Reinventing Opportunities For Argentina: Vista Oil And Gas, Emiliano Cabrera
Reinventing Opportunities For Argentina: Vista Oil And Gas, Emiliano Cabrera
Dartmouth College Master’s Theses
In the last century, Argentina faced an astonishing economic downturn that remains until today, frustrating all who learn its economic history, explore the country's potential, and stay in tune with its political-economic present. This research examines Argentina's economic history, revises the main drivers that signed its economic drama, and proposes guidelines to address new opportunities by encouraging its private sector. By using Vista Oil and Gas as an exemplary case, this work proposes Vista's business model as an initiative perfectly compatible with the primary macroeconomic needs that Argentina currently has that should be highly considered for developing its private sector. …
Molecular Engineering Of Self-Immolative Polymers As Chemically Responsive Temporary Adhesives For Protective Garments, Hana J. Yarbrough
Molecular Engineering Of Self-Immolative Polymers As Chemically Responsive Temporary Adhesives For Protective Garments, Hana J. Yarbrough
Dartmouth College Master’s Theses
The long-term goal of this thesis is to design novel chemical protective garments that both shield and sense for chemical warfare agents. The overarching hypothesis of this work is that joining textiles with a chemically responsive temporary adhesive will reduce the permeability of and detect hazardous analytes across fabric boundaries. Work towards achieving this goal and testing this hypothesis is separated into two chapters. The first chapter reports the development of a self-immolative polymer, poly(phthalaldehyde), into a stimuli-responsive temporary adhesive. Developing poly(phthalaldehyde) as a robust adhesive that rapidly releases substrates would be a significant and novel contribution to the fields …

Mapping Racial Capitalism: Implications For Law, Carmen G. Gonzalez, Athena D. Mutua
Mapping Racial Capitalism: Implications For Law, Carmen G. Gonzalez, Athena D. Mutua
Journal Articles
The theory of racial capitalism offers insights into the relationship between class and race, providing both a structural and a historical account of the ways in which the two are linked in the global economy. Law plays an important role in this. This article sketches what we believe are two key structural features of racial capitalism: profit-making and race-making for the purpose of accumulating wealth and power. We understand profit-making as the extraction of surplus value or profits through processes of exploitation, expropriation, and expulsion, which are grounded in a politics of race-making. We understand race-making as including racial stratification, …
The Effect Of Mineral Composition On Elastic Properties Of The Bakken Formation In The Williston Basin, North Dakota, John Albert Harju
The Effect Of Mineral Composition On Elastic Properties Of The Bakken Formation In The Williston Basin, North Dakota, John Albert Harju
Theses and Dissertations
Hydrocarbon production from tight oil and/or shale plays requires drilling horizontal wells with very long laterals and hydraulic fracturing operations to stimulate the reservoirs which have generally very low porosity and permeability. A great amount of experience has been accumulated over the past two decades in the North America from production of these types of reservoirs. The Bakken formation in North Dakota, is one of the largest tight oil producers in the U.S.A. and currently ranks as the second largest producer of oil in the nation. The Bakken formation is divided into the upper and lower shale members, which are …
Rock Physics Based Velocity-Porosity Correlations Developed For Estimation Of The Elastic Properties Of The Bakken Formations Of The Williston Basin, North Dakota, Lynn D. Helms
Theses and Dissertations
Oil production from the Bakken Shale in North Dakota has benefitted from significant technological advancements since its beginning approximately two decades ago. Most of the advancements resulted from better characterization of shales, which are very heterogeneous and their properties vary at different scales. The need for costly operations such as drilling long laterals and multi-stage hydraulic fracturing for production from these unconventional reservoirs, signifies the importance of understanding the physical and mechanical properties of these formations in order to reduce the risk margins and improve project economics at diffetent phases of the life of the field. Rock physics is a …
Is United States (U.S.) Policy Sufficient To Develop Earth-Moon Economic Zone Infrastructures By 2049?, Terry Jaggers
Is United States (U.S.) Policy Sufficient To Develop Earth-Moon Economic Zone Infrastructures By 2049?, Terry Jaggers
Theses and Dissertations
The nation first-to-develop infrastructures in the future Earth-Moon Economic Zone will set the standards that shape and govern use by others, increasing both economic and national power. Current U.S. economic and national power is built upon a legacy of infrastructure leadership on Earth and in Earth orbit. However, China has a goal to supplant U.S. infrastructure leadership on Earth and establish leadership before the U.S. in the Earth-Moon Economic Zone by 2049. While the U.S. acknowledges China’s terrestrial infrastructure goals as an economic challenge, China’s space infrastructure goals appear to be met as either a military challenge in Earth orbit, …
An Exploratory Analysis Of A Time Synchronization Protocol For Uas, Marcos Fernandez-Tous
An Exploratory Analysis Of A Time Synchronization Protocol For Uas, Marcos Fernandez-Tous
Theses and Dissertations
This dissertation provides a numerical analysis of a Receiver Only Synchronization (ROS) protocol which is proposed for use by Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations. The use of ROS protocols could reinforce current technologies that enable transmission over 5G cell networks, decreasing latency issues and enabling the incorporation of an increased number of UAS to the network, without loss of accuracy. A minimum squared error (MSE)-based accuracy of clock offset and clock skew estimations was obtained using the number of iterations and number of observations as independent parameters. Although the model converged after only …
The Driving Forces Of Academic Integrity: A Survey Of Communication Disorder Students, Mary Ellen Huston
The Driving Forces Of Academic Integrity: A Survey Of Communication Disorder Students, Mary Ellen Huston
Theses and Dissertations
Academic dishonesty has been a pervasive problem in universities for decades, however, there has been limited research linking allied health students to specific cheating behaviors. For students studying to enter allied health fields, academic dishonesty is problematic as the health and safety of their clients is at risk. To date, there has been no research focused on the academic integrity of students enrolled in programs leading to a career in speech language pathology. This quantitative study explored the theories of reasoned action, neutralization, and motivation as they relate to academic dishonesty among SLP students. The study combined a slightly modified …

Ms. Pearl Irma Young: "Raising Hell" For Women In Stem Fields And Women At Nasa, 1914 - 1968, Caitlin Milera
Theses and Dissertations
Women are underrepresented in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields and at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Women’s underrepresentation in these fields is largely due to the countless barriers they face at K-12 levels, in higher education environments, and in the workforce. This historical analysis explored the academic and professional journey of a woman who persisted through these systemic and structural barriers, Ms. Pearl Irma Young.Through this research, I examined Ms. Young’s experiences in higher education, at the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA), and at NASA. To do so required robust data collection of archival resources, …
Mosquito Fauna And Prevalence Of Avian Malaria In The Turtle Mountains, North Dakota, Kelsey J. Morin
Mosquito Fauna And Prevalence Of Avian Malaria In The Turtle Mountains, North Dakota, Kelsey J. Morin
Theses and Dissertations
Avian malaria is a disease caused by intracellular parasites transmitted by mosquitoes and is detrimental to individual birds and their populations. Although it is sub-lethal in most instances, avian malaria can result in anemia, lower fertility, and reduced migration ability. The Turtle Mountains is a unique ecoregion in North Dakota and provides habitat for various bird and mosquito species that differ from other parts of the state. Previous research has defined the mosquito fauna and occurrence of avian malaria in the Red River Valley region of eastern North Dakota and Northwest Minnesota; however, no research has been conducted in the …
The Key Actions Of School Leaders That Contribute To Effective Implementation Of Restorative Practice, Amy L. Starzecki
The Key Actions Of School Leaders That Contribute To Effective Implementation Of Restorative Practice, Amy L. Starzecki
Theses and Dissertations
A growing number of students are faced with significant social, emotional, and behavioral needs that translate into a variety of problem behaviors in schools. These behaviors often result in suspension or expulsion. Exclusionary discipline practices such as suspension and expulsion negatively impact student outcomes and achievement. Additionally, these practices are often disproportionately applied to specific student populations (i.e., students of color, students with disabilities, and boys). Schools across the United States are looking for alternatives to exclusionary discipline practices that remove students from classroom instruction. Restorative practice can be an alternative to traditional punitive discipline approaches by promoting strong interpersonal …

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journeys Curriculum Series Longitudinal Effects On Grade 4 Student Reading Scores, Daniel Warcken
Theses and Dissertations
Within the last 100 years, the number of school districts in America has dropped by as much as 90% (Murdock, 2012), from 117,108 in 1939 to 13,452 in 2019 (National Center for Education Statistics [NCES], 2020). Funding and how to provide educational equity, equality, and justice for all is a critical conversation. According to the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) (2018), 1.94% of the state’s $1.448 billion cumulative K-12 expenditures are associated with instructional media related to academic aids such as textbooks.
The purpose of this quantitative study was to identify if the major educational publishing company Houghton …
