Who We Are In The World: An Investigation Into Psychology And Worldview, Zachary Swanson
Who We Are In The World: An Investigation Into Psychology And Worldview, Zachary Swanson
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
At the heart of Psychology is the search for understanding — understanding ourselves, understanding others, and understanding our places in the world. At one point or another a person comes to ask themselves fundamental questions about human life, like “Who am I?”, “Why am I here?” and “What will happen to me?” Although these questions are not usually asked out loud, these attempts to make meaning of our lives serve as a reference for our worldviews. In part 1, I take a theory-driven approach to address the questions “What is a worldview?”, and “How is worldview studied psychologically?” In part …
Bird Use Of Avocado Farms And Intact Forest In The Dominican Republic, Avery Young
Bird Use Of Avocado Farms And Intact Forest In The Dominican Republic, Avery Young
Masters Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
The Dominican Republic, a conservation priority area due to high rates of bird endemism and overwintering Neotropical migrant habitats, is seeing an increase of avocado farms and a subsequent forest loss. We conducted point-count bird surveys to determine how avian species richness and diversity differ between avocado farms and intact forest, as well as how vegetation differences between farms and forests could impact bird use. We found that vegetation structure varied significantly between farm and forest sites, but that overall bird diversity and migrant diversity did not. However, we found that endemic bird species showed higher species richness and diversity …

Cytochrome C: A Potential Early Biomarker Of Diabetic Retinopathy, Ileana G. Villarreal
Theses and Dissertations
Diabetic retinopathy is an ocular disease which appears in patients who experience progression of diabetes mellitus over a continuous period. Oftentimes, patients go undiagnosed due to the fact that there is no way to determine when the exact moment a patient develops diabetic retinopathy. Ophthalmologists and other eye specialists diagnose a patient with diabetic retinopathy once the patient begins to show progressed symptoms of the disease. Various experiments have been previously performed to increase our knowledge of the connection of diabetic retinopathy and early biomarkers of the disease. Several studies have determined the effects of diabetic retinopathy and apoptosis with …
Towards Sustainable Cities: Life Cycle Cost Analysis Of The Construction Of A Novel Wastewater Management System, Bibhas B. Tanmoy
Towards Sustainable Cities: Life Cycle Cost Analysis Of The Construction Of A Novel Wastewater Management System, Bibhas B. Tanmoy
Theses and Dissertations
Wastage of water is one of the most common environmental issues in the modern era. However, if this level of usage can be controlled, or recirculated properly, the wastage can be lowered down to a very minimum. In the conventional residential plumbing system, blackwater and greywater gets mixed and goes through the same sewage pipe. This mixture turns the whole wastewater amount into blackwater, which requires complex treatment before discharge. Greywater on the other hand can be discharged to waterbodies requiring almost zero treatment. In this study, a new wastewater management method is proposed where the plumbing system is split …
