The How And Why Of Visual Practice At Un Climate Negotiations, Stéphanie Heckman
New England Journal of Public Policy
In this article Stéphanie Heckman examines the process and outcomes of her graphic recording work and other forms of visual practice in the context of UN climate negotiations, reflecting on three years of collaboration with the UN Climate Change Secretariat, particularly during the eighteen-month Global Stocktake process. After a review of the history and science behind visual storytelling, she analyses one of the graphic recordings made for the third meeting of the Technical Dialogue of the Global Stocktake through the lens of Kelvy Bird’s ‘Levels of Scribing’ model. Drawing on comments from delegates at COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt and …

Synergising Bim And Real-Time Data For Improved Efficiency: An Irish Case Study, Ahmed Hassan, Ankur Mitra, Alan Hore, Mark Mulville
Conference Papers
The evolution of 3D visualisation and the Internet of Things (IoT) presents a substantial opportunity for integrating real-time data with Building Information Models (BIM) to improve its functionality and construction workflow efficiency. Integrating real-time data with BIM can enhance the digital representation of construction buildings’ physical and functional characteristics and provide recordable status of on-site operations. Nevertheless, the integration between Visualisation and IoT technologies with BIM remains in its preliminary stages and faces a myriad of technical and operational challenges. Furthermore, developing advanced solutions to facilitate this complex integration requires a considerable understanding of the viability and feasibility of merging …
Using Graphic Design To Develop And Promote A Character Development Program, Mia Mummau
Using Graphic Design To Develop And Promote A Character Development Program, Mia Mummau
Senior Honors Theses
There are many out-of-school time (OST) programs such as sports, art, and community clubs. The majority of these programs have been strategically designed to assist with child development. Non-profit organizations, such as OST programs, struggle to gain funding and parental support due to the inability to communicate their message effectively. Branding is key for the programs to capture the attention of children and parents to better communicate core values and positive intentions. This project will assist a football team's character-building program in its communication of the vision, scope, and sequence. This will help gain parent buy-in and donation of resources.

An Intersection Of Science & Art: Vitrification Approaches And Open-Fabricated Tools For The Biomedical Model Sea Hare, Aplysia Californica, Allyssa M. Oune
LSU Master's Theses
The California sea hare (Aplysia californica) is an important biomedical model for molecular neurobiology, electrophysiology, learning, and memory due to their well-mapped and large neurons and well-characterized learning capabilities. The National Resource for Aplysia (NRA, University of Miami) maintains large stocks of live animals and relies on regular shipments of wild-caught individuals to maintain genetic diversity. This is labor and cost-intensive, and environmental changes could alter the availability of wild animals increasing the need to preserve this genetic resource. One solution is vitrification, ultra-fast cooling which produces an amorphous glass that minimizes damage to cells. Aplysia californica presents …

A Transformer Fault Diagnosis Method Based On Multiscale 1dcnn, Huidong Wang, Haiyan Yao, Qiang Guo, Xiaoling Yu, Xufeng Zhang, Longkun Cong
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
In order to improve the diagnostic accuracy of transformer fault, a transformer fault diagnosis method based on the multi‑scale convolutional neural network model is proposed. Firstly, two multi‑scale convolutional modules are designed on the basis of the 1DCNN structure, and the overall structure of the transformer fault identification model is constructed. Secondly, to handle the problem of less sample features, the feature expansion method based on the ratio method is adopted to enhance the sample features from 5 dimensions to 25 dimensions. To solve the small sample size of faults and uneven distribution of sample numbers between faults, a sample …

International Tourists' Perceptions Towards Destination Brand Image: A Case Study Of Socotra Island, Yemen, Ahmed Abdullah Omer, Madhuri Sawant, Rajesh Ragde
Journal of Tourism Insights
The influence of brand image on consumer behavior is widely recognized. It affects how tourists make pre-purchase decisions, making destinations with more substantial images more likely to be chosen. Additionally, the destination needs a strong brand image to maintain its position in the competitive business world. Product differentiation is crucial because Socotra Island, the research area, has a unique landscape, botanical, marine, and bird biodiversity, and cultural and heritage features and offers tremendously attractive destinations. Purposive random sampling was used to gather data from 410 international tourists at the sample locations for this study, which intends to examine how tourists …

The Psychological Motivations Of Attendees To Engage And Share Their Event Experiences, Denise Matoushek
The Psychological Motivations Of Attendees To Engage And Share Their Event Experiences, Denise Matoushek
Theses
Social media usage, content creation and consumption has increased steadily throughout the years. This facet has impacted the event industry and their audiences’ expectations of immersive and high-end digital opportunities with the goal of memory capturing and user generated content. In addition to providing digital event opportunities, meeting audiences on their psychological level when in attendance at events heightens the likelihood of revisits, word-of-mouth, and social media sharing. The two main psychological aspects to study are that of belonging and internal motivation. In the event field, belonging is the feeling or association to a community of peers and internal motivation …

Cfa-Treated Mice Induce Hyperalgesia In Healthy Mice Via An Olfactory Mechanism, Yangmiao Zhang, Wentai Luo, Maryt M. Heinricher, Andrey E. Ryabinin
Chemistry Faculty Publications and Presentations
Background
Social interactions with subjects experiencing pain can increase nociceptive sensitivity in observers, even without direct physical contact. In previous experiments, extended indirect exposure to soiled bedding from mice with alcohol withdrawal-related hyperalgesia enhanced nociception in their conspecifics. This finding suggested that olfactory cues could be sufficient for nociceptive hypersensitivity in otherwise untreated animals (also known as “bystanders”).
Aim
The current study addressed this possibility using an inflammation-based hyperalgesia model and long- and short-term exposure paradigms in C57BL/6J mice.
Materials & Method
Adult male and female mice received intraplantar injection of complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA) and were used as stimulus …

Stimulating Decision-Making Through Design And Advertising, Dardan Luta
UBT International Conference
The improvement of technology has made it possible for the masses to have easy access to graphic software, therefore even the products/advertisements of a category become very similar to each other and the design becomes a decisive element that makes this difference. To differentiate between products, each brand tries to create its own visual language and aims to give a message to the consumer about its identity.
Since advertising is such an important aspect of a brand, can consumer perceptions be stimulated or manipulated through graphic design? We will focus in the advertisements that companies in Kosovo have used for …
