Recognizing Power And Control When Planning Your Estate, Allan Vyhnalek
Cornhusker Economics
The older generations have spent their entire professional lives using the power and control that they accumulated through hard work and their long tenures. Having them retire and give up that control and power is difficult for some in those generations. Overall, it is challenging for them to give up control or power.

Retailers – especially this time of year – excel at causing problems.
“By this,” said Dr. Kelly Price-Rhea, “I mean they present the consumer with a problem the consumer didn’t know they had.”
Price-Rhea, an associate professor and director of the online Digital Marketing Program at East Tennessee State University, has spent her professional career researching consumer behavior, the ethics of digital marketing and more.
And with the shopping season upon us, it is useful to understand why so many of the holiday sales you encounter are so difficult to resist.

Using Jtag For External Scrubbing On The Amd Versal Acap, Michael L. Bjerregaard
Using Jtag For External Scrubbing On The Amd Versal Acap, Michael L. Bjerregaard
Theses and Dissertations
The Versal Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform (Versal ACAP) is a system-on-chip (SoC) developed by AMD Xilinx. To help protect the programmable logic from soft errors, the configuration needs to be constantly checked and repaired through a process called scrubbing. This thesis provides a methodology for scrubbing the configuration over JTAG. The scrubber uses two platform device image (PDI) files, one to read the configuration and one to send corrected frames. The methodology is characterized to determine the time it takes to completely scrub the configuration. The designed scrubber was able to scrub the VM1802 in 11.5 seconds, or 41.6 Mbits/second, …
Applying The Fast Fit Test Method For Quantitative Cnc To The Qualitative Fit Test Method Utilizing And Approved Reference Method And A Modified Reference Method, Mckenna Kaelber
Graduate Theses & Non-Theses
N95 respirators are the most utilized respirator in the healthcare sector, and when properly fitted, protect workers from biological and chemical exposures. A respirator fit test is a protocol used to assess the seal between the user’s face and the respirator. Quantitative and Qualitative methods are both approved and used for respirator fit testing. Quantitative Condensation Nuclei Counting (CNC) uses instrumentation to measure the particles on the inside and outside of the respirator and calculates a fit factor, indicating how well the respirator fits. Qualitative fit testing (QLFT) relies on the individual’s ability to detect a challenge agent while wearing …

Inscribing Violence: Quantifying The Impact Of World Heritage Site Inscription On Direct And Structural Violence., Anne Chance
Doctor of International Conflict Management Dissertations
The World Heritage Program and nomination process have undergone considerable criticism regarding their impact on host nations. These critics have often described violence as an unintended side-effect of heritage sites, but this research has lacked a systematic analysis of types of violence associated with the inscription of sites. The background to this study explores the application of Galtung’s Triangle of Violence, which considers the symbiotic dynamics of cultural violence, structural violence, and direct violence. In so doing, I constructed the Measures of Structural Violence matrix by which to examine direct and structural violence in states that host heritage sites.

Gnsi Decision Brief: Strategic Competition In The Arctic: Sooner Or Later?, Tad Schnaufer
GNSI Decision Briefs
The Arctic has a reputation for being dark, cold, and inhospitable but melting sea ice has made natural resources more accessible and opened shipping lanes, drawing the attention of the great powers. In 1996, to deal with competing interests the eight Arctic nations (Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and the United States) signed the Ottawa Treaty creating the Arctic Council. This council is an intergovernmental forum promoting cooperation in the region and involves 13 non-Arctic nations including China, France, India, Japan, and Poland. Most of the Arctic nations are U.S. Allies. Once Sweden joins NATO, Russia will be …

Sle1 (Aaa) And Alpha Hemolysin (Hla) Staphylococcus Aureus Antigens As A Potential Vaccine For Cows, Roz Al Janabi, Madeline Clark, Juliette Tinker
VIP 2023
Knowledge of Staphylococcus aureus is essential to understanding how this pathogen causes different types of infections in humans. It can cause skin superficial infections and gastroenteritis. It can also cause infections in the joints and wounds, therefore causing humans to be severely ill by causing sepsis or infection in the blood. It is also very commonly antibiotic-resistant. In the lab, we are working with this priority pathogen because of antibiotic resistance. Cows can get S. aureus from humans, and it causes mastitis. This affects the dairy industry which is very important in the United States, but also specifically important in …

VIP 2023
- The wine industry has created around 70 wineries in Idaho and has had a $209.6 million impact on its economy.
- The cool climate has made white wines its top-produced wine, however, Idaho has recently been focusing on increasing production of red wines.
- Sangiovese grapes are a light red color, so producers are interested in increasing the strength of the color pigment.
- Red wine is produced through the maceration of grapes.
- Maceration is the process where grapes soak in their juice after being crushed to extract color and flavor from their skins.
- The maceration time is around 7 days, and producers …

A Statistical Analysis Investigating The Phenomenon Known As "Kitten Season" And Its Correlation To Climate, Bentley Arnold
VIP 2023
Open intake animal shelters that take in stray and feral cats have long had to cope with a phenomenon known as “Kitten Season”, a period of time when there is a large uptick of intakes of young kittens aged 0-6 months old. This typically occurs from April to October in the United States. While evidence in some other species suggests that conceptions could be related to temperature, little research has examined how conception may be related to climate conditions in cats.
To determine whether cat conception is related to climate, I examine data from January 2012 and December 2020 on …

Synthesis And Characterization Of Colorimetric And Flurometric Chemosensor For Trivalent Metal Ions, Fazila Haque
Honors Program Theses and Research Projects
There are many biological and environmental uses for trivalent metals (like Fe3+, Al3+, and Cr3+) within our daily lives. Whether these trivalent metals are found in deficiency or excess can cause issues within our environment (global warming) or our bodies (can cause problems with our digestive, cardiovascular, and immune systems). Being able to detect them and understanding their importance becomes crucial in our understanding of the world that surrounds us.
/="/">One of the ways we can detect these trivalent metals is through the use of chemosensors. Chemosensors are used to sense analyte (trivalent metal) to produce a signal (fluorescence …
The Unexpected Significance Of Myosin A In Organization Of M-Line Protein Unc-89/Obscurin Within Striated Muscle Cells Of Caenorhabditis Elegans, Kar Men Lee
Honors Theses
This research investigates the unexpected significance of Myosin A in the organization of M-line protein UNC-89/obscurin within striated muscle cells of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans). The study employs immunofluorescence techniques to examine the spatial and temporal dynamics of UNC-89/obscurin and Myosin A during embryonic development. The sarcomere, a fundamental unit in muscle cells, is governed by the 'sliding filament model,' where the M-line serves as a crucial anchor for Myosin A. This research seeks to understand the relationship between muscle function in humans and C. elegans, utilizing the latter's simple anatomy and genetic tractability. The …

Comparing Ergonomic Hazard Control Methods For Rock Drilling, Mickenzie Alt
Graduate Theses & Non-Theses
This study compares data from a new rock drill (Epiroc HRD-100) to a previous study's data from a jackleg drill. The HRD-100 is a handheld hydraulic drill. It employs vibration dampening by design and a soft-start function, to reduce vibration exposures and a hydraulic feed leg that may aid in the reduction of required exertion on the part of the operator, as compared to that ofa jackleg drill. A 2007 study from South Africa found that a hydraulic drill produced a higher degree of vibration than a pneumatic drill (Phillips et al., 2007). Epiroc's product brochure lists HRD acceleration at …

Moral Injury, Identity Dissonance, And Reintegration: A Compendium Of Reintegration And Survey Of United States Military Veterans, Thomas Hodges
Doctor of International Conflict Management Dissertations
How do military moral injuries affect reintegration? All service members leave the military eventually, but reintegration can be challenging, bringing changes in career, family life, and friendships, potentially prompting a loss of purpose, drive, and connection. Service members may also struggle with a crisis of identity upon separating from the military, feeling their military identity is incompatible with civilian life. While these difficulties are common for service members in reintegration, they may be worsened by moral injury, the adverse biological, social, psychological, and spiritual effects of experiencing an event that deeply offends a person’s sense of right and wrong. People …

Stronger Regulations On Air Pollution Could Reduce Cardiovascular Disease Mortality Rates, Yue Sun
Center for Policy Research
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States, but there are large disparities in CVD death rates across the country. Air pollution also plays an important role in shaping geographic disparities in CVD mortality, as air pollutants can become absorbed in human circulation systems, and cause inflammation, damage nervous systems, and trigger poor CVD outcomes. This brief reports the results of a study that used data on air pollution and from death certificates to estimate the association between fine particulate matter and cardiovascular disease mortality rates in the U.S. in 2016-2018. Results show that cutting …
