Il-17a Inhibitors For The Treatment Of Psoriasis, Mangesh Bankhele
Il-17a Inhibitors For The Treatment Of Psoriasis, Mangesh Bankhele
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Psoriasis is a long-lasting skin condition caused by the immune system, which is characterized by red, scaly areas. It mainly affects the scalp, elbows, knees, and lower back. Psoriasis, which affects around 2-3% of the world's population, has a substantial influence on the quality of life of people who suffer from it. The disorder arises due to an atypical immunological response in which the immune system mistakenly attacks skin cells, causing fast cell reproduction, inflammation, and excessive growth. Psoriasis can be treated with topical therapies, systemic drugs, and biologics. Topical therapies, including corticosteroids, vitamin D analogs, and retinoids, are commonly …

SchröDinger’S Dissent: The Hybrid Authority Of A Dissenting Opinion, Christina M. Frohock
SchröDinger’S Dissent: The Hybrid Authority Of A Dissenting Opinion, Christina M. Frohock
Marquette Law Review
A dissenting opinion is the Schrödinger’s cat of authorities: both the law and not the law simultaneously. Courts and scholars often clarify that a dissenting opinion is not binding. Outside the universe of precedent, that authority defies easy description. Emerging from the pen of a judge wearing a black robe and acting in an official capacity, a dissenting opinion exhibits the form of the law. Yet, beneath that lofty sheen, a dissent exhibits the substance of commentary. A dissenting judge writes to undercut the law, providing a case law coda. This Article describes the traditional categories of authority, primary and …

In Silico Identifcation Of New Potential Inhibitors Of Quorum Sensing By Gram‑Positive Bacteria Through Specialized Molecular Docking, Amgad Albohy, Najla A. Obaid, Mariam Mojally, Mohammed Abou Rehab, Najd Ahmad Alkhudhir
Pharmacy
Quorum sensing is the process by which bacterial cells can communicate by producing substances to regulate viable processes such as gene expression, virulence, and bioflm formation. Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus faecalis have specifc enzymes (autoinducers) that control the quorum sensing system. Sortase A is a surface protein that regulates virulence and cell‒cell communication in Gram-positive bacteria. To interfere with this system and reduce virulence and cell‒cell communication, quorum sensing inhibitors are used, which are nonantibiotic substances. In this study, we aimed to use Food and Drug Administration-approved drugs (analgesics and antipsychotics) and investigate their activity using …

Changes In Flanker Task Performance Following High-Intensity Exercise In Endurance Athletes, Felix E. Cottet-Puinel
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
Executive function performance following acute aerobic exercise can be influenced by multiple variables. However, little is known about the lasting effects of these exercise-induced changes. This study aimed to determine the extent to which exercise intensity impacts executive function. 14 young endurance-trained adults (5 female, 9 male) performed an Eriksen flanker task before and immediately after running high-intensity until failure and isochronal moderate-intensity (~12 min). Pre- to post-exercise-induced changes in reaction time (ms), accuracy (%), and self-reported mental effort (1-9 rating) were analyzed by overall tasks and through tasks subsections. Results showed improvement in reaction time following high- and moderate-intensity …
Sustainable Materials For Environment − Multifunctional Material Made From Dead Leaves And Nanostructured Materials For Antibiotic Degradation, Siyuan Fang
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
As environmental pollution from industrial processes and human activities continues to rise, finding efficient approaches to recycle waste materials and degrade persistent contaminants becomes increasingly critical. Dead leaves, an abundant but underutilized biomass, present an opportunity for creating value-added materials if their biocomponents can be preserved and transformed. Simultaneously, antibiotics such as tetracycline are widely found in water bodies but pose serious ecological and health risks, necessitating effective degradation methods. This dissertation addresses these challenges by leveraging natural and nanostructured materials to develop multifunctional products and advanced photocatalytic processes.
Chapter 3 of this dissertation addresses the challenge of converting waste …

Gibberish (2022) By Young Vo, Peter Shea
Gibberish (2022) By Young Vo, Peter Shea
Picture Books
Everyone sometimes doesn’t understand what is going on, can’t find a way in, and everyone in that situation has impulses to retreat and to growl. Gibberish takes the point of view of the newcomer, the non-native speaker. One of the virtues of this presentation is that many people will say: yes, that’s what it was like – when I started school; the first day of my new job; when I first opened the chemistry book; when I landed in Vienna; as the first person in my family to go to college; when I started playing violin. And that common topic …

Cat Way (2024) By Sara Lundberg, Maughn Rollins Gregory
Picture Books
When a human gives her cat a turn to lead the way on their daily walk, they encounter the unexpected. The philosophical quandaries this story raises – When do routines become too confining? How do domestic habits prevent us from experiencing the natural world? Can humans and pets have genuinely inter-species relationships? – can be discussed and experimented with by people of most ages.

Southern Animals: Multispecies Encounters In Midcentury Southern Fiction, Kacee M. Mckinney
Southern Animals: Multispecies Encounters In Midcentury Southern Fiction, Kacee M. Mckinney
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation expands our understanding of how nonhuman animal figures, symbols, and encounters within southern literature have had ideologically profound impacts on our conceptions of humanity, southernness, and relationality. This dissertation examines prose fiction, including short stories, novellas, and novels, from four influential southern writers—Richard Wright, Carson McCullers, Tennessee Williams, and Flannery O’Connor—who were all actively engaged with representing, critiquing, and expanding American conceptions of the south, the nation, and the ‘human’ at midcentury. With an understanding of southern literature as a rich site for not only regional representation but also broader disruptions of national injustices and ideologies of domination …
Indirect And Direct Pathways Of Migratory Shorebird Effects On Nitrogen Cycling Within Temporarily Flooded Agricultural Fields, Victoria Blocker
Indirect And Direct Pathways Of Migratory Shorebird Effects On Nitrogen Cycling Within Temporarily Flooded Agricultural Fields, Victoria Blocker
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The global human population continues to grow exponentially, and agriculture will need to become more productive to meet growing food demands. Humans also need clean water and other services that ecosystems provide. This requires future agriculture production to reduce environmental and wildlife impacts through improved efficiencies and best management practices. Migratory shorebirds rely on wetlands throughout North and South America as stopover habitat for rest and refueling during migration. Temporarily flooded farmlands in the Mississippi Delta have proven to be beneficial locations for shorebirds during migrations along the central flyway. This conservation practice also enhances wetland properties that promote excess …

Evaluation Of Male And Female Performance And The Role Of Cerebellar Lesions And Local Aromatase Inhibition In Motor And Cognitive Tasks In The Zebra Finch (Taeniopygia Castanotis), Mathew Joseph Thibodeaux
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Most studies involving sex differences in songbirds are devoted to song learning and development. However, songbirds, such as zebra finches, are excellent models for studying general roles of steroids on behavior post-brain injury because they have high degrees of adult neuroplasticity and neurosteroidogenesis. The role of estradiol (E2) in recovery of function after neural insults in mammals has been well-studied for decades. Only recently has the role of E2 and aromatase in neuroprotection been examined in songbirds, and our lab is one of the few to study the role of E2 and aromatase in behavioral recovery and the only to …

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This study aimed to develop novel positron emission tomography (PET) tracers for C-X-C chemokine receptor type 4 (CXCR4) imaging. [68Ga]Ga-TD-01 and [18F]PICO-F were designed as PET tracers based on the molecular scaffolds of two potent CXCR4 antagonists, TIQ15 and PICO. TIQ15 was used to prepare a bifunctional (BFC) to facilitate 68Ga-labeling while structural modification of PICO was made to obtain a precursor, PICO-Br for 18F-labeling. The BFC, TD-01 was obtained in a moderately high yield (61%) via the conjugation of TIQ15 with a chelator derivative and successfully radiolabeled with 68Ga to yield [68Ga]Ga-TD-01, a PET tracer. For 18F-based tracer, the …

Exposure to hydrochloric acid (HCl) can provoke acute and chronic lung injury. Because of its extensive production for industrial use, frequent accidental exposures occur, making HCl one of the top five chemicals causing inhalation injuries. There are no Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved treatments for HCl exposure. Heat shock protein 90 (HSP90) inhibitors modulate transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling and the development of chemical-induced pulmonary fibrosis. However, little is known on the role of Heat Shock Protein 70 (HSP70) during injury and treatment with HSP90 inhibitors. We hypothesized that administration of geranylgeranyl-acetone (GGA), an HSP70 inducer, or gefitinib (GFT), an …
