Assessing Cover Crop Adoption Factors In The Rio Grande Valley Through A Social-Ecological Perspective, Mackenzie Feldman
Assessing Cover Crop Adoption Factors In The Rio Grande Valley Through A Social-Ecological Perspective, Mackenzie Feldman
Theses and Dissertations
Reducing agriculture’s negative environmental impacts is crucial for mitigating climate change (White, 2021). Cover crops– non-cash crops grown to benefit subsequent cash crops– can slow erosion, improve soil health, enhance water availability, control pests, and increase biodiversity. Despite these benefits, adoption rates remain low, prompting the USDA and other organizations to fund research on increasing their use. Most studies focus on the Midwest and Northeast, and emphasize individual factors over the relationship between structural factors and individual factors that impact farmers’ decisions to adopt cover crops. This USDA-funded study begins to fill this gap by exploring social-ecological factors and how …

Comparison Of The Effect Of Heavy Pulls Vs Light Powers On A Subsequent Clean In Trained Athletes, Luke Devirgiliis
Comparison Of The Effect Of Heavy Pulls Vs Light Powers On A Subsequent Clean In Trained Athletes, Luke Devirgiliis
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The sport of weightlifting has been competed since the first modern Olympiad. Competition in weightlifting consists of 3 attempts the snatch and clean and jerk declared by the athlete and their coach prior to the starting of the lift. While waiting for the athlete’s lift, waiting periods can change and warm up attempts may need to be adjusted. Often, coaches prescribe either a complete “light power” or partial “heavy pull” repetition of the competed movement during a long wait. Previous literature indicates that a heavier stimulus may cause a “post-activation potentiation”, or “post-activation performance enhancement” effect on the subsequent lift. …

Detecting Anomalies In Dynamic Attributed Graphs: An Unsupervised Learning Approach, Austin Hamilton
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Dynamic attributed graphs, which evolve over time and hold node-specific attributes, are essential in fields like social network analysis, where anomalous node detection is a growing area. Vehicular social networks (VSNs), a subset of these graphs, are ad hoc networks in which vehicles exchange data with one another and with infrastructure. In this dynamic context, identifying anomalous nodes is challenging but crucial for maintaining trust within the network. This work presents an unsupervised deep learning approach for anomalous node detection in VSNs. This model achieved an accuracy of 71% while detecting synthetic anomalies in a simulated network based on real-world …

Individual Dynamic Prediction For Cure And Survival Based On Longitudinal Biomarkers, Can Xie, Xuelin Huang, Ruosha Li, Alexander Tsodikov, Kapil Bhalla
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
To optimize personalized treatment strategies and extend patients' survival times, it is critical to accurately predict patients' prognoses at all stages, from disease diagnosis to follow-up visits. The longitudinal biomarker measurements during visits are essential for this prediction purpose. Patients' ultimate concerns are cure and survival. However, in many situations, there is no clear biomarker indicator for cure. We propose a comprehensive joint model of longitudinal and survival data and a landmark cure model, incorporating proportions of potentially cured patients. The survival distributions in the joint and landmark models are specified through flexible hazard functions with the proportional hazards as …

BACKGROUND: The concept of on-track versus off-track bone lesions in glenohumeral instability continues to evolve. Although much has been ascertained from an original biomechanical model, bony pathological changes, especially on 3-dimensional (3D) imaging, have not been fully evaluated.
PURPOSE: To compare the differences in on-track versus off-track lesions to characterize glenoid and humeral head bone defects using 3D modeling software.
STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study; Level of evidence, 3.
METHODS:A consecutive cohort of 75 patients with recurrent anterior instability, with evidence of Hill-Sachs lesions (HSLs) and
glenoid bone loss (GBL) and a mean age of 27.1 years (range, 18-48 years), were …
