Protections Conference
It is important to quantify the soil resistance against erosion caused by the overflow of dikes and levees. Small-scale tests are not recommended, as they do not provide a correct representation of the actual soil in place and do not take into account the geometry of the structure. For this reason, the National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) developed an on-site overflow device in 2015. The procedure followed is based on ASTM-D6460 standard. Two tests were performed in May 2022 on a Compagnie Nationale du Rhône (CNR) dike near Avignon (France). The dike is 6.2 m high; …
Hemodynamics And Kinetics Of Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction Shock, Yevgeniy Brailovsky, J. Eduardo Rame, Thierry Le Jemtel, Indranee Rajapreyar
Hemodynamics And Kinetics Of Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction Shock, Yevgeniy Brailovsky, J. Eduardo Rame, Thierry Le Jemtel, Indranee Rajapreyar
Journal of Shock and Hemodynamics
The classical paradigm of cardiogenic shock is severe impairment of left ventricular, right ventricular, or biventricular contractility resulting in decreased cardiac output and end-organ failure. In patients with preserved ejection fraction, cardiogenic shock results from impaired left ventricular filling leading to decreased cardiac output and end-organ hypoperfusion. Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) comprises a heterogenous group of myocardial and systemic metabolic derangements. Cardiogenic shock with preserved left ventricular ejection is thought to be less common than with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction, and therapeutic approaches are not well standardized. We aim to review the pathophysiology of cardiogenic shock …
Recent Case Histories Of Cascade Failures And Overflowing Events Of Embankment Dams, Alexius Vogel, Jean-Robert Courivaud, Katarzyna Jarecka
Recent Case Histories Of Cascade Failures And Overflowing Events Of Embankment Dams, Alexius Vogel, Jean-Robert Courivaud, Katarzyna Jarecka
Protections Conference
Excessive rainfall and extensive flooding within the context of a changing environment show the fact that resistance to overflowing erosion of embankment dams needs to be better assessed because of the increasing number of dam failures caused by overflowing, implying the necessity of a reaction to this kind of challenges. Better understandings of the embankment failure processes and the dominant parameters affecting these kinds of failures are necessary for predicting and modeling the breach processes. Acquiring this better understanding of the physical processes and a numerical prediction capability requires progressing in parallel in laboratory and field test investigations of embankment …
A Qualitative Study Of Mindfulness, Sustainable Consumption And Consumer Well-Being And Their Interrelationships, Saba Resnik
A Qualitative Study Of Mindfulness, Sustainable Consumption And Consumer Well-Being And Their Interrelationships, Saba Resnik
Economic and Business Review
Consumers are becoming increasingly aware of the environmental degradation, negative economic consequences and social injustices caused by the unsustainable consumption of clothing products. Overall, therefore, sustainability requires more sustainable production of fashion apparel products as well as more responsible consumption behaviours by individual consumers. To gain a clearer picture of the concepts of mindfulness, sustainable consumption and consumer well-being and their interrelationships, in-depth interviews were conducted with individual consumers. The results of this study indicate a positive relationship between these three concepts as well as an overlap between the concepts of mindfulness and well-being.
Corruption And Non-Performing Loans, Ardit Gjeçi, Matej Marinč
Corruption And Non-Performing Loans, Ardit Gjeçi, Matej Marinč
Economic and Business Review
This article empirically evaluates the impact of corruption on the level of non-performing loans (NPLs) using the international bank-level data, spanning over the period 2000–2016 and across 140 countries. We find a positive and statistically significant relationship between corruption and NPLs. We also analyze the channels through which corruption affects NPLs. We find that the relationship between corruption and NPLs becomes more pronounced during and after the global financial crisis and is more pronounced for smaller banks. The association between corruption and NPLs is stronger in countries characterized by a high level of collectivism. The link between corruption and NPLs …
Exploring The Strategic Elements Of Backers’ Persuasion In Reward-Based Crowdfunding, Sabina Grižančič, Mateja Drnovšek
Exploring The Strategic Elements Of Backers’ Persuasion In Reward-Based Crowdfunding, Sabina Grižančič, Mateja Drnovšek
Economic and Business Review
In this paper we investigate the strategic elements that project founders' use in reward-based crowdfunding campaigns to achieve a higher level of persuasion. Exploration of these elements not only provides insights into an entrepreneur's experience with crowdfunding but also provides material for comparing results reported by other (quantitative) studies. We conducted an empirical study with 13 Kickstarter project founders through in-depth, semi-structured interviews which were analysed through a reflexive thematic analysis approach. Drawing from our findings, we propose four strategic elements that founders use to persuade backers and achieve success drawing from individual-level experiences and observations.
Effect Of Work-Family Conflict On Job Satisfaction Of Small Enterprise Managers, Joseph Kwadwo Tuffour, Florence Mansa Bortey
Effect Of Work-Family Conflict On Job Satisfaction Of Small Enterprise Managers, Joseph Kwadwo Tuffour, Florence Mansa Bortey
Economic and Business Review
Balancing priorities and demands of work and family at the same time can be quite hectic and likely to generate conflicts. Workers must find strategies to manage the exigencies of modern living in order to maintain job satisfaction as well as family relationships. This study investigates the effect of work-family conflict’s two directions on job satisfaction, and the moderating role of resilience. The study used a cross-sectional survey method to collect data from 293 small-scale enterprise managers, utilizing a structured questionnaire. Correlation and analysis of variance techniques were used. The results reveal that the work-family conflict has a significant positive …
Ethically Minded Consumer Behavior Of Apparel: An Examination Of Antecedents And Consequences, Maja Hrlec Gorše, Mateja Kos Koklič, Anže Zalokar
Ethically Minded Consumer Behavior Of Apparel: An Examination Of Antecedents And Consequences, Maja Hrlec Gorše, Mateja Kos Koklič, Anže Zalokar
Economic and Business Review
This research examines the ethically minded consumer behavior (EMCB) and its antecedents and consequences in the context of ethical clothes. Its objective is to test the relationships among the reasons for and against buying, subjective knowledge, EMCB and intention to purchase ethical clothes. The authors use survey data from 280 consumers to test the conceptual model. Support is provided for the majority of the hypothesized relationships: reasons for buying and subjective knowledge positively and reasons against buying negatively affect EMCB, and EMCB in turn positively influences the intention to purchase. Additionally, reasons against buying decrease the intention. The study also …

Women In The 2022 Olympic And Paralympic Games: An Analysis Of Participation, Leadership, And Media Coverage, Emily J. Houghton, Lindsay Pieper, Maureen Smith
Human Performance Department Publications
This report is the eighth in the series that follows the progress of women in the Olympic and Paralympic movement. The first three reports were published by the Women’s Sports Foundation. The fourth report was published by SHARP, the Sport, Health and Activity Research and Policy Center for Women and Girls. SHARP was a research center at the University of Michigan’s Institute for Research on Women and Gender, co-founded by the Women’s Sports Foundation. The fifth report, published in 2017 by the Women’s Sports Foundation, provided the most comprehensive examination of the participation trends among female Olympic and Paralympic athletes …
