Predictors Of Homelessness Among Female Veterans And Civilians, Victoria Caridad Justiniano Quinones Jan 2022

Predictors Of Homelessness Among Female Veterans And Civilians, Victoria Caridad Justiniano Quinones

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Homelessness among female veterans is a problem that is likely to increase as growing numbers of women in the U.S. military reestablish themselves into their communities as veterans. There has been increasing concern about the greater risk for homelessness found among female veterans when compared to their nonveteran counterparts, so further investigation of homeless incidence by gender is also warranted. This quantitative, exploratory study was grounded in the social ecological theory, the Balshem and colleagues conceptual model of risk factors for veteran homelessness, and the Susser, Moore, and Link conceptual model which investigated causal pathways that are possible risk factors …

The classic theoretical foundation framework on federalism was applied. The purpose of this research was to study current trends within the Russian federal government system and investigate paths for Russia’s …

Social cognitive theory was applied to the pathway of juvenile sexual offending behaviors to develop insight into how this behavior may be learned and to inform the selection of variables for this research. The key research question explored how traits of family dysfunction moderated the relationship between childhood …

Measuring Advance Directive Knowledge Gives Rise To Primary Care Nurses' Education Training, Arnell Corethia Kithcart

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractPatients have the right to self-determine how and in what manner they desire to make end-of-life decisions. The use of advance directives (AD) is the focus of the Patient Self Determination Act (PSDA). The PSDA permits the use of legal documents to outline the patient’s end-of-life decision when they can no longer communicate to the medical community. Because individuals with chronic diseases are living longer the medical community must stay abreast on current laws and protocols to provide the care needed and address patient’s wishes for end-of-life needs. Nurses would be ideal to provide education on AD to patients upon …

The theoretical framework for this study was Janis and Mann’s conflict model of decision-making. This study involved answering the question: From the perspectives of police officers involved in shootings, …

After the 1995 shooting death of an unarmed Indigenous protester by police at the Ipperwash occupation, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) introduced an unconventional operational approach for protests known as the OPP Framework policy. That approach was built on the concepts of peacekeeping, patient negotiation, mutual respect, and the minimal use …

In this generic qualitative research, members of a collaborative mental health and emergency medical service professionals (EMSPs) team in an urban area were interviewed to assess the team members’ perceptions of the impact of the program on frequency of adverse outcomes during interactions with PMIs. The need for technology use has become a necessity in 21st-century classrooms. To accomplish this, more districts have been implementing 1:1 technology initiatives. In a 1:1 technology classroom, every student has their own device, such as a Chromebook or iPad. Although districts are increasing their 1:1 initiatives, little research has been done on early elementary teachers’ perceptions of the use of 1:1 devices to support their current pedagogy and teaching in their classrooms. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to use Koehler and Mishra’s technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) framework to investigate how Midwestern public school early elementary …

Course Modality And Dialogue As Predictors Of Postsecondary Student Success In Online Programs, Danielle Lawson

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

There is a growing demand for online education; however, online programs yield consistently lower student retention rates and student success. Students in online programs are typically nontraditional students from underrepresented populations in higher education. The purpose of this nonexperimental quantitative study was to determine whether dialogue (learner–learner, learner–instructor, and learner–content interactions) and course modality (traditional online and competency-based education [CBE] online) predicted student success (final course grade). Moore’s model of transactional distance served as the theoretical framework for this study, specifically the dialogue component. Participants were 127 online higher education students who took (successfully or unsuccessfully) a traditional online course …

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Moral distress (MD) is a concept that has been well studied in nursing and other medical fields as a precursor to provider burnout. Understanding how MD impacts behavioral health (BH) clinicians provides insights for counselor educators and supervisors to identify clinical situations that often lead to MD. This qualitative phenomenological study explored how MD was experienced by five BH clinicians who have worked in residential and hospital settings providing counseling to maternal, opioid-using clients. Interpretive phenomenological analysis (IPA) informed the research methodology and data analysis. Substance use during pregnancy is highly stigmatized in society; thus, a feminist conceptualization was integrated …
