Diabetes impacts around 422 million individuals globally, resulting in 1.5 million reported annual deaths. Type 2 diabetes affects approximately 35.4% of the population in the United States, with 1.4 million new cases identified each year. When not managed properly, diabetes can spiral into a long list of complications. Among the various challenges in diabetes management, foot complications stand out as significant and often avoidable. Without proper attention, these complications can lead to severe health issues. To address this concern, this project focuses on resolving standard foot inspection practices within an assisted living facility in central Mississippi. The goal is to …
Improving Outcomes For Women Following Gynecological Surgery Through Implementation Of Multimodal Analgesia As Part Of An Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (Eras) Protocol, Shannan M. Case
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
The opioid epidemic in the United States has been a continuous public health crisis, as opioid-associated overdose has become one of the leading causes of death. The risk of opioid misuse increases following exposure to opioids perioperatively. As a result, anesthesia providers are facing a significant shift in practice to decrease opioid administration while adequately managing perioperative pain. While opioids have historically been the mainstream for perioperative pain management, multimodal analgesic (MMA) regimens as part of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programs are being utilized as alternative methods. With these programs, opioids are reduced by administering non-opioids with neuraxial and …

Conflict Resolution In Healthcare: The Vital Role Of Developing Conflict Management Skills Among Nurse Leaders, Kris Maddalena
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Nurse leaders at the unit level play a vital and indispensable role in acute care settings. Their influence extends beyond administrative tasks, as they significantly impact crucial factors such as nurse retention rates, patient outcomes, and the overall work environment of the unit-level teams. Effective unit-level leadership has been consistently associated with improved outcomes, increased job satisfaction, and decreased turnover among nurses (Aiken et al., 2011). This DNP project is focused on enhancing conflict management skills among unit-level nurse leaders in an acute care setting. The project followed a quality improvement sequence, which included obtaining a needs assessment for unit-level …

Sustaining The Growth Curve: How Christian Schools Can Sustain The Post-Covid Growth Surge, Jared B. Johnston
International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal
Prior to the 2019-2020 school year, the Christian school movement as a whole was in decline. However, the COVID-19 pandemic brought a surge in enrollment growth to Christian schools across the country. While this is encouraging news, Christian school leaders must be cautious and work to sustain the current growth surge. To maintain the growth surge, Christian school leaders can implement financial and non-financial factors of sustainability. Financial factors of sustainability include budgeting effectively, developing strategic plans, forecasting economic futures, and adhering to sound financial practices. Non-financial factors include a vibrant biblical worldview and Christian culture, effective leadership, a conducive …

Using Improvement Science To Address Early Elementary Teacher Efficacy And Competency When Addressing Trauma-Induced Behavior, Laura Hayes
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
As more research sheds light on the effects of trauma on school-age children, educators must learn to apply the research and make adaptations in the classroom and school settings. While the body of literature has grown, limitations still exist in research focused on specific strategies and applications for classroom teachers. Many teachers feel ill-equipped and exhibit low self-efficacy when working with students affected by trauma. As a result, many students receive disciplinary action rather than constructive practices that promote healing. Some teachers feel that more targeted and specific training and resources would improve efficacy, confidence, and effectiveness. In this study, …

Possible Futures For Colonial Collecting Institutions: A Study Of Historical Societies In The United States, Jen Hoyer
Publications and Research
This article explores how collecting institutions with deeply colonial roots can move into a decolonial future existence, through an in-depth study of historical societies in the United States. Examining their historic roots in colonialism of the United States and the persistence of these colonial identities in spite of a variety of evolutionary trends over the 20th century, this article asks: what decolonial possibilities exist for their future? If institutional shifts have not undone the colonial identities of some collecting institutions, what can? Turning to Sarah Ahmed’s theory on queer use and Saidiya Hartman’s method of critical fabulation, I suggest practical …

Measuring Multicultural Competence In Counseling, Martha Mae Golubski
Measuring Multicultural Competence In Counseling, Martha Mae Golubski
Dissertations
Pedersen (1999) described multicultural counseling as the “fourth force” in psychology. The description is used to imply that multiculturalism is the next theory to understand human behavior, complementary to the other three forces: psychodynamic, behavioral, and humanistic explanations. Despite the attention being given to multiculturalism, professional organizations, training institutions, and service providers are still trying to understand what it means to have competency in multicultural counseling. Researchers have made decades of efforts to define and measure multicultural counseling competence; yet, there is still limited data about how multicultural training efforts influence these competencies and how counselor multicultural competency affects clients’ …

Fostering Resilience In Nurse Practitioner Practice: Development And Validation Of A Guide, Robyn L. Heiser
Doctoral Scholarly Projects & Capstones
Nurse practitioners (NPs) are a significant part of the U.S. healthcare system providing high quality, safe, consistent care often in low access and rural settings. Nurse practitioners are increasing in demand due to a growing physician shortage and a changing patient demographic of aging patients and patients with increasing complex, chronic illnesses. Nurse practitioners experience chronic work stress from layered demands of their work and role. This challenges their resilience and, if not appropriately managed, could lead to negative consequences for patient outcomes, the well-being of the NP, and overall healthcare system. Applying interventions that could effectively and efficiently foster …

This study contributes to the small body of literature regarding teacher leadership to foster dialogue and potentially provide opportunities for teachers to take on leadership roles. Recently, the expectations for schools have increased to the extent that leaders are now expected to ensure all students are learning at prominent levels. Today’s public-school principals may benefit from the support of teacher leaders. Results of …
A Mixed Methods Design Exploring Factors And Experiences Of Ed.D. Graduates And Time To Degree, Brian Willess
A Mixed Methods Design Exploring Factors And Experiences Of Ed.D. Graduates And Time To Degree, Brian Willess
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
In higher education, the extended time-to-degree of doctoral students creates a gap between those who graduate on time and those who do not. This delay is due to program structures, relationships, and dissertation writing. Academic success requires timely program completion and increases career opportunities for graduates. A long time to degree increases the risk of non-completion, especially during dissertations. Attrition, persistence, and dropping out have been studied, but why students graduate on time needs more examination. Most studies focus on Ph.D. students and programs with different requirements and time-to-degree, so new research must include Ed.D. students and examine doctoral graduates' …

A 21 Year Meta Analysis Of The Effectiveness Of Trauma-Sensitive Schools Initiatives, Megan Ann Blanton
Graduate Theses and Dissertations (2019 - present)
Childhood exposure to adversity is prevalent, with most individuals in the United States having experienced at least one adverse event in childhood (Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative, 2019; Merrick et al., 2018). Low dosages of childhood adversity experienced within the context of a safe and caring home environment can promote the development of healthy coping skills that prepare children for future adversity. However, childhood adversity that is intense, chronic, or complex can result in a toxic stress response that leads to the development of mental illness, physical health concerns, cognitive deficits, academic performance deficits, and in severe cases, premature …
