Nondisclosure Of Trans Group Status Among Transgender Individuals, Alexander Williams Dec 2024

Nondisclosure Of Trans Group Status Among Transgender Individuals, Alexander Williams

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of the study was to investigate motivations for concealment of transgender group status beyond a qualitative scale. Additionally, the study aimed to identify the role one’s identity centrality, salience, and valence played in concealment behavior and attitudes. It was hypothesized that factors found in the extant literature (i.e., gender dysphoria, lack of connection, safety, stigma, and discrimination concerns) would apply presently. It was hypothesized that those individuals with low identity centrality, salience, and valence would be less likely to disclose their trans status. Results indicated that the previously named factors for concealment were present among participants with particularly …

In recent years, concussions have become a focal point for athletic competition and athletes beginning in grade school. The long-term implications of concussions are becoming more widely known and accepted; however, there are still areas of literature that are lacking. One of these areas is subconcussive impacts. Subconcussive impacts are defined as impacts that do not meet the threshold for diagnosed concussion but may still have clinical impact. While concussions and their effects on cognition have been examined heavily, these subconcussive impacts, and their effects, have been studied less so. The purpose of this study is to examine the possible …

UC Law Environmental Journal

As a result of human activity, the Earth is warming faster than at any point in recorded history. The effects of climate change are already devastating communities and crippling ecosystems globally. With deep cultural and traditional ties to the land, indigenous peoples are especially vulnerable to the direct consequences of the climate crisis despite contributing the least to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The 3 million Armenians living in the Republic of Armenia are no exception. Escalating climate change threatens their food security, degrades watersheds, and further endangers the people of this small, land-locked nation. Still, the government of Armenia has …

Human Capital Disclosure & Corporate Governance: The New Evidence, George S. Georgiev Dec 2024

Human Capital Disclosure & Corporate Governance: The New Evidence, George S. Georgiev

Articles

This Article explores the evolution of human capital disclosure-firm-supplied information about various workforce-related matters-as a factor in contemporary corporate governance. Regulatory and nonregulatory developments from recent years have upended longstanding practices and generated extensive new evidence. Most notably, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) adopted a human capital management ("HCM") disclosure mandate in 2020, which, though long overdue, was criticized from the outset for its modest scope and lax design. In the meantime, courts have taken a renewed interest in board of directors' oversight responsibilities in a number of areas, including HCM, while labor's power has unexpectedly increased in some …

Pipe Dream: Rethinking Co2 Pipeline Subsidies, Julia Weiss, Taylor Stonerock Dec 2024

Pipe Dream: Rethinking Co2 Pipeline Subsidies, Julia Weiss, Taylor Stonerock

UC Law Environmental Journal

Generous government subsidies are driving major expansions of carbon dioxide pipeline infrastructure throughout the United States. The fossil fuel industry stakeholders who pushed for these subsidies argue that more pipelines would support the transportation of more captured carbon dioxide from power plants and ethanol processing facilities to permanent subsurface storage sites. While such pipeline expansions could potentially reduce the greenhouse gas emissions associated with certain fossil fuel energy activities, they would also create unjustifiable new environmental and health threats. Major investments in new carbon dioxide pipeline infrastructure likewise promote continued reliance on fossil fuels for decades to come and thereby …

Reducing Congestive Heart Failure Readmissions Through Discharge Planning And Education, Coewonda Burse

Doctoral Projects

Chronic heart failure (CHF) is a widespread problem among individuals, which, at the same time, consumes a considerable share of global healthcare demand. CHF management poses a persistent issue mainly due to the short interval of hospital readmissions four weeks after discharge, which indicates deficiencies in care transitions and patient education. This doctoral project addresses this topic and evaluates whether implementing patient-specific education and discharge planning programs can decrease CHF-associated hospital readmissions. To investigate the phenomenon, the DNP student completed a retrospective chart review, found an intervention, implemented said intervention, and then evaluated the intervention's effectiveness versus interventions already in …

Investigation Of Healthcare Providers' Receptiveness To Aromatherapy As An Adjunctive Intervention For The Postoperative Nausea And Vomiting In Gynecological Procedures, Hannah May, Lauren Sherrill

Doctoral Projects

There is a knowledge deficit concerning healthcare providers' understanding of the use of aromatherapy as an intervention for postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) in clinical settings. Postoperative nausea and vomiting continues to exist despite using common pharmacological treatments to block receptors that stimulate the vomiting center (DiLustro, 2017). Postoperative nausea and vomiting leads to adverse effects that decrease patient satisfaction and prolong hospital stays. Healthcare providers need an adjunct therapy that minimizes risks and improves outcomes (Weibel et al., 2017). Through this project, provider understanding, and preferences were obtained and educational content delivered to potentially improve patient PONV outcomes. Using …
