Lyme disease is a zoonotic illness caused by Borrelia burgdorferi, which present with skin, joint, heart, and central nervous system complications. Central nervous system manifestations of this disease are common, and typically include meningitis, facial nerve palsies, and radiculoneuritis. In this case report, we present a patient who presented with acute right sided hemiplegia and ataxia with negative neuroimaging findings of stroke, inflammation, or mass. Further investigation with cerebrospinal fluid studies and infectious panels revealed the patient had active Lyme disease. This report aims to review a case of breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) by comparing the patient's course with the current literature.

BIA-ALCL is a specific type of T-cell lymphoma that can develop after breast implantation, but has only recently been recognized within the last decade. Although overall rare, certain types of breast implants have increased association with developing subsequent lymphoma. This case occurred after mastectomy with breast reconstruction for unilateral invasive ductal carcinoma with a textured, saline Allergan breast implant. BIA-ALCL manifested and was symptomatic nine years after implantation.

In our study, we refined an offline three-dimensional (3D) Lagrangian model named the Larval TRANSport Lagrangian (LTRANS) model and applied it to the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). Previous research that applied the model within the Texas-Louisiana (TXLA) shelf domain, which released plastics to simulate their trajectories and fate, showed that more than 40% of simulated particles did not reach the land boundaries. Some of those particles were assumed to move out of the TXLA domain. In reality, these particles could also re-enter the TXLA domain due to processes such as tidal excursion, mesoscale eddies and inertial oscillation. However, the model …

Dexamethasone (DXM) and methylprednisolone (MEP) are potent glucocorticoids used to control several inflammatory conditions. Evidence of delayed DXM reaching the central nervous system (CNS) as well as tachyphylaxis and systemic, undesirable side effects are the main limitations of peripheral delivery. Intranasal administration offers direct access to the brain as it bypasses the blood–brain barrier. The scalloped hammerhead shark, Sphyrna lewini, is a Critically Endangered, migratory species known for its tendency to form iconic and visually spectacular large aggregations. Herein, we investigated the population genetic dynamics of the scalloped hammerhead across much of its distribution in the Eastern Tropical Pacific (ETP), ranging from Costa Rica to Ecuador, focusing on young-of-year animals from putative coastal nursery areas and adult females from seasonal aggregations that form in the northern Galápagos Islands. Teachers (n=14) at four high schools in North Carolina were interviewed about their perspectives of evaluation policy at two time points during the 2016-2017 school year. This study specifically examined statements teachers made about feedback from observations using de-identified interview transcripts. Teachers discussed feedback from formal observations along with other sources of informal observational feedback (e.g., coaches, peers). Overall, teachers described useful feedback as that which provided actionable recommendations informed by the observer’s knowledge of three domains: the classroom context (as aided by the frequency and timing of observations), subject area, and pedagogy.
