Peptide receptor radionucleotide therapy (PRRT) with 177Lu-dotatate is widely used for the treatment of patients with neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). We analyzed data from 104 patients with NETs treated with 177Lu -dotatate at a US academic center between December 2017 and October 2020 to better understand patterns of long-term efficacy, safety, and toxicity in the real-world setting. 177Lu-dotatate (200 mCi) was administered every eight weeks for four doses. The most common sites of primary disease were small intestine NETs (n = 49, 47%), pancreatic NETs (n = 32, 31%), and lung NETs (n = 7, 7%). Twenty-seven percent had Ki-6720%. The …

Food Insecurity Amongst College Students: A Survey-Based Study On Student Perceptions And Assessment Of Food Security And Food Sovereignty On Campus, Matthew Labelle, Alissar Sobh, Rebecca D. Neusner
Directed Experiential Education Final Project
Food insecurity is a growing issue on college campuses across the United States. Specifically, as student demographics shift away from full-time college students to part-time students with less disposable income, there are rising concerns about the nutrition, quality, and access to food on campus. Our research group was tasked with assessing, analyzing, and evaluating the food security and food systems of the Johnson & Wales University’s Harborside Campus. To this extent, we developed an anonymous questionnaire to poll students on their food sources and the quality of those food sources. To start, the questionnaire gathered basic demographic data such as …
The Influence Of Abiotic Stress And Cultivar Variation On Plant Defenses And Resistance To Emerald Ash Borer (Agrilus Planipennis) In Cultivated Olive (Olea Spp), Idris B. Elesin
Browse all Theses and Dissertations
Emerald ash borer (EAB), Agrilus planipennis, is an invasive pest that significantly impacts olive trees (Olea europaea). This study aimed to assess the role of abiotic stress factors such as drought and salinity in influencing plant defenses and resistance to EAB, while also examining cultivar variation in resistance. The study specifically aimed to address: (1) What effects do varying degrees of abiotic stress (drought, salinity) have on olive trees' antioxidant and peroxidase activity in olive tree? (2) Do distinct olive cultivars exhibit varying levels of resistance to EAB under various stressors? We used a controlled experimental design with two stress …
Reimagining Equitable Care: Simulation-Based Education And The Dismantling Of Implicit Bias And Stigma Of Vulnerable Populations In Hospitals, Vanessa Smith
Nursing | Senior Theses
Background: Simulation-based education consists of using high-fidelity mannequins and equipment to provide a safe space for healthcare professionals to practice crucial skills within healthcare. Used within hospitals and schools, simulation most commonly surrounds practicing hands-on skills such as central line insertion, IV insertion, Ultrasound-guided procedures, code blue response, etc. However, a large portion of healthcare that is overlooked is tackling issues within patient-provider relationships. Simulation can help dismantle the negative behaviors and feelings providers push onto patients through the use of standardized patients and role-playing. By using these methods, simulation can reduce providers’ personal implicit biases and the stigma associated …

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of posture changes on vascular compliance in intracranial (brain) vs. extracranial vascular beds (forearm). Eighteen young adults (nine females) performed a supine-to-seated-to-standing protocol involving five minutes of rest in each position. Continuous blood pressure, middle cerebral artery (MCA) blood velocity, and brachial artery blood velocity were recorded at each posture. Three to five consecutive steady-state cardiac cycles at each posture were analyzed by a four-element lumped parameter modified Windkessel model to calculate vascular compliance. Mean arterial pressure (MAP) increased from supine to seated (76[9] vs 81[12] mmHg; P=0.006) and from …

Role Of Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 Signaling In Diet-Enhanced Bone Elongation, Cassaundra A. White
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Childhood obesity has increased precipitously to the point that almost 20% of children between the ages of 2 and 19 have been diagnosed with obesity. While obesity is a complex metabolic disorder, one contributing factor is diet, particularly a diet high in fat. Among many problems associated with diet-induced obesity, the impact on skeletal health is often overlooked. In addition to increased stress on the skeleton due to excess weight, obesity also disrupts the endocrine and immune systems that, in turn, can secondarily alter skeletal growth. Obesity during the early years of childhood is particularly detrimental because the skeleton is …

Community Impact: Murals & Public Art, Annie Dong
Theses & ETDs
This thesis project integrates social practice and multiculturalism theory with public art murals and involves producing art in both gallery spaces and public spaces resulting in two large mural installations that examine the benefits that public art and social activism have on communities, drawing inspiration from artists including Judy Baca and Michelle Angela Ortiz. Through this work, I examine both the role of public murals as a catalyst for community building as well as the impact of adolescent participation in the creation of community murals on their well-being using the Basic Psychological Needs Satisfaction Theory (BPNS). As part of the …
Quantitative Analysis Of Freely-Circulating Vs. Exosomal Micrornas In Canine Congestive Heart Failure Secondary To Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease, Lola Lyons
Theses & ETDs
Myxomatous Mitral Valve Disease (MMVD) remains to be the number one cause of Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) in dogs. Mainly characterized by mitral regurgitation in the left atrium, MMVD can lead to fatal heart failure down the line. MicroRNAs, which are small, noncoding RNAs about 21-25 nucleotides in length that regulate gene expression, can be found freely-circulating throughout the blood, extracellular fluid, intracellular fluid and interstitial fluid, or in extracellular vesicles such as exosomes. These vesicles play a role in the transportation of various molecules as well as in intercellular communication. Previous studies show microRNAs display statistically significant expression levels …

CGU Theses & Dissertations
Against the backdrop of American agriculture, a significant educational challenge persists: the academic attainment of migrant children. Each year, an estimated 850,000 young migrants accompany their families, constituting a crucial workforce responsible for 75% of our nation's agricultural output. Despite their indispensable role, migrant students confront profound educational disparities, with only 51% managing to graduate from high school, a figure notably lower than the national average of 85%. This educational gap underscores the pressing need to address the unique academic hurdles encountered by migrant children. This dissertation investigates the interpretation and implementation of policies within the Migrant Education Program (MEP), …
