The world is currently facing two major problems, namely, increasing energy costs and global warming. As a result, it is crucial to take proactive measures to effectively address and mitigate the detrimental impacts arising from elevated energy costs, the pressing issue of global warming, and various types of environmental degradation. As a reaction, international organizations are advocating for the development of eco-friendly, sustainable, or green buildings as a strategy to reduce the harmful effects of the construction sector on the environment. While green development may entail higher costs for developers, it is imperative to evaluate the return on investment from …

Analysing Gamma Frequency Components In Eeg Signals: A Comprehensive Extraction Approach, Tanvir Hasib, Vijayakumar Vengadasalam
Journal of Informatics and Web Engineering
Gamma band activity is a high-frequency (30-100 Hz) oscillation of the electroencephalogram (EEG) that has been linked to a variety of cognitive processes including attention, memory and learning. However, extracting gamma band activity from EEG data can be challenging due to the relatively low signal-to-noise ratio of gamma band signals and the presence of other frequency bands such as beta and alpha. In this paper, we present a method for extracting gamma band activity from EEG data. We evaluated our method on a dataset of EEG data recorded from dyslexic patients. We found that our method was able to successfully …

Although previous studies looked at how employees should seek assistance, the issue is the researchinvestigation into how behavioral intelligence affects employee satisfaction is limited. This study examines several significant usages and developments of fuzzy mental modelling. The primary objective of the current section is to provide an innovative technique for modelling an emotion-based acceleration of the compressor for individuals. Methodologies of experiential thinking postulate that our comprehension of facial emotional reactions depends significantly on facial behavior imitation and the reactions as opportunities. Considering the theoretical foundations of combined logical reasoning. In addition, the hypothesis of probability, it additionally is not …

Text Document Clustering (TDC) is a challenging optimization problem in unsupervised machine learning and text mining. The Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) has been found to be effective in solving complex optimization problems. However, the SSA’s exploitation phase requires improvement to solve the TDC problem effectively. In this paper, we propose a new approach, known as the Bare-Bones Salp Swarm Algorithm (BBSSA), which leverages Gaussian search equations, inverse hyperbolic cosine control strategies, and greedy selection techniques to create new individuals and guide the population towards solving the TDC problem. We evaluated the performance of the BBSSA on six benchmark datasets from …

BACKGROUND: The International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective Knee Form (IKDC) is the most highly recommended patient reported outcome measure for assessing patients with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries and those undergoing ACL reconstruction (ACLR) surgery. The IKDC was developed as a unidimensional instrument for a variety of knee conditions. Structural validity, which determines how an instrument is scored, has not been definitively confirmed for the IKDC in respondents with ACL injuries, and in fact an alternative two-factor/subscale structure has been proposed in this population. The purpose of this study was to determine the most appropriate structure and scoring system for …

Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) face regulatory challenges, evident by that the current ship anti-collision regulations (e.g. COLREG) are not appliable for autonomous navigation systems. While academic research has focused on developing autonomous collision avoidance (CA), these studies have produced inconsistent outcomes compared to conventional navigation practices. This study aims to identify trends and weaknesses in recent academic studies on CA by reviewing and analysing the contents of selected papers. The conventional collision avoidance process (CCAP), which benchmarks human driven modern ship’s capacity for CA compliance with COLREG and industry requirements, was used to disintegrate into 53 fragmented functions under …

Narrative, Genre, And Interpretation In Achilles Tatius, Theodore Macdonald
Narrative, Genre, And Interpretation In Achilles Tatius, Theodore Macdonald
Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations
Achilles Tatius has long puzzled his readers. This study demonstrates how careful attention to Leucippe and Clitophon’s narrative structure, generic discourse, and thematization of interpretation helps us to better understand not only this work but also the genre of the Greek novel. The first chapter shows how the opening frame of Leucippe and Clitophon “frames” the whole of Clitophon’s embedded narration, by rehearsing the novel’s narrative structure and characterizing Achilles Tatius’ strategies for engaging with his literary predecessors. The second chapter situates Achilles Tatius’ approach to closure within that of the genre, revealing the close link between narrative manipulation and …

Culturally Sustaining Practices In Middle Schools, Chandra Diaz, Rebecca M. Nelson, Laurie A. Ramirez, Nancy B. Ruppert
Current Issues in Middle Level Education
The social unrest during the summer of 2020 in the United States has produced a renewed sense of urgency and agency for the interrogation of curriculum in K-12 education and the development of culturally sustaining practices. This urgency has encouraged more teacher preparation programs to be intentional in developing culturally sustaining teachers. This paper offers four pillars to frame classroom practices to be integrated holistically and support middle level preservice teachers’ development of their culturally sustaining practices. Pillar one focuses on understanding self. The ability to honestly self-reflect and to understand personal practice deeply and continually is critical. Pillar two …

Background: In Kenya, many people are currently living with dementia without a formal diagnosis or support; often attributing symptoms to normal aging or as a consequence of past behaviors. Dementia screening is not commonplace within Kenya. Improving the supply (or opportunity) of dementia screening within the region may promote uptake, thus leading to more people to seek a formal diagnosis and subsequently receive support within the Kenyan healthcare system. Community Healthcare Workers (CHWs) have successfully demonstrated their value in delivering health interventions within Kenya and have strong links within local communities. Objective: To integrate and evaluate a community-level dementia screening …

The Race, Social Class, And Place-Based Gap In Rural Turnaround Policy: A Policy Brief, Karynecia E. Conner
Journal of Multicultural Affairs
Abstract: For teachers, leaders, and policymakers To understand the factors that contribute to the successful implementation of rural school turnaround, there is a need to understand how turnaround leadership implements school improvement in different types of communities of color (Wright, 2019). Studies examining the implications of school turnaround in minoritized educational contexts have solely examined urban school contexts to exclude rural contexts (Mette & Stanoch, 2018). Rural schools of color undergoing turnaround face the fundamental unique educational challenges of rural schools and the education debt that has accumulated over time for people of color (Ladson-Billings, 2006). There is a greater …

Against The Tide: Indigenous Knowledge And Education For Humanization, Arturo Rodriguez, Kevin Russel Magill
Journal of Multicultural Affairs
Power brokers and their market economies enforce education on a global level. According to the United Nations, the effects of global neoliberal capitalism cause human rights violations in all parts of the world, yet democratic countries scoff at these findings (Pogge, 2002 & 2005). People of the world continue to believe that tying minoritized students to existing structures and ensuring enculturation is the best possible outcome for all involved (Suárez-Orozco & Suárez-Orozco, 2015). That is, minoritized children are educated to ensure first-world countries produce a minimally educated and willing labor force. In this paper we argue the following: 1) power …

The Mean Sum Of Squared Linking Numbers Of Random Piecewise-Linear Embeddings Of $K_N$, Yasmin Aguillon, Xingyu Cheng, Spencer Eddins, Pedro Morales
Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal
DNA and other polymer chains in confined spaces behave like closed loops. Arsuaga et al. \cite{AB} introduced the uniform random polygon model in order to better understand such loops in confined spaces using probabilistic and knot theoretical techniques, giving some classification on the mean squared linking number of such loops. Flapan and Kozai \cite{flapan2016linking} extended these techniques to find the mean sum of squared linking numbers for random linear embeddings of complete graphs $K_n$ and found it to have order $\Theta(n(n!))$. We further these ideas by inspecting random piecewise-linear embeddings of complete graphs and give introductory-level summaries of the ideas …

Photovoice As An Act Of Agency To Decenter Whiteness In P-12 Classrooms, Crystal V. Shelby-Caffey, Jinan Al-Hunayan
Journal of Educational Research and Practice
Given the lack of diversity in the P–12 teaching force, we contend that white normativity is prevalent and remains mostly unchallenged in these settings. Acknowledging such inequities requires an intentional focus on equity in teacher education programs. The project described here facilitated in-service teachers’ growth in becoming culturally competent and critically conscious by using Photovoice in P–12 classrooms. Photovoice is a participatory action research method that uses photography to examine the lived experiences of participants. Photovoice was used to examine school-based practices that erased and silenced students while offering an inflection point from which the in-service teachers could develop and …

Afl Students’ Perception Of Using Mnemonics As A Strategy To Enhance Their Vocabulary Acquisition And Retention, Elsayed Elsisi
Theses and Dissertations
Research in the field of language teaching and learning reveals that mnemonics is one of the most effective language learning strategies for vocabulary. Researchers like Rasiban, et al. (2019); Levin (1993); Zulfa (2019); Kayaaltu (2018) suggest that using mnemonics to learn new vocabulary has a positive effect on vocabulary retention and retrieval. Research also shows however that students’ perceptions may encourage or inhibit the usage of any learning strategy depending on their perceptions of its effectiveness. Hence the importance of detecting learner perception about any learning or teaching device. Despite the above there is limited research about students’ perceptions about …
