Resourcefulness And Health Outcomes In Persons With Cardiovascular Disease And Their Care Partners, Elliane Irani, Nicole Leblanc, Jaclene A. Zauszniewski
Sigma Foundation for Nursing Research Grant Reports
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between resourcefulness and health outcomes (depressive symptoms and quality of life) in a dyadic context for persons with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and their care partners. Specifically, we (1) compared persons with CVD’s and care partners’ resourcefulness and health outcomes, (2) examined the relationship between persons with CVD and care partners’ resourcefulness and health outcomes at the actor and partner levels, and (3) explored how persons with CVD and their care partners appraise stressful situations and use coping strategies, including resourcefulness skills, to maintain their overall health.
Global Engagement For Students With Disabilities In Higher Education, Caitlin Blomquist, Ashley Bradley, Stephanie Noss
Global Engagement For Students With Disabilities In Higher Education, Caitlin Blomquist, Ashley Bradley, Stephanie Noss
MAGIS: Student Development Journal
This paper analyzes current literature and best practices in the field of education abroad for students with disabilities. Students with disabilities have traditionally been underrepresented in education abroad programs; given the many benefits of participation, colleges and universities have an obligation to promote global engagement for all students (National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange, 2011). This research provides an overview of disability law and policy and best practices for supporting education abroad for students with disabilities.

Students In Transition: An Exploration Of Best Practices, Nicholas Cubita, Katherine Gast, Maggie Heier, Laura Lynn Horst
MAGIS: Student Development Journal
This review explores the significance of transition within the lives of students attending college for the first time. Areas of focus include developing powerful partnerships and improving student success through the implementation of orientation programming, living-learning communities, and freshmen interest groups. An evaluation of the impact of collaboration amongst student affairs practitioners and academic faculty during student transition is provided, followed by an emphasis on the importance of fostering meaning-making during transitions. Each of these efforts is included and recommended as a good practice in student affairs.

Student Veteran Resources: A Community College Assessment, Karla Repman
MAGIS: Student Development Journal
The following is an abridgment of a research assessment conducted for Cascadia Community College (CCC) in the spring of 2012 as part of an independent study for the Master’s program in Student Development Administration at Seattle University. This project was developed to investigate ways for CCC to better serve its veteran student population. Independent research was conducted using journal articles, visits to local and similarly situated community colleges, and interviews with individuals in the field of veteran support services. The following assessment highlights what CCC does well to serve student veterans and provides suggestions for improving support for this population. …

Towards Redefining Strategic Enrollment Management: Response To Emerging Challenges Of The 21st Century, Kent Willis, Phong Yang
Towards Redefining Strategic Enrollment Management: Response To Emerging Challenges Of The 21st Century, Kent Willis, Phong Yang
The Journal of Advancing Education Practice
Understating the historical context and future prospects of Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) is a critical component to successful change management in higher education. For SEM to meet institutional goals underpinning the mission and vision of the institution, the scope of practice must be broadened. Redefining strategic enrollment management is necessary to focus on the development of collaborations that will serve as the foundation for leveraging the looming changes in industry and technology to achieve enrollment targets. This paper examines a specific case [E1] of implementing a new enrollment initiative, using a document analysis methodology to uncover emerging themes. These themes …
Concierge: How The Pandemic Lockdown Changed The Face Of Access Services, Stephen J. Walker
Concierge: How The Pandemic Lockdown Changed The Face Of Access Services, Stephen J. Walker
Urban Library Journal
This article addresses the changes made in Access Services in an urban college library after reopening during the Covid-19 pandemic. During the pandemic the library witnessed a downturn in patron visits and physical textbook usage as classes remained mostly online. Access Services moved from being a fast-paced, high demand service desk of print textbooks and laptops to a slower user assistance library services unit. Reopening the library to the college community and creating a safe study space for students required preparation. Various key resources such as study rooms, calculators, phone chargers, and headsets became a higher priority for students post-lockdown. …

Improving Diabetes Self-Management Skills Among Adults With Type 2 Diabetes Through Weekly Education, Carthia Joachim
Improving Diabetes Self-Management Skills Among Adults With Type 2 Diabetes Through Weekly Education, Carthia Joachim
Dissertations
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is one of the major health issues worldwide, which has led to many health complications, such as cardiovascular disease, nerve damage that leads to limb amputation, kidney damage, and even death (Sameer et al., 2020). Lack of self-care management is one of the reasons diabetes is becoming such an issue in society. Studies have shown that T2DM outcomes can be improved by implementing diabetes self-management education (DSME) (Hailu et al., 2019). The study evaluated the effectiveness of DSME intervention in adult patients with T2DM over 12 weeks in Orlando, Florida. Using a structured education program, the …

No. 32: Narratives Of Food Consumption And Food Insecurity: Zimbabwean Migrants In Windhoek, Namibia, Godfrey Tawodzera
Migration and Food Security (MiFOOD) Network
Decades of interlocking economic and political crisis have generated significant out-migration from Zimbabwe to other countries. Neighbouring countries with relative political stability and better livelihood opportunities, such as Namibia, have witnessed increased inflows of Zimbabweans. While there are studies documenting these movements, far less attention has been paid to the food security of Zimbabwean migrants in other countries. This paper investigates the changing dietary and food consumption patterns of recent Zimbabwean migrants in Windhoek, Namibia, and the impacts of these changes on household food security. The narratives of 35 Zimbabwean migrant households in Windhoek show that they face numerous food …
