Background: Publication of registered clinical trials is a critical step in the timely dissemination of trial findings. However, a significant proportion of completed clinical trials are never published, motivating the need to analyze the factors behind success or failure to publish. This could inform study design, help regulatory decision-making, and improve resource allocation. It could also enhance our understanding of bias in the publication of trials and publication trends based on the research direction or strength of the findings. Although the publication of clinical trials has been addressed in several descriptive studies at an aggregate level, there is a lack …

Micro-Tensile Bond Strength Of Three Different Dual Cure Resin Composites Bonded To Dentin, Atya A. Alzarouq, Rabab Mehesen, Ashraf I. Ali
Mansoura Journal of Dentistry
Objective: To evaluate the micro-tensile bond strength (μTBS) and micro-morphological analysis of composite dentin interface of dual-cure resin composites bonded to dentin. Materials and Methods: For the micro-tensile bond strength test, sixty sound human maxillary and mandibular molars were collected. After embedding the selected molars in an acrylic resin block, the occlusal enamel and superficial dentin of each tooth were removed, exposing the mid-dentin area. They were assigned randomly into three groups (n=20) according to the restorative system. Then both groups were further divided into two subgroups; subgroup 1 for immediately tested specimens after 24 h (n=10), and subgroup 2 …

Library Publications and Administrative Reports
This year’s stories highlight successes and transformations, which will remain woven into the fabric of our organization. Instituting contactless pick-up for library materials is an example of learning how to quickly bring together people to solve immediate problems. We also became more effective at engaging with our constituencies. We reached more users through virtual consultations and online reference assistance and helped them get access to the expertise and materials they needed. We opened access to special collections through on-demand digitization. We broke barriers in the adoption of digital resources for teaching. And we began the challenging work of developing a …

Meristem is a program designed for young adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) that emphasizes teaching the necessary skills for students to live life independently with confidence. Through structured and semi-structured interviews with staff members and students, a need that was identified within this organization is to have a thorough and consistent personal hygiene regimen for their students. While Meristem is currently implementing standard personal hygiene care in their curriculum, the variability of students understanding and implementing personal hygiene education has become an obstacle within this organization. To address this need for individuals with ASD, Video Modeling (VM) can offer …

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) are tools, technologies, and approaches used to provide ways other than speech to aid communication-related challenges (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, n.d.). A communication board is a low-tech AAC tool seen in various formats such as printed on a poster board or digital applications on electronic devices. It consists of rows and columns of squares with simple pictures and minimally-worded labels in the preferred language.

Description: A weighted vest is a vest that typically has 10% of a person’s body weight evenly distributed around the vest (Olson et al., 2004). A weighted vest can provide sensory input that is believed to alleviate dysregulation, inattentiveness, and stereotypic behaviors (Carter et al., 2009).
Goal: Our community group is specifically targeting children with sensory processing impairments who are attending speech therapy sessions at the RiteCare clinic. Sensory behaviors exhibited by the clients are most commonly shown through dysregulation, outbursts, inattentiveness, and hyperactivity. The goal is to limit these maladaptive behaviors and increase attention span during intervention sessions. Weighted …

Given the recent proliferation of false claims online, there has been a lot of manual fact-checking effort. As this is very time-consuming, human fact-checkers can benefit from tools that can support them and make them more efficient. Here, we focus on building a system that could provide such support. Given an input document, it aims to detect all sentences that contain a claim that can be verified by some previously fact-checked claims (from a given database). The output is a re-ranked list of the document sentences, so that those that can be verified are ranked as high as possible, together …

Propaganda is the expression of an opinion or an action by an individual or a group deliberately designed to influence the opinions or the actions of other individuals or groups with reference to predetermined ends, which is achieved by means of well-defined rhetorical and psychological devices. Propaganda techniques are commonly used in social media to manipulate or to mislead users. Thus, there has been a lot of recent research on automatic detection of propaganda techniques in text as well as in memes. However, so far the focus has been primarily on English. With the aim to bridge this language gap, …

Comparison Of A Dynamic Ankle Orthosis To A Walking Boot For Preserving Ankle Joint Motion And Reducing Tibial Bone Load And Strain, Perri Johnson Jr.
Comparison Of A Dynamic Ankle Orthosis To A Walking Boot For Preserving Ankle Joint Motion And Reducing Tibial Bone Load And Strain, Perri Johnson Jr.
Theses and Dissertations (ETD)
Tibial stress fractures are a common overuse injury accounting for 21.9 – 69% of stress fractures among runners and 24 – 51.2% of stress fractures in military cadets. Current treatment involves wearing a walking boot for 3 – 12 weeks, which limits ankle motion and causes lower limb muscle atrophy. A Dynamic Ankle Orthosis (DAO) provided a distractive force that offloaded the ankle and retained sagittal ankle excursion during walking. It remains unclear how tibial loading is affected by a walking boot or the DAO. This thesis presents a feasibility study confirming the offloading effects of the DAO on tibial …
Elevating The Queer Body, Grant Mahan
Elevating The Queer Body, Grant Mahan
Graduate Theses
Elevating the Queer Body is an art based exploration in removing objectification in the visual consumption of my own queer body. Throughout this thesis, I explain the experience of queer objectification, and how to overcome it through abstraction in a painting practice. This research comprises spiritual ideologies, as well as the history of abstraction, to inspire me in creating an ethically consumed representation of my figure. This is achieved through an abstract depiction and veiling of my figure. Presented compositions are overlaid with Islamic inspired devotion and ornamentation as a form of elevating the body itself.

Diverse Glycosides From Gardenia Latifolia With Antiviral Activity And Chemosystematic Significance, Shaymaa M. Mohamed, Samir A. Ross, Mai A. M. Ahmed
Faculty and Student Publications
Several influenza pandemics have impacted our life, each with variable prevalence and severity. In a search for natural antivirals, further phytochemical investigation of Gardenia latifolia Aiton, Rubiaceae, was conducted. As a result, five structurally diverse glycosides were isolated, offering valuable chemotaxonomic data. Using the crystal violet technique, three isolates, canthoside C, (6R,7S,8S)-7α-[(β-d-glucopyranosyl) oxy] lyoniresinol, and ecdysanrosin A, were evaluated for their anti-influenza A (H1N1) activities. Based on previously reported anti-inflammatory activity of the guaiane class, we investigated the inhibitory effect of (1R,7R,8S,10R)-7,8,11-trihydroxy-guai-4-ene-3-one 8-O-β-d-glucopyranoside, a rare guaiane sesquiterpene glucoside, on inducible nitric oxide (NO) production by Griess assay. Regarding antiviral assay, …
