Some Aspects Of The Theology Of The City In Ane Literature And Biblical Protology And Eschatology: A Comparative Study, Vlatko Dir Feb 2024

Some Aspects Of The Theology Of The City In Ane Literature And Biblical Protology And Eschatology: A Comparative Study, Vlatko Dir

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

The city is an essential accomplishment that is embedded in the foundations of human civilization. From its mature appearance in Sumer and its developed forms throughout the ANE world, the city held a high place in cosmology, cosmogony, and anthropogony. The ideology and theology of the city created by the ANE peoples were built around and presented through the interplay of the triangle of influences and dependencies formed by the city, the temple, and kingship in conjunction with the gods. The question is whether the same construct is ingeminated in the Bible. This dissertation strives to provide an appropriate context …

Up-to-date, easy to read, and useful, this book has earned a permanent place on my bookshelf. In this review I provide a review organized by themes. I describe each theme, offer excepts from the text that represent the theme and explain its importance to …

Building Community For Those Living With Hiv: Co-Empowerment And Participatory Action Research, Patricia M. Miller Dr., Brent Oliver Dr., Ken Lapointe, Kim A. Samson, Vincenzo Sabella Mr. Feb 2024

Building Community For Those Living With Hiv: Co-Empowerment And Participatory Action Research, Patricia M. Miller Dr., Brent Oliver Dr., Ken Lapointe, Kim A. Samson, Vincenzo Sabella Mr.

The Qualitative Report

The Calgary HIV Social Society (CHSS) self-determined and organized several social-recreational monthly events to reduce and understand the effects of social isolation and stigma that people living with HIV face every day. It has been found that COVID-19 had impacted the lives of people living with HIV by creating significant isolation for those already stigmatized because of living with HIV. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology and focus group at the end of the events, the research showed how COVID 19, and the related concurring isolation has impacted the lives of people living with HIV. The research included three …

Strengthening National Infrastructure Resilience: A Strategy For Addressing The Evolving Challenge Of Insider Threats, Alan Saquella

Publications

The current landscape of critical infrastructure organizations is undergoing a paradigm shift, characterized by dynamic workforce structures that include remote, hybrid, and diverse work settings, alongside generational transformations. However, this shift presents a formidable challenge—the persistent and escalating threat of insider threats and attacks. Reports estimating the cost per insider threat incident at over $15 million underscore the urgency for a broad and thorough approach encompassing prevention, mitigation, investigation, and reporting mechanisms.

Training Considerations For The Identification And Investigation Of Human Trafficking Cases In Law Enforcement: A Case Study, Emilie O. Coleman

Masters Theses

The purpose of this qualitative case study is to identify the need for specialized training in identifying and investigating human trafficking cases to be provided to law enforcement officers. Approximately 40 million people are victims of human trafficking, and the numbers continue to grow each year. Front-line officers are generally under-prepared to recognize and handle human trafficking cases which shows the need to provide effective and appropriate training to help identify victims and investigate human trafficking cases. Research to provide a solution is guided by a qualitative case study investigation for the purpose of developing and proposing actionable changes law …

New Hampshire Employees Working In Small Firms Lack Access To Paid Family And Medical Leave, Kristin E. Smith

Carsey Publications

In this brief, author Kristin Smith reports that in December 2022, just prior to the launch of the NH Paid Family and Medical Leave Program, 40 percent of New Hampshire workers did not have access to paid medical, parental, or family leave. In its first year, the program reached 14,712 workers or less than 3 percent of Granite State workers. Workers in small firms report lower rates of access than workers in larger firms. Women also have lower access to paid leave than men. In addition to a lack of awareness, low enrollment may be linked to NH Paid Family …

Does Intergenerational Trauma Influence Growth Or Fixed Mindset Among Ethnic Minorities?, Kevin Ladunn Thomas Feb 2024

Does Intergenerational Trauma Influence Growth Or Fixed Mindset Among Ethnic Minorities?, Kevin Ladunn Thomas

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Intergenerational trauma is a phenomenon commonly experienced by ethnic minorities in the United States. This type of trauma can profoundly affect individuals, families, and communities. Despite the prevalence and importance of intergenerational trauma, little research has investigated the link between intergenerational trauma and individuals’ mindsets. Therefore, the purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to understand the perceptions, experiences, and beliefs of ethnic minorities with intergenerational trauma regarding fixed and growth mindsets. The theory guiding this study was Carol Dweck’s mindset theory. To assess the influence of intergenerational trauma on ethnic minorities’ mindsets, 12 individuals from ethnic minority backgrounds were …

Examining The Negotiation Model Of The Disputed Boundary Between Indonesia And Malaysia On Sebatik Island, Amin Nurdin, Sudjito Atmoredjo, I Made Andi Arsana

Indonesian Journal of International Law

Sebatik Island is a disputed territory between Indonesia and Malaysia, known as one of the Outstanding Boundary Problems (OBP). The island was divided into two parts by the Dutch and British, based on the 1891 Boundary Convention and the 1915 Boundary Agreement. In 2019, after a long negotiation process, the two countries agreed to re-demarcate the boundary line by planting new boundary pillars. The results of the re-demarcation have not yet been agreed upon by Indonesia and Malaysia, resulting in unclear boundaries of sovereignty and jurisdiction. This study aims to examine the negotiation model of dispute resolution on Sebatik Island. …

Hybrid Interpersonal Violence In Latin America: Causes And Patterns, Abigail Weitzman, Mónica Caudillo, Eldad J. Levy Feb 2024

Hybrid Interpersonal Violence In Latin America: Causes And Patterns, Abigail Weitzman, Mónica Caudillo, Eldad J. Levy

Faculty Publications

In this review, we argue that to understand patterns and causes of violence in contemporary Latin America, we must explicitly consider when violence takes on interpersonal qualities. We begin by reviewing prominent definitions and measurements of interpersonal violence. We then detail the proliferation of interlocking sources of regional insecurity, including gender-based violence, gangs, narcotrafficking, vigilantism, and political corruption. Throughout this description, we highlight when and how each source of insecurity can become interpersonal. Next, we outline mutually reinforcing macro and micro conditions underlying interpersonal violence in its many hybrid forms. To conclude, we call for more multifaceted conceptualizations of interpersonal …

Are We Accurately Counting The Disabled Population In The United States?, Nastassia Vaitsiakhovich, Scott D. Landes, Bonnielin K. Swenor

Population Health Research Brief Series

Over 1 in 4 Americans are disabled (26.8%), yet health disparities for this subpopulation remain under-addressed. Tackling health disparities for people with disabilities requires effective public health and disability policies that cannot be developed without standardized and accurate disability data. The National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) annually collects data on health outcomes for the non-institutionalized U.S. population, including those with disabilities. The questions to measure disability in the NHIS have changed over time, raising concerns about how these changes affect the accuracy of the count of people with disabilities in the U.S. This brief summarizes findings from a recent study …

Cookies And Calamari: Squid Game’S “Dalgona” And Cutting Shapes From Its Impact On Korean Product Purchase And Travel Intentions, Wei Wang, Patrick Tyson, Haeden Overby

AMTP Proceedings 2024

This study explores individuals’ perceptions and attitudes toward Korean popular (henceforth referenced as Kpop) culture. Additionally, this study also aims to assess the impact of Kpop culture on consumers’ Korean product purchase and travel behaviors. Self-construal theory and social identity theory – being applied at individual and collective levels, respectively – will be employed within a qualitative, semi-structured, and inductive approach, an arrangement based around the game of “Dalgona” as seen in the Squid Game Korean Drama (henceforth referenced as K-Dramas). Study data may lend itself to both expansion of theoretical understanding regarding the study model and progression of marketer …

Unearthing Green Potential: Assessing The State Of Managed Urban Landscape Curricula In Minnesota’S Higher Education Institutions, Michael R. Barnes, Heana A. Campagna, Becky Haddad, Eric Watkins

Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications

As urbanization increases, managed urban landscapes are frequently the mode through which people experience nature and where careers in natural resources are increasing. There is a lack of knowledge related to curricula and programs where students are exposed to managed urban landscapes and careers related to them. We aimed to evaluate the current status of managed urban landscape curricula (MULC) in undergraduate programs in Minnesota through a systematic investigation of programs and courses at higher education institutions. All undergraduate courses offered by included higher education institutions were reviewed to determine the presence, absence, or possibility of MULC based on the …

Effects Of Uncertainty Avoidance On Film-Motivated Tourists' Perceptions Of Destination Image, Place Attachment, And Intentions, Patrick Tyson, Wei Wang Feb 2024

Effects Of Uncertainty Avoidance On Film-Motivated Tourists' Perceptions Of Destination Image, Place Attachment, And Intentions, Patrick Tyson, Wei Wang

AMTP Proceedings 2024

In an attempt to increase understanding of such film-motivated traveler bases, this study will apply self-congruence, film, and culture factors within a touristic background. This background, coming from a cross-cultural analysis between the Brazilian and Japanese episodes from the Netflix docuseries Street Food, will allow for exploration and analysis of the following research question: How does uncertainty avoidance affect the relationship between film-motivated tourists’ perceptions of destination image, place attachment, and travel intentions?

Study purposes include 1) examining mediation effects of place attachment in relationship between self-congruity theory and travel behavioral intentions and 2) evaluating moderation effects of film …

New Calabi–Yau Manifolds From Genetic Algorithms, Per Berglund, Yang-Hui He, Elli Heyes, Edward Hirst, Vishnu Jejjala, Andre Lukas

Faculty Publications

Calabi–Yau manifolds can be obtained as hypersurfaces in toric varieties built from reflexive polytopes. We generate reflexive polytopes in various dimensions using a genetic algorithm. As a proof of principle, we demonstrate that our algorithm reproduces the full set of reflexive polytopes in two and three dimensions, and in four dimensions with a small number of vertices and points. Motivated by this result, we construct five-dimensional reflexive polytopes with the lowest number of vertices and points. By calculating the normal form of the polytopes, we establish that many of these are not in existing datasets and therefore give rise to …

''When We Speak Faculty Listen:'' Exploring Potential Spaces For Students To Support Lecturer Academic Development, Rebecca Turner, Lucy Spowart, Harriet C. Dismore, E. A. Beckmann, Rachael A. J. Carkett, Tashmin Khamis

Office of the Provost

Lecturers’ engagement in professional development activities to enhance their academic practice is firmly embedded within the landscape of higher education. Although enhancing the student learning experience underpins teaching-related continuing professional development (CPD), interestingly the role of students in supporting such activities has been underexplored. Drawing on data captured from eight student representatives interviewed in the context of an international impact evaluation, we examine student awareness of, and attitudes towards, lecturers’ CPD. Participants recognised the value of lecturers engaging in CPD but believed it to be an activity they were removed from, and had little opportunity to engage with. We consider …

College of Communication and Media Scholarship and Creative Works

The continuation of America’s most popular sport meeting the world’s most famous pop star seems destined to dominate the airwaves and social media next weekend. Findings from the study included the following. First, in the period when the Chiefs and 49ers advanced to Super Bowl LVIII, Taylor Swift related #superbowl posts on “X” (formerly known as Twitter) totaled more than the COMBINED number of posts about the game’s QB’s and even her beau, Travis Kelce. Second, the social mentions of Taylor Swift and Super Bowl reached two million in the seven-day period (January 28 – February 3, 2024) after Chiefs’ …

UNLABELLED: Advances in genetic technology have led to the increasing use of genomic panels in precision oncology practice, with panels ranging from a couple to hundreds of genes. However, the clinical utilization and utility of oncology genomic panels, especially among vulnerable populations, is unclear. We examined the association of panel size with socioeconomic status and clinical trial matching. We retrospectively identified 9,886 eligible adult subjects in the Mayo Clinic Health System who underwent genomic testing between January 1, 2016 and June 30, 2020. Patient data were retrieved from structured and unstructured data sources of institutional collections, including cancer registries, clinical …

Video Game Concerts: Unending Consumption On Video Game Platforms, David Arditi Feb 2024

Video Game Concerts: Unending Consumption On Video Game Platforms, David Arditi

SAGE Open Access Agreement Publications-Archive

Over the past several decades, video games have gone from single-purpose games to multifaceted platforms. This article is a case study that develops ‘unending consumption’ to understand the political economy of video game concerts. Unending consumption is the expansion of the means of consumption under a subscription model. By applying unending consumption to the political economy of video games, I show how video game concerts are embedded in the current moment of capitalism. The new political economy of video games blurs the line between video games and music as distinct media—an element of convergence. While video games and music converge …

How I Obtained My Phd Admission Letter: A Reflective Interaction-Based Autoethnography, Qing Xu, Kei Wei Chia

The Qualitative Report

This account utilises autoethnography to explore how the “one-child generation’s” cultural context influences behaviours and character traits, focusing on the first author’s experiences during a 5-month doctoral program application. It examines interactions with the employer, unacquainted individuals, intermediaries, and family, encapsulated in three Episodes, to analyse the personality traits of this generation. The findings reveal that, though deeply rooted in traditional culture, character traits such as risk aversion, caution, and family dependency are not immutable. It highlights the potential for personal transformation through inward growth, proactive external engagement, and the support of families who challenge traditional norms. In terms of …
