Parent–Child Leisure And Parent Affect: The Role Of Family Structure, Camilla Hodge, Jocelyn Wikle

This study evaluates differences in parent–child leisure and parent affect across single- and two-parent families. The Ecology of Family Experiences framework suggests contextual factors such as family structure and the novelty of the activity environment contribute to heterogeneity in how parents experience leisure, partly because constraints may differ across family structures. Using a large, nationally representative data sample of parents from the American Time Use Survey (N = 78,353), this study shows single-parents experience leisure deficits compared to other parents, and leisure deficits are greatest in home-based leisure. Additionally, using a subsample (N = 16,214), we found that at-home leisure …

The event-driven model (EDM) is an emerging concept in human behavioural research, and understanding how EDMs can promote theory development remains a fundamental quest of predictive science. Traditionally, researchers have heavily depended upon theory confirmation and the inclusion of mediating constructs to clarify uncertainty associated with plausible events (e.g. political, socio-economic, technological, environmental). Does formal IT governance encourage innovation in the traditional domains of the IT function at the expense of new forms of “digital” innovation? We report on a study of 158 IT managers and leaders to understand the conditions under which transformational IT leadership can drive innovation in traditional forms of IT, as well as in the emerging “digital” domain. We find that highly formal IT governance practices can reduce ability of transformational IT managers and leaders to innovate in both domains, and this effect is greater for digital innovation. We consider rotationally driven nonlinear polymeric fiber jet, whose centerline is in an inclined plane, in the presence of gravity force. An empirical viscosity model is used for the polymeric fluid flow to investigate properties of the rotating inclined polymeric fiber jet. The aim of the study is to understand properties of such inclined fiber jet shape, which can be due to orientation change of an orifice in a rotating spinneret that generates such jet. The nEDM experiment at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) aims to increase
experimental sensitivity to hadronic CP violation by nearly two orders of magnitude.To do that the nEDMSNS experiment requires an extremely uniform magnetic field to maintain ³He polarization during transit to the measurement cell. The Magnetic Shield Enclosure (MSE) coil provides the required field. However, the superconducting shield distorts the MSE field.

The primary goal of this bioarchaeology dissertation research is to investigate the relationship between evidence of social identity and indicators of biological stress in the Green River region of Kentucky during the Late Archaic period (5,000-3,000 BP). Utilizing a biocultural perspective, I examine the ways that aspects of identity and social organization are embodied through the experience of biological stress. This research explores how social differences influence the patterning of osteological stress markers in an Archaic population while problematizing categories of difference that are often naturalized in bioarchaeology, such as gender or age cohorts. Obstetric and maternity health services are being rapidly eliminated in the rural United States, making maternal care more difficult to access and causing negative birth outcomes. Service closures have a magnified impact in Appalachia due to histories of systemic regional and state policy practices which devalue the lives of people living rural areas, local economic marginalization, geographic barriers, and insufficient health infrastructures. This research investigates how women living in rural Appalachia navigate pregnancy and birth amidst constant care closures. The purpose of this study was to measure to what extent an experimental method of teaching argument incorporating elements from both Toulmin’s (2004) structural approach and Walton’s (2013) dialectical approach effects first-year college students’ ability to write strong arguments. This experimental instruction used critical questioning as a strategy in building a strong argument, incorporating alternative viewpoints, and creating a dialogue between claims and counterclaims, backed logically by verifiable evidence from reliable sources.

Prior research assumes that high-status actors have greater organizational influence than lower-status ones, that is, it is easier for the former to get their ideas and initiatives adopted by the organization than it is for the latter. Drawing from the literature on ideology, we posit that the status-influence link is contingent on actors’ ideological position. Specifically, status confers organizational influence to the degree that the focal actor is ideologically mainstream. The more an actor’s ideology deviates from the mainstream the less will her status translate into increased organizational influence. We find support for this hypothesis using data on the work …

Thai Sentence Segmentation Using Large Language Models, Narongkorn Panitsrisit

Thai sentence segmentation has been on the topic of interest among Thai NLP communities. However, not much literature has explored the use of transformer-based large language models to tackle the issue. We conduct three experiments on the LST20 corpus, including (1) fine-tuning WangchanBERTa, a large language model pre-trained on Thai, across different classification tasks, (2) joint learning for clause and sentence segmentation, and (3) cross-lingual transfer using the multilingual model XLM-RoBERTa. Our findings show that WangchanBERTa outperforms other models in Thai sentence segmentation, and fine-tuning it with token and contextual information further improves its performance. The objective of this research was to study the brand image of Nike products among consumer generation Z in Thailand. Based on the quantitative research approach, two hundred of Nike's current consumers aged between 18 to 25 years old in Thailand, who had purchased/owned Nike’s products before, were asked to complete an online questionnaire to study the brand image. Through a textual analysis of the popular Thai film Tom Yum Goong (2005), this paper explores how the director, Prachya Pinkaew, expresses his own nationalistic and localistic argument by creating a myth of a hero that uses Muay Thai to defeat the villains in order to save his elephant, which symbolizes (as the allegory of) Thailand. งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการศึกษากลวิธีการแปลอนุประโยครูปกริยาขยายปัจจุบันในนวนิยายเรื่อง สัตว์ สยอง โลก แปลโดย ธิดา ผลิตผลการพิมพ์ จากต้นฉบับเรื่อง Zoo ของ James Patterson และ Michael Ledwidge ใน 3 ประเด็น คือ 1) หน้าที่ของรูปภาษาปลายทางเมื่อเทียบกับหน้าที่ของรูปภาษาต้นทาง 2) ประเภทของหน่วยทางวากยสัมพันธ์ของรูปภาษาปลายทางเมื่อเทียบกับหน้าที่ของรูปภาษาต้นทาง และ 3) กลวิธีการแปล กลุ่มตัวอย่างทั้งหมดมีจำนวน 140 ประโยค แบ่งออกเป็น 3 ประเภทตามแนวคิดการอธิบายความของอนุประโยค (clause expansion) ของ Halliday & Matthiessen (2014) ได้แก่ การลงความ (elaboration) 60 ประโยค การเสริมความ (extension) 40 ประโยค และการปรุงความ (enhancement) 40 ประโยค ทั้งนี้ ผู้วิจัยใช้หลักวากยสัมพันธ์ของอมรา ประสิทธิ์รัฐสินธุ์ (2554) และกิ่งกาญจน์ เทพกาญจนา (2549) การเปลี่ยนแปลงรูปภาษาของแคตฟอร์ด (1965) และกลวิธีการแปลอนุประโยครูปกริยาขยายของวิมลตรี แก้วประชุม (2559) เป็นกรอบในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ จากการศึกษาประเด็นทั้ง 3 ประเด็นพบว่า 1) รูปภาษาปลายทางมีหน้าที่เพิ่มขึ้นมาจากหน้าที่ของรูปภาษาต้นทาง เนื่องจากผู้แปลปรับบทแปลโดยการเปลี่ยนระดับ (level shift) และการเปลี่ยนประเภท (category shift) ชนิดการเปลี่ยนหน่วย (unit shift) และการเปลี่ยนโครงสร้าง (structure shift) นอกจากนี้ รูปภาษาปลายทางที่ใช้แปลอนุประโยครูปกริยาขยายปัจจุบันทั้งสามประเภทยังแตกต่างกัน รูปภาษาปลายทางที่ใช้แปลอนุประโยครูปกริยาขยายปัจจุบันประเภทการลงความมีทั้งสิ้น 8 หน้าที่ เรียงลำดับจากอัตราความถี่สูงสุดไปยังอัตราความถี่ต่ำสุด ได้แก่ 1) ลงความอนุประโยคตั้งต้นโดยให้ข้อมูลเพิ่มเติมเกี่ยวกับเรื่องเดิม พบร้อยละ 23.33 2) ลงความคำนามแบบจำกัดความ พบร้อยละ 20 3) เป็นภาคแสดงในประโยคกริยาเรียง พบร้อยละ …

สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อแปลตัวบทสุนทรพจน์แรกของประธานาธิบดีโจ ไบเดนจากภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทย ผู้วิจัยจึงศึกษาแนวทางการถ่ายทอดวัจนลีลาของตัวบทต้นฉบับสู่ตัวบทฉบับแปลโดยที่ยังคงสื่อความหมายและเนื้อหาไว้ได้อย่างครบถ้วนสมบูรณ์ โดยต้องอาศัยแนวทางการวิเคราะห์ตัวบทของคริสติอาเน นอร์ด (Christiane Nord) ทฤษฎีการแปลแบบสื่อความหมาย (Communicative Translation) ของปีเตอร์ นิวมาร์ก (Peter Newmark) และแนวคิดการแปลวัจนลีลาของจีน โบแอส-เบเออร์ (Jean Boase-Beier) มาใช้เพื่อถ่ายทอดตัวบทสุนทรพจน์แรกที่คงรูปแบบวัจนลีลาและวาทศิลป์ไว้ได้อย่างถูกต้องและครบถ้วนสมบูรณ์ ผลการวิจัยพบว่าทฤษฎีต่าง ๆ ที่ผู้วิจัยเลือกมาใช้สามารถตอบโจทย์และมีหลักการแปลที่เป็นไปในทิศทางเดียวกันทั้งบทแปล นั่นคือ บทสุนทรพจน์ที่เก็บลักษณะของวัจนลีลาไว้ได้อย่างครบถ้วน มีการใช้เครื่องมือทางวรรณศิลป์และวาทศิลป์ต่าง ๆ ที่ตรงตามความหมายที่ต้องการจะสื่อ ตลอดจนรักษารายละเอียดเกี่ยวกับบุคคล สถานที่ และเหตุการณ์สำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์ต่าง ๆ ไว้ได้

อัตลักษณ์ร่วมและแรงจูงใจในการปฏิบัติงานของอาสาสมัครแรงงาน: กรณีศึกษา อาสาสมัครแรงงานจังหวัดสมุทรปราการ, ภัณฑิรา หนูในน้ำ

การวิจัยนี้ เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพที่มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาอัตลักษณ์ร่วม (Collective Identity) ศึกษาแรงจูงใจในการปฏิบัติงาน และศึกษาปัญหาอุปสรรคในการปฏิบัติงานของอาสาสมัครแรงงานจังหวัดสมุทรปราการ โดยเก็บข้อมูลด้วยเทคนิคการวิจัยเอกสาร และเทคนิคการสัมภาษณ์แบบเจาะลึกอาสาสมัครแรงงานจังหวัดสมุทรปราการ จำนวน 12 คน และนำข้อมูลมาวิเคราะห์เชิงเนื้อหา ผลการวิจัยพบว่าปัจจัยด้านอายุ ปัจจัยด้านอาชีพ ปัจจัยด้านรูปแบบการใช้ชีวิต (Lifestyle) และปัจจัยด้านการเป็นคนในพื้นที่ เป็นอัตลักษณ์ร่วมที่โดดเด่นของอาสาสมัครแรงงาน โดยแรงจูงใจในการเป็นอาสาสมัครแรงงาน 3 อันดับสูงสุด คือ 1) ความต้องการช่วยเหลือผู้อื่น ต้องการทำประโยชน์เพื่อสังคม 2) ความต้องการทำงานร่วมกับผู้อื่น ต้องการเป็นที่รู้จักของผู้คนมากขึ้น และ 3) ความต้องการสร้างความภาคภูมิใจในตนเอง ขณะที่ปัญหาและอุปสรรคในการปฏิบัติงานเกิดจากสาเหตุหลายปัจจัยที่เกี่ยวข้องกับทั้งหน่วยงานภาครัฐและอาสาสมัครแรงงาน เช่น อาสาสมัครแรงงานต้องการให้มีการจัดอบรมเพิ่มพูนความรู้มากขึ้น หน่วยงานไม่มีสวัสดิการการทำงานมอบให้อาสาสมัครแรงงาน จำนวนอาสาสมัครแรงงานไม่เพียงพอในการขับเคลื่อนภารกิจ เป็นต้น ดังนั้น ผู้วิจัยจึงมีข้อเสนอแนะเชิงนโยบายต่อหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้อง ซึ่งทำหน้าที่กำกับดูแลการทำงานของอาสาสมัครแรงงาน อาทิ การจัดอบรมความรู้ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการขับเคลื่อนภารกิจให้แก่อาสาสมัครแรงงานเป็นประจำ การเพิ่มสวัสดิการการทำงานอย่างค่าเดินทางในการลงพื้นที่ รวมถึงการมอบรางวัลในโอกาสต่าง ๆ เพื่อเป็นการเพิ่มแรงจูงใจให้อาสาสมัครแรงงานตั้งใจปฏิบัติงานอย่างเต็มศักยภาพและทำงานให้กับกระทรวงแรงงานต่อไป
