The Effects Of Building Envelope Parameters On Energy Performance For High-Rise Buildings In Central Saudi Arabia, Nadia Arafah
The Effects Of Building Envelope Parameters On Energy Performance For High-Rise Buildings In Central Saudi Arabia, Nadia Arafah
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Sustainable design is achievable based on the social, economic, and environmental pillars interrelated with energy consumption worldwide. Saudi Arabia is one of the largest countries that consume massive amounts of energy, mainly for generating electricity to operate buildings and cope with population growth. Despite Saudi Arabia’s fast economic development, building envelopes in Saudi Arabia deserve more research attention to address energy consumption and environmental challenges. With the extremely hot weather in the country, building occupants use air conditioning extensively to overcome the heat and achieve thermal comfort. This research analyzed building envelope variables in an existing building in Riyadh, Saudi …

As we interact with youmg people, we must remember that as Christian educators, our primary goal is to help them find their place in the story of God. We must show them where they appear and how choosing Jesus can change their lives. Then we must show them where they fit into the community of believers and provide opportunities for them to “live” their stories in mission and outreach opportunities in the world around them. We must play our part by being ready daily to share how our devotional times with Jesus each day are impacting our lives and decisions …

The Role Of Digital Channels In Predicting Objective And Subjective Negotiation Outcomes, Roshni Raveendhran, Tami Kim, Ji Woon Ryu
The Role Of Digital Channels In Predicting Objective And Subjective Negotiation Outcomes, Roshni Raveendhran, Tami Kim, Ji Woon Ryu
Business Faculty Publications and Presentations
Today’s hiring and workplace communications are increasingly occurring in the digital space, a trend accelerated by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. In two preregistered experiments and an internal meta-analysis, we test the subjective and objective impact of two digital channels—video and synchronous text—that are popularly used in today’s workplace contexts. In doing so, we isolate the role that richness of digital channels plays in influencing negotiation outcomes while holding synchrony constant. Specifically, we predicted that negotiating via video (vs. synchronous text) will foster better integrative outcomes and improve negotiators’ subjective outcomes. Results indicated that negotiating via video, compared to synchronous …

Microbiologiques

Environmental impact associated with production and consumption of pulses in the United States was evaluated using life cycle assessment (LCA). The system boundary was set to cradle-to-grave with a functional unit of 60 g (dry basis) of pulses consumed in a US household. Varieties of pulses modeled in the study included field pea (Pisum sativum), lentil (Lens culinaris), chickpea (Cicer arietinum), and dry bean. Three methods of cooking pulses at the consumer stage tested in the study were cooking in open vessel on electric cooking range (OVC), cooking in stovetop pressure cooker on electric cooking range (SPC), and cooking in …

Understanding The Influence Of Authentic Leadership And Employee-Organization Relationships On Employee Voice Behaviors In Response To Dissatisfying Events At Work, Young Kim, Ejae Lee, Minjeong Kang, Sung-Un Yang
College of Communication Faculty Research and Publications
This study demonstrates how authentic leadership and the quality of employee-organization relationships (EOR) influence employee behavioral reactions to dissatisfying events at work. We conducted a nationwide survey of 644 full-time employees in the United States. The results from the structural equation modeling (SEM) revealed that authentic leadership was positively and directly related to employees’ considerate voice but was not directly associated with other behavioral responses. Additionally, the quality of EOR was found to be a strong mediator between authentic leadership and employee behaviors—particularly in enhancing considerate voice and patience and reducing exit—in the context of dissatisfying workplace events. The implications …

Social media platforms are becoming an increasingly important site for consumer finance. This phenomenon is referred to as “FinTok,” a reference to the “#fintok” hashtag that identifies financial content on TikTok, a popular social media platform. This Essay examines the new methodological possibilities for consumer financial regulation due to FinTok. It argues that FinTok content offers a novel and valuable source of data for identifying emerging fintech trends and associated consumer risks. As such, financial regulators should use FinTok content analysis—and social media content analysis more broadly—as an additional method for the supervision and regulation of consumer financial markets. Proportional Fair Clustered Federated Learning, Mohamed Nafea, Eugine Shin, Aylin Yener
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
This paper studies federated learning (FL) with non-identical data generating distributions and under the notion of proportional fairness. Users are partitioned into disjoint clusters based on their data distributions, and a distinct model is learnt for each cluster. Different than previous work that considered clustering to optimize personalized learning performance, here clustering is inspected under the disparate impact doctrine which requires that protected classes (e.g., those of certain race or gender) have representations in every cluster that are approximately equal to their representation in the overall set of users. A family of iterative algorithms that balance the learning performance and …
Detection Of Epilepsy Using Machine Learning, Balamurugan Murugesan
Detection Of Epilepsy Using Machine Learning, Balamurugan Murugesan
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Epilepsy is a complex neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures. An electroencephalogram (EEG) is typically used in the diagnosis of Epilepsy. Normally, EEGs are reviewed and analyzed by trained neurologists, but this can be time-consuming and error-prone. In this paper, we propose combining multiple classifiers in a multi-level fashion using stacked generalization to develop an effective solution for the detection of epilepsy using EEG data. Different classifiers such as Random Forest (RF), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), and XGBoost (XGB) were tested. The method was evaluated using Children’s Hospital Boston and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (CHB-MIT) dataset. The experimental results demonstrated …
