Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the standard remedy to improve the health-related quality of life of people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). However, limited access to the viral reservoir has significantly hindered its effectiveness in fully eradicating HIV. Therefore, to improve HIV therapy, here we propose a C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5)-targeted theranostic lipid Based Nanoparticles (LBNPs) to noninvasively track and specifically deliver the antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) to the viral reservoir. A multi-modular radioactive nanoprobe was synthesized and co-encapsulated with rilpivirine (RPV, an ARV) into the LBNP to achieve a theranostic LBNP that can be tracked by positron emission …

Neurophysiological Indicators Of Neurodevelopmental Outcomes: Examining Discrimination And Habituation Among Children Born Preterm, Erin Stephanie Misato Matsuba Dec 2024

Neurophysiological Indicators Of Neurodevelopmental Outcomes: Examining Discrimination And Habituation Among Children Born Preterm, Erin Stephanie Misato Matsuba

Dissertations - ALL

Children born preterm are at an elevated likelihood for autism (ELA) and intellectual disabilities (ID). Event-related Potentials (ERPs), such as the P1 and the Mismatch Negativity (MMN), can be used to measure underlying neurophysiology, which may aid in the identification of these important neurodevelopmental and cognitive outcomes. Specifically, enhanced P1 and MMN discrimination, measured via the difference between two alternating sounds, is associated with autism while reduced neurophysiological habituation is associated with a lower IQ. The present study sought to examine whether early auditory discrimination and habituation could differentially predict autistic traits and cognitive abilities, respectively, as well as assess …

Who Are We? What Do We Do? How Do We Engage With Others? U.S.-Based Private Philanthropic Foundations And Their Stakeholder Relationships Through The Lens Of Identity, Wendy Leasure Wicker

Dissertations - ALL

ABSTRACT In the face of the ever-increasing complexities and the continuing failures that characterize efforts to achieve global development goals, the global development community has adopted a vision that links progress against the global development agenda (the Sustainable Development Goals) to an “all hands on deck” collective action approach requiring the alignment of the efforts of all stakeholders in the development ecosystem. Increasingly perceived as critical development stakeholders, private foundations are seen as essential contributors to the success of this vision. However, patterns of stakeholder engagement indicate that private foundations’ behaviors do not meet expectations, and there is a pervasive …

Power-Conscious Legal Work: Building A Roadmap For Rural Access To Justice Through Trust, Accountability, & Trauma-Informed Practices, Cayley Balser, Antonio M. Coronado

Alaska Law Review

The importance of trauma-informed practices has never been greater. In the United States, most of the population has experienced at least one traumatic event in their life. Experiencing a traumatic event may have long-lasting impacts on physical health, including disruption to all major system functioning. Mental health impacts may include behavior changes, memory challenges, inability to complete routine tasks, difficulty with interpersonal relationships, and other symptoms associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Extant literature examines the association between past trauma experiences and later interactions with the civil justice system, including litigant conceptualizations of legal system engagement as a traumatic event …

Seizing Welfare From The Bankrupt, Michael D. Sousa

University of Cincinnati Law Review

The earned income tax credit (EITC) is currently the largest means-tested antipoverty program in the United States that assists low-income working families surviving along the edges of poverty. A central component of the national welfare system, the EITC has lifted millions of families with children out of poverty and has produced myriad benefits for their everyday lives. But most of the poor and near-poor endure in the low-wage labor market and often lead turbulent financial lives, plagued by precarious employment along with deleterious material and psychological constraints in budgeting for daily expenses. For the segment of these families also burdened …

Sinaya: A Philippine Journal for Senior High School Teachers and Students

Even today, many rural and remote communities still do not have access to safe drinking water, which is a basic right of every human. To address this problem, the effectiveness of the Benguet pine tree (Pinus kesiya) xylem as a sustainable water filtration method for well water was investigated. The physical and chemical properties of the filtered and unfiltered deep well water were tested: the total dissolved solids (TDS) and the electrical conductivity using a 5-in-1 electronic water quality tester and the pH level using pH strips. On the other hand, the microbiological metrics, such as heterotrophic plate …
