A Framework For Implementing Data Integrity Program Enabling Mid-Size Financial Institutions To Meet United States Federal Reserve Data Quality Requirements For Model Risk Management, Divya Yadav

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this mixed-methods, action research study was to help financial institutions build and implement controls for data quality and integrity for model data input, allowing financial institution models to offer quality output or reports for quality business decisions by upper management. This mixed-methods study addressed three research questions. The quantitative question that was addressed was: To what extent does implementing a Data Integrity Program (DIP) influence the quality and integrity of model data input at different stages of Model Risk Management (MRM) in mid-size financial institutions? The qualitative portion of the study addressed two research questions which included: …

Reclaiming Indigenous History: Pyroepistomology And Social Justice, Paulette Steeves Dec 2023

Reclaiming Indigenous History: Pyroepistomology And Social Justice, Paulette Steeves

LAII Events

The Indigenous past of the Americas has been fabricated to fit into neoliberal time frames of imagined “New Worlds". The past remains a tool of dis-empowerment created by American archaeologists to keep Indigenous civilizations as “infantile” on a global scale. In the Americas, the deep Indigenous past prior to 12,000 years before the present has been aggressively denied for over a century. Anthropologists’ denial of the deep Indigenous past of the Americas, has cleaved Indigenous people’s links to their homeland and created them as recent immigrants to the Americas, on a global scale of human history. Yet, Indigenous oral traditions …

Brain-Inspired Spatio-Temporal Learning With Application To Robotics, Thiago André Ferreira Medeiros Dec 2023

Brain-Inspired Spatio-Temporal Learning With Application To Robotics, Thiago André Ferreira Medeiros

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The human brain still has many mysteries and one of them is how it encodes information. The following study intends to unravel at least one such mechanism. For this it will be demonstrated how a set of specialized neurons may use spatial and temporal information to encode information. These neurons, called Place Cells, become active when the animal enters a place in the environment, allowing it to build a cognitive map of the environment. In a recent paper by Scleidorovich et al. in 2022, it was demonstrated that it was possible to differentiate between two sequences of activations of a …

Aequitas: Seeking Equilibrium In Title Ix, Raymond Trent Cromartie Dec 2023

Aequitas: Seeking Equilibrium In Title Ix, Raymond Trent Cromartie

University of Dayton Law Review

In 2011, the Obama Administration introduced the Dear Colleague Letter (“DCL” or “Letter”), which drastically reshaped the nature and scope of Title IX and redefined how sex-based discrimination is viewed and addressed on college campuses around the country. While the overall intent of the Letter was to address historical mishandlings of sexual misconduct on the part of victims, including sexual assault in higher education, many commentators have expressed the concern that the guidelines aggressively pursued this end without considering several sweeping impacts. Where Title IX used to be a means for providing equal access to education through government oversight, through …

How Can They Be Silenced? Why Ohio Must Amend Its Civil Statute Of Limitations For Child Sexual Abuse Claims, Mackenzie F. Reiber Dec 2023

How Can They Be Silenced? Why Ohio Must Amend Its Civil Statute Of Limitations For Child Sexual Abuse Claims, Mackenzie F. Reiber

University of Dayton Law Review

Ohio should abolish the civil statute of limitations for child sexual abuse (CSA) claims because survivors of CSA generally recover memories and come forward with allegations well past the limitations period; courts in states that have eliminated the civil statute of limitations for CSA claims do not become overwhelmed by hearing these claims several years past the date of the abuse; and the perpetrator’s constitutional rights are not violated by abolishing the statute of limitations.

ETSU News

ETSU is committed to providing students with hands-on learning opportunities to make a real-world impact.

Earlier this week, East Tennessee State University achieved a significant milestone. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) voted to reaffirm our university’s accreditation with no findings or recommendations. This action signifies that one of the most stringent accrediting bodies in the nation not only gave ETSU its continued endorsement but did so without listing a single concern or recommendation for improvement. In short, it was a glowing review.

ETSU must undergo the reaffirmation process every ten years to ensure that …

The Art And Mystery Of Pragmatic History, David Hardin Dec 2023

The Art And Mystery Of Pragmatic History, David Hardin

History Theses

This thesis considers how we make meaning in our individual lives and in practice as historians. From an initializing question —Why do people believe things that have either been proven false or shown improbable?— born out of historical discourse in the liminal space between mythology and history, this thesis embarks on a inquiry into meaning that is both deeply philosophical and practical. The work develops a historical method that falls within the tradition of Pragmatism, and then turns this method toward two case studies (Pedro Huízar and Señora Candelaria) from San Antonio, Texas. The aim is to explore two myths …

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy For Complex Oral Wounds, Mykaihla Sternick, James Gates, Allen Champion, Andrew Yampolsky Dec 2023

Negative Pressure Wound Therapy For Complex Oral Wounds, Mykaihla Sternick, James Gates, Allen Champion, Andrew Yampolsky

Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Faculty Papers

Negative pressure wound therapy provides a nonsurgical treatment option for many types of complex wounds. This therapy utilizes the vacuum-assisted closure device, which decreases air pressure, removes fluid that accumulates within the wound, and aids to facilitate changes that promote healing. Despite the increased use of negative pressure wound therapy in the head and neck region, there is substantially less data available on the management of transoral vacuum-assisted wound closure. Herein, we present a case of a novel approach for the creation and use of a transoral wound vac for a patient with a refractory orocutaneous wound in the setting …

Comparative Evaluation Of Propulsive Power Transmission Technologies For High-Speed Vertical Takeoff And Landing (Hsvtol) Cargo Aircraft, Xinyu Yang

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

Designing High-Speed Vertical Takeoff and Landing (HSVTOL) cargo aircraft capable of both low downwash velocity hovering and high subsonic speed cruising presents a significant engineering challenge. This challenge, stemming from conflicting design requirements, has been substantially influenced by recent technological advancements, which have offered greater flexibility in rotor placement. Consequently, this has led to the emergence of innovative mission-specific designs that hold the potential to outperform traditional concepts. The central objective of this study is to evaluate the benefits of modern technologies for VTOL cargo aircraft and assess their performance relative to baseline VTOL aircraft. The results of this comparative …

Development Of A Constellation Simulator For A 5g/Iot Mission Planning System, Franco Criscola

Doctoral Dissertations and Master's Theses

The advancement of 5G and Internet-of-Things technologies has presented new challenges for telecommunications providers. One of the challenges is integrating these technologies with present networks. A solution has been found in low-Earth orbit satellite constellations. On one hand, this method increases coverage and reduces costs, but on the other it raises new problems like how to efficiently manage large constellations of spacecraft. This thesis introduces the Constellation Management System, developed in collaboration with i2Cat foundation. This novel tool is composed of two modules: the simulator and the scheduler. The former propagates satellite motion and computes visibility events to various targets …

What Makes A Radical?: An Exploration Of Sexism, Social Dominance Orientation, And Political Violence., Cassandra Atkinson Dec 2023

What Makes A Radical?: An Exploration Of Sexism, Social Dominance Orientation, And Political Violence., Cassandra Atkinson

Departmental Honors & Graduate Capstone Projects

How do sexist attitudes predict one’s likelihood of endorsing political violence? While past research identifies a link between hostile sexism and political violence, benevolent sexism has been overlooked. This article explores social dominance orientation (SDO) as a motivator to explain why individuals who hold attitudes of hostile or benevolent sexism are more likely to endorse political violence. Using survey data collected by the American National Election Studies, this article established a positive relationship between both hostile and benevolent sexism and an individual’s willingness to endorse state violence. Results also show a weak mediated relationship between SDO, hostile sexism, and endorsement …

Leadership Style And Nursing Retention, Brenae J. Reason

MSN Capstone Projects

Nursing is the heart of healthcare, for decades we have been the drivers of innovation and have contributed to so many advancements in the profession. Even with nursing being a sincere passion amongst many nurses, there is an alarming trend of nurses who are faced with burnout (Brusie, C., n.d.). It has been reported that 1 in 5 nurses left their position in one particular health system (Andreyeva et al., 2023). It is also noted that turnover can be costly for organizations (Zuniga et al., 2019). While there are a multitude of reasons nurses could be leaving their companies, one …

Introduction: It is becoming clearer that the microbiota helps drive responses to vaccines; however, little is known about the underlying mechanism. In this study, we aimed to identify microbial features that are associated with vaccine immunogenicity in infant rhesus macaques. Methods: We analyzed 16S rRNA gene sequencing data of 215 fecal samples collected at multiple timepoints from 64 nursery-reared infant macaques that received various HIV vaccine regimens. PERMANOVA tests were performed to determine factors affecting composition of the gut microbiota throughout the first eight months of life in these monkeys. We used DESeq2 to identify differentially abundant bacterial taxa, PICRUSt2 …

The Effect Of Intangible Resources On Selling, General, And Administrative Cost Behavior Of Young And Established Firms, Menghistu M. Sallehu, Ingyu Chiou, Yifan Liu Dec 2023

The Effect Of Intangible Resources On Selling, General, And Administrative Cost Behavior Of Young And Established Firms, Menghistu M. Sallehu, Ingyu Chiou, Yifan Liu

The North American Accounting Studies

In this paper we investigate the effect of intangible resources on the relationship between activities and SG&A costs, and examine this effect on young and established firms. Prior research shows that costs are sticky in that costs decrease to a lesser extent following decrease in activities than they do increase following increase in activities of the same magnitude. We hypothesize that firms relying on intangible resources will exhibit stronger sticky cost behavior because (i) intangible resources are strategic resources and (ii) they possess unique properties that constrain managers’ ability to selectively cut resources. Using a large sample of US firms, …
