Human Development And Macroeconomic Shocks In Nigeria: An Empirical Investigation, Risikat O.S. Dauda, Onyebuchi Iwegbu Dec 2022

Human Development And Macroeconomic Shocks In Nigeria: An Empirical Investigation, Risikat O.S. Dauda, Onyebuchi Iwegbu

Journal of Social, Behavioral, and Health Sciences

This paper explores how human development responds to selected macroeconomic shocks in Nigeria. The study employed the Sen’s capabilities approach as the analytical approach and posited that the level of education, health status, quality of investment, technology, and government fiscal and monetary policies are plausible determinants of human development. We used the Structural Vector Autoregression (SVAR) to estimate the responses of such selected shocks, which are inflation, interest rate, government capital expenditure, exchange rate, current account balance, and savings shocks. The Forecast Error Variance Decomposition (FEVD) and the Impulse Response (IR) showed that a fiscal policy shock is the major …

Influence Of The Preparation Technique On The Magnetic Characteristics Of Ε-Fe2o3-Based Composites, Dmitriy O. Testov, Kamil G. Gareev, Ivan K. Khmelnitskiy, Andrei Kosterov, Leonid Surovitskii, Victor V. Luchinin

Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1

ε-Fe2O3 is an iron(III) oxide polymorph attracting an increasing interest due to its unique magnetic properties combining extremely high coercivity and relatively large saturation magnetization. We review existing methods for the ε-Fe2O3 synthesis focusing on synthesis speed, repeatability, manufacturability and purity of the final product. Samples of ε-Fe2O3 have been synthesized using the two methods that appear the most promising: silica gel impregnation and microemulsion. In both cases, ε-Fe2O3 and α-Fe2O3 are present in the final product as attested by X-ray diffraction patterns and magnetic properties (maximum coercive force at 300 K~1 Tesla). Two different precursors, iron(III) nitrate and iron(II) …

Influence Of Thick Sandstone On Development Of Overburden Mining Fissures In Northern Shaanxi Coal Mining Area Of Yellow River Basin And Suggestions On Water-Preserved Coal Mining, Wang Shuangming, Wei Jiangbo, Song Shijie, Wang Shengquan, Sun Tao

Coal Geology & Exploration

The change of geological conditions of coal seam roof overburden and the development of mining fissures caused by coal mining activities are the direct causes of damage to the key underground aquifers, and also the root causes of ecological environment degradation in the mining area. As a typical geological condition, the thick sandstone developed in the overburden structure of the coal seam roof has an important impact on the development law of mining fissures in the overburden. Therefore, the influence of the thickness and location of different thick sandstones on the development morphology and height of overburden mining fractures was …

Geological Soil Formation For Ecological Restoration Of Mining Areas And Its Case Study, Hu Zhenqi, Zhang Zixuan, Sun Huang Dec 2022

Geological Soil Formation For Ecological Restoration Of Mining Areas And Its Case Study, Hu Zhenqi, Zhang Zixuan, Sun Huang

Coal Geology & Exploration

Soil is an important substrate of plant growth, as well as the key for successful ecological restoration of mine. In view of the status of insufficient soil for most of ecological restoration of mine and the reality of a very long process of geological soil formation, the concept and method of geological soil formation for ecological restoration of mine (Mine-GSF for short) were discussed on the basis of description on the principle of natural geological soil formation. Natural geologic soil formation is the process of turning “rock” into “soil” through a long period of macro-geological cycle and biological cycle, including …

Discussion On Identification Standard Of Coal-Measure Graphite, Cao Daiyong, Wang Lu, Zhu Wenqing, Wu Guoqiang, Wei Yingchun, Ning Shuzheng, Wang Guixiang, Xiao Jincheng, Xu Xiang, Liu Kang

Coal Geology & Exploration

The identification and classification of coal-measure graphite are the precondition and basic work of mineral geological exploration, as well as resource exploitation and utilization. The preparation of identification standards of coal-measure graphite should follow the principles of science, systematicness, applicability and operability. Coal graphitization and coalification is a continuous progression plus jump process, and the characteristics of coal-measure graphite, including the step evolution of macromolecular structure and the heterogeneity of material composition, leads to the complexity of ore identification. In order to establish the scientific and practical identification standards, and from the study of metallogenic mechanism and the demand of …

Experimental Research On Mechanical Properties Of “Jacked Pipe-Frozen Soil” Composite Structure In Freeze-Sealing Pipe Roof Tunnel, Duan Yin, Rong Chuanxin, Cai Haibing, Long Wei

Coal Geology & Exploration

As the key project of Zhuhai Connecting Line of Hong Kong‒Zhuhai‒Macao Bridge, the underground excavation section of Gongbei Tunnel has applied the freeze-sealing pipe roof method for the first time. Combining the advantages of the pipe roof method and the artificial ground freezing method, this method could form a “jacked pipe-frozen soil curtain” composite support system on the tunnel section, so as to effectively achieve the dual goals of “bearing” and “water-stopping between pipes”, thereby ensuring that stability and safety during tunnel excavation. To obtain the temperature, deformation and mechanical properties of the “jacked pipe-frozen soil” composite structure, a set …

Path Planning Of Coal Mine Rescue Robot Based On Improved A* Algorithm, Zhang Weimin, Zhang Yue, Zhang Hui Dec 2022

Path Planning Of Coal Mine Rescue Robot Based On Improved A* Algorithm, Zhang Weimin, Zhang Yue, Zhang Hui

Coal Geology & Exploration

A coal mine rescue robot that performs a rescue task needs to obtain the environment model and plan a collision-free path from the current location to the target location with the built-in algorithm upon receiving a task instruction. In order to reduce the moving time of the rescue robot, the path is usually required to be time-optimal. However, the path planned by the conventional A* algorithm that is widely used at present under the grid map environment has many problems, such as many path redundancy points and large turning angle, which leads to the fact that the path is suboptimal …

Making Group Work Work: Constructing Groups And Assignments Based Around Relevant Assessments To Increase Student Success, James Altman Dec 2022

Making Group Work Work: Constructing Groups And Assignments Based Around Relevant Assessments To Increase Student Success, James Altman

UNLV Best Teaching Practices Expo

Helping college students get the most out of their talents, is challenging even without the ongoing uncertainty of the post-Pandemic landscape. Shyness, lack of comfort with the subject matter, and fear of having their ideas dismissed, can all keep students from expressing their ideas as fully as they, and we, would like. This can lead to non-completion or plagiarism of assignments. In group settings, it can lead to one student “taking over” the project, or the rest of the group “pushing it off” on one member. Constructing groups and/or assignments based around relevant assessments, namely Myers-Briggs and “The Six Working …

Ai In The Hands Of Imperfect Users, Kristin M Kostick-Quenet, Sara Gerke

Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy Staff Publications

As the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) continues to expand in healthcare, much attention has been given to mitigating bias in algorithms to ensure they are employed fairly and transparently. Less attention has fallen to addressing potential bias among AI/ML's human users or factors that influence user reliance. We argue for a systematic approach to identifying the existence and impacts of user biases while using AI/ML tools and call for the development of embedded interface design features, drawing on insights from decision science and behavioral economics, to nudge users towards more critical and reflective decision making using …
