research, both to explore optimal construction methods and to understand the impact of embedment on the pavement’s resultant behavior. The objective of this project was trifold: (1) design and evaluate a transmitter-receiver topology for DWPT, (2) enhance the understanding of the interaction between …

This study analyzed the historical trends in change orders (COs) associated with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) highway contracts. It also investigated correlations between COs and base factors (district, project type, contract type, award amount, geographical area (rural vs. urban)), and sought to understand the effect of the root causes but not to predict CO based on root causes. Unlike the base factors, the root causes are unknown prior to construction. The study developed models that forecasted CO characteristics—CO likelihood, CO frequency (count), and CO severity (magnitude) and CO impacts (cost overrun and schedule delay). To address these research …

We present the Urban Nature Indexes (UNI), a comprehensive tool that measures urban ecological performance under one standard framework linked to global commitments. The UNI was developed by interdisciplinary experts and evaluated by practitioners from diverse cities to capture each city’s ecological footprint from local to global scale. The UNI comprises six themes (consumption drivers, human pressures, habitat status, species status, nature’s contributions to people, and governance responses) that encompass measurable impacts on climate change, biodiversity loss, ecosystem services, pollution, consumption, water management, and equity within one comprehensive system. Cities then adapt the UNI to their context and capacity by …

Models of shift work and health suggest that individual differences in circadian rhythm characteristics may moderate the relationship between night shift work and injury, but this argument has not been directly tested. In this study, we tested the efficacy of two circadian rhythm characteristics—vigour and flexibility—as moderators of the path between shift work and injury. In addition, we aimed to replicate the association between vigour, flexibility, and alertness by time of day, and the measurement properties of the Circadian Type Inventory. We recruited 401 healthcare workers from Australia and Great Britain. After controlling for confounding variables, the results showed that …

A Bioarchaeological Overview Of The Late Woodland Period Gooden Mound Group, Fulton County, Illinois, Aaron M. Durchholz
Theses and Dissertations
Extensive research in paleopathology has documented adverse effects accompanying a shift in subsistence strategy from largely nomadic, hunting and gathering lifestyles to those of more sedentary, agrarian systems. Comparative assessment of the human skeletal remains of early foragers and later farmers recovered from archaeological sites around the world have consistently demonstrated a decrease in average age at death in the latter.
Across the pre-Columbian North American Midwest, the transitional period between the Late Woodland and Mississippian periods, sometimes referred to as the terminal or Mississippian Acculturated Late Woodland, portended establishment of semi-permanent to permanent hamlets, increasingly reliant upon the adoption …

Theses and Dissertations
Menopause is a transitional phase in a woman’s life, and society is filled with negative stereotypes of women in menopause. Menopause is a difficult period for many women due to hormonal fluctuations, changes in their bodies, and various other health effects. The negative stereotypes of menopause in the media can cause the general public to hold negative perceptions regarding menopausal women (Gannon and Stevens 1998). The purpose of my two-part study was to extend prior research surrounding perceptions of menopause and look specifically at young people’s perceptions of women in menopause, as well as women’s experiences with menopause.

Microaggressions And Their Impact On The Neurodiverse College Experience, Audre J. Knecht
Theses and Dissertations
Previous literature indicates that people with invisible disabilities (including neurodiversity) are at an increased risk of ableist microaggressions, especially on college campuses. Neurodivergent college students (N=13) were interviewed about their college experiences at a midwestern university in the United States. While only a few students reported experiencing microaggressions, there were overall themes of mistreatment from their instructors, watching other students experience microaggressions, feelings of depression, anxiety, and hopelessness, and the desire to mask neurodivergent traits to feel accepted at their university.

It’S Giving Genocide: What Feminist Theory, Indigenous Thought, And Queer Theory Have To Say About Climate Change, Owen George
MS in Environmental Studies Master's Theses
Climate change is having profound impacts on communities around the world. In some cases, and with time, more and more, the impacts of climate change are happening on a level that constitutes genocide. Raphaël Lemkin’s and Claudia Card’s definitions of genocide are most applicable to climate change as they have broader understandings of victim groups and social death, and they recognize that inaction to prevent reasonably foreseeable harm constitutes genocidal intent. The UN’s more rigid definition does, to a lesser extent, also apply to climate change. Across the three definitions examined here, the argument of climate change as genocide is …

Enzymatic And Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction Of Bioactive Triterpenoids From Centella Asiatica, Zue Zue Win Myat
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Centella asiatica (L.) Urban, commonly known as gotu kola or bua-bok in Thai, is a medicinal herb valued for its rich content of pharmacologically active triterpenoids, notably asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic acid, and madecassic acid. These compounds contribute to a range of therapeutic effects, including wound healing, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and neuroprotective activities. However, conventional extraction methods such as maceration and Soxhlet extraction are often constrained by long processing times, high solvent usage, and low extraction efficiency. To address these limitations, this study investigates an integrated green extraction strategy that combines enzymatic pretreatment with ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) for the efficient recovery …
