Oil Rig Trainees’ Perspectives On The Influence Of Drilling Simulation On Their Learning And Motivation, Adel Mohamed Hassanein Abdelaziz
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Low enrollment levels in vocational drilling training programs in the Arabian Gulf area have resulted in a talent gap, with little success in building and retaining national crews. With current simulation technology, it is believed that trainees' learning, motivation, and achievements will increase; however, further study is needed to determine if these conclusions hold. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore how using simulation technologies influences trainees' learning, motivation, and perspectives about completing their education at an oil-field drilling rig’s vocational training facility. Davis’s technology acceptance model concerning user reception of information systems formed the conceptual framework. …

Counselor educators are ill-equipped to train counselors to prepare to meet the needs of Black Christian Pentecostal Women (BCPW) because there is a lack of information on this population. To increase cultural competency, counselors need to be more aware of the experiences of this population. The purpose of this study was to explore the lived experiences of BCPW who sought community mental health counseling concurrent with deliverance practices through the church. Using Edmund Husserl’s transcendental phenomenological approach as the conceptual framework, semi-structured interviews via zoom were conducted with 4 BCPW who were active members of the Christ Throne International Ministries …

Telemedicine Services And Patient Satisfaction, Sunday Omotayo Alle
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractPatient satisfaction associated with the use of telemedicine for patient care may be subjective as it may not reflect the patients' comfort and willingness to use telemedicine. Even though current perceptions of telemedicine may be positive, the challenge is knowing what constitutes the ingredients of patient satisfaction, particularly regarding age. This study examined two research questions concerning whether a patient’s age (independent variable) affected their comfort and willingness (dependent variable) to use telemedicine for their care. The health belief model was the theoretical framework and related to an individual's perception of their health behaviors and their willingness to change their …

Psychosocial Complexities Of American Black Women’S Experiences With Weight Loss Or Obesity, Danielle Atkins
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Weight loss and obesity among American Black women (including African American and Caribbean Black women) is a growing issue in the United States. However, a notable gap exists in the literature regarding research into this population’s lived experiences with weight loss or obesity, specifically regarding underlying psychosocial needs, such as cultural influences, self-care, and social networks, which are not being met to support them in making behavioral changes. A greater understanding of the impact of American Black women’s psychosocial underlying experiences may help mental health professionals support them in their efforts toward a healthier lifestyle. Prophylactic Antimalarial Intermittent Preventive Therapy In Pregnancy And Birth Weight In Togo, Epiphane Awokou
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
In Togo, prophylactic antimalarial intermittent preventive therapy in pregnancy (IPTp) is provided to disrupt suboptimal pathways leading to the issue of low birth weight. However, there is a lack of nationally representative data on the determinants of this adverse birth outcome. The purpose of this quantitative cross-sectional study was to determine pregnancy-related determinants of low birth weight through a nationally representative dataset. Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems model guided this study to explore potential associations between the covariates IPTp, utilization of long-lasting insecticidal bed nets, age of pregnant women, socioeconomic status of pregnant women, and gravidity type of pregnant women and the …

The Effect Of Female Leadership On Organizational Effectiveness In The Nigerian Oil And Gas Sector, Kadilo Badom
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
AbstractFemale participation in economic production remains a vital discourse in the public space irrespective of the type of activity or economic jurisdiction. The Nigerian economy is not left out as successive governments in the country have continued to encourage the participation of women in governance, public institutions, and private sector firms. These targeted efforts notwithstanding, there are still sectors where male dominance remains a major issue. Prior research shows that among the reasons for not promoting females to leadership positions include specific organizational stereotypes, ideologies, lack of female motivation-to-lead, and societal values, and lack of role-models. Within the Nigerian oil …

The local organization identified a concern with appropriate weekend staffing due to repeated callouts by nurses. The purpose of this DNP project was to determine whether an educational intervention on the relationship between adequate staffing and positive patient outcomes, coupled with a review of the organization’s policy regarding weekend staffing, increases knowledge and awareness among nurses working weekends. Benner’s novice to expert theory and systems theory were used to ground this project. Following an invitational email, 20 individuals participated in the educational intervention. Most participants (n = …

While preventable, medication administration error rates surpass most estimates and result in poor quality care. Researchers have demonstrated that interventions have been identified, new technology has been deployed, and training and education have increased, yet the errors persist. Researchers have yet been able to establish the most prevalent, harmful, and costly types of medication administration errors. The purpose of this quantitative study was to identify trends in medication administration errors committed in inpatient settings, specific to the type of error, patient outcomes, and malpractice payment amounts. Donabedian’s model for healthcare quality, derived from the three categories of structure, process, and …

Self-Identified Atheists In 12-Step Substance Use Disorder Treatment And Aftercare, Elizabeth Clare Bayley
Self-Identified Atheists In 12-Step Substance Use Disorder Treatment And Aftercare, Elizabeth Clare Bayley
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The Minnesota model is ubiquitous in the United States for the treatment of substance use disorder (SUD). The model uses 12 steps and is centered on a belief in god(s) or a higher power; however, it is anathema to an atheist worldview. Researchers have noted that atheists do not readily become involved with 12-step programs and tend to drop out; however, there had been no qualitative investigations of the lived experiences of atheists in 12-step SUD treatment. The purpose of this study was to determine whether 12-step SUD treatment was problematic for atheists. An integrated theoretical framework was used. Minority …
