The uses of femininity throughout the horror genre have been widely studied in order to identify the role of the woman within these works. This thesis works to apply Carol Clover’s trope of the Final Girl to contemporary children’s horror texts in order to unveil the underlying schematics that shape adolescent characters. Using Neill Gaiman’s Coraline, Donna Barba Higuera’s The Last Cuentista, and Daniel Handler’s A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning, this thesis aims to position contemporary children’s protagonists as the Final Girl, which in turn attempts to explain the uses and misuses of common horror motifs such …

Extracurricular activities have been the battleground for a striking number of Supreme Court cases set at public schools, from cases involving speech to religion to drug testing. Indeed, the two most recent Supreme Court cases involving constitutional rights at public schools--Kennedy v. Bremerton School District (2022) and Mahanoy Area School District v. B.L. (2021)--both arose in the extracurricular context of school sports. Even so, the Supreme Court has never fully clarified the status of extracurricular activities themselves. This qualitative study examines how academic librarians understand, conceptualize, and describe their teacher identity. The role of the academic librarian has greatly changed due to the advent of information technology. Traditionally, they were generalists, who were responsible for selecting and maintaining library collections. Shoulder sores predominantly arise in breeding sows and often result in untimely culling. Reported prevalence rates vary significantly, spanning between 5% and 50% depending upon the type of crate flooring inside a farm, the animal’s body condition, or an existing injury that causes lameness. These lesions represent not only a welfare concern but also have an economic impact due to the labor needed for treatment and medication. Throughout Filipino television and film, it is difficult to ignore the almost always apparent bakla. The bakla, often portrayed as either an effeminate gay man or a trans woman, largely appears as a side character in many Filipino films. Many depictions of this queer figure in the past have cast them as merely comedic relief or perverted figures. However, within the past two decades of the 21st century, many Filipino films have been produced with a central bakla character. The Sacral Museum: An Analysis And Application Of Design Within Museum Architecture, Derek Shultz

This research focuses on the similarities between museum architecture and architecture found in religious, spiritual, and sacred structures around the world. Personal experience and academic research will be used to help convey and understand the effects of architecture on its occupants. This thesis examines how architectural design can facilitate a profound internal journey through learning, contemplation, and connection. Through analysis of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, it is shown that traditional and contemporary architectural elements can achieve these effects by creating a sacred, ritualistic experience, thereby enriching the cultural, educational, and emotional value of the museum visit.

Sentencing reductions, executive pardons, prison release programs, and progressive prosecutors have something in common. In word choice and design, they suggest tempering the violence of criminal law in a limited number of cases. The prisoner may be released early based on a record of good behavior. The President may grant clemency to those sentenced in an earlier era to decades in prison for a drug crime. The prosecutor may recommend drug court rather than a jail sentence to a defendant addicted to illegal substances. Using Readers' Theater To Increase Fluency For Second Grade Students, Serena Coyle

This study focuses the effect of reader’s theater on fluency for second-grade students. Fluency was measured through oral reading fluency and the multidimensional fluency scale. Students were selected from the researcher’s second-grade classroom. The study was done in a small group setting. Results show that students significantly improved oral reading fluency and prosody in the six-week study. Students grew an average of 24 words per minute in oral reading fluency.

Purpose: Medical humanities education is cultivating cultural competence for medical students to deliver healthcare to patients with diverse backgrounds in the future. However, it lacks a radical approach to patient empowerment in a multicultural context. This study was conducted to create and validate a Taiwan Multicultural Competence Scale (TMCC) to evaluate the impact of multicultural education on medical students. Methods: The research comprised three stages: first, creating a 15-question TMCC scale with four aspects; second, refining the scale based on expert feedback, introducing options like "suitable" and "delete"; and third, implementing a pre-test scale validated by experts specializing in multiculturalism …

The goal of this research was to answer the question: Q1 In what ways do Brain Dance type movements impact problem-solving skills for exceptional learners? The research was completed within the public education setting with a group of volunteer participants including one cooperating teacher and six student participants identified as exceptional learners. The researcher focused on problem-solving skills including identifying a problem, showing work, implementing a solution, and identifying a solution. Research instruments were created based on these skills including a pretest, posttest, and teacher rubric. Student participants completed the pretest prior to being introduced to movement exercises. The purpose of this thesis study was to find if emotional intelligence could be increased through participation in dance classes, and if that increase of emotional intelligence could mitigate anxiety in teens today. The researcher held four dance classes with a total of five 15–16- year-old volunteer participants, all with dance experience. Two research instruments were used and data were analyzed quantitatively. This project uses qualitative research to create an original 78-card tarot deck. Its focus is to create a tarot deck informed by the rich history and symbolism of tarot while utilizing original art and unique experiences to create a one-of-a-kind deck. The deck’s artwork showcases flora, fauna, and manufactured objects of the Southeastern United States, referencing traditional tarot archetypes to select each card’s imagery. The deck’s guidebook introduces readers to some of the history of tarot and several historical and contemporary decks that inspired the Enchanted South deck.
