We collected a single specimen of Rattus rattus (Roof Rat) in Highland County, VA, a previously unknown locality for the species. We collected ecto- and endoparasites, including the louse Polyplax spinulosa, the tick Dermacentor variabilis (American Dog Tick), and the nematode Aspicularis americana. which we archived along with the host voucher specimen. Sequencing of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene confirmed the rodent species identification based on comparisons to R. rattus sequences available in the GenBank database. Herein we review specimen records of Roof Rats and Rattus norvegicus (Brown Rat). Both species have a deep history in Virginia, but Roof Rats …

A Survey On Distributed Reinforcement Learning, Maroning Useng, Suleiman Abdulrahman
Mesopotamian Journal of Big Data
In many settings, reinforcement learning (RL) has proven to be an effective tool for tackling difficult decision-making challenges. Traditional RL algorithms, on the other hand, frequently hit walls when confronted with issues of a sufficiently great scale or complexity. Distributed reinforcement learning (DRL) is a new area of study that hopes to circumvent these restrictions by dividing the learning workload among several computers. In this work, we offer a thorough overview of DRL, discussing its history, difficulties, applications, evaluation, scalability, and outstanding issues. We classify DRL approaches and frameworks and examine their similarities and differences. We also highlight the difficulties …
Hands That Grab And Tongues That Say: Understanding Animal Narrators And Protagonists, Sophie Ryan
Hands That Grab And Tongues That Say: Understanding Animal Narrators And Protagonists, Sophie Ryan
Senior Independent Study Theses
Whether through owning a pet or merely seeing a squirrel outside the window, we cannot avoid encountering the non-human animal inhabitants of the world around us. This project considers how animals are represented as narrators and protagonists in predominantly 21st-century literature. Although extensive research in the fields of animal studies and human-animal studies has explored literary non-human animal characters, few have asked questions about the narratological construction of animal narrators and protagonists. This project uses the lenses of narratology and ecocriticism to discuss six texts: Black Beauty by Anna Sewell, The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein, …

Monitoring programs can help understand coral disease dynamics. Here, we present results from a national program in the Dominican Republic (DR) aimed at evaluating coral diseases 3 times a year following a nested spatial design. Prevalence of coral diseases in DR varied from sites to regions, suggesting that disease dynamics can be driven by local processes and/or across larger spatial scales. Three diseases were common: Dark Spot (DSD), Yellow Band (YBD) and Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD). DSD and YBD were more prevalent across the western coast (north and south), whereas SCTLD was restricted for the study period to …

Phylogenetic Origins And Age-Based Proportions Of Malacho (Elops Smithi) Relative To Ladyfish (Elops Saurus): Species On The Move In The Western Gulf Of Mexico, Damon Williford, Nicolette S. Beeken, Joel Anderson, Polly Hajovsky, Roberta Weixelman
Gulf and Caribbean Research
Two species of ladyfish occur in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM), Elops saurus and Elops smithi, that are morphologically indistinguishable except for vertebral counts but can also be identified by mitochondrial DNA haplotypes. Here we expand on previous work, most of which has occurred in Florida, and examine the demography, phylogenetics, geographic distribution, and age—structure of ladyfishes in Texas estuaries. Fishery—independent gill net data demonstrated that ladyfishes increase in abundance from north to south along the Texas coast. The abundance of ladyfishes also increased in Texas waters from 1982–2021, which coincides with recent trends of warmer winters. Genetic data …

Distribution, Maturity, Age And Growth Of Gray Snapper (Lutjanus Griseus) In The Northwestern Gulf Of Mexico, Joel Anderson, Dusty Mcdonald, Ethan Getz, Roberta Weixelman, Faye Grubbs, Jason Ferguson
Gulf and Caribbean Research
Recent population expansion of Gray Snapper, Lutjanus griseus, in the northern Gulf of Mexico is driving increasing catch in the recreational fishery in Texas. We assessed long—term trends in distribution and abundance of Gray Snapper in Texas using fishery—dependent and fishery—independent data collected by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in the years 1980 — 2019. Boosted regression trees (BRT) were used to evaluate factors (water quality, season, depth, bay and inlet distance) driving Gray Snapper presence in fishery—independent samples of juveniles (seines) and subadults (gill nets) found in estuaries. Estuarine Gray Snapper were subsequently sampled from gill nets, …

Numerical Solution Of A Singularly Perturbed Fredholm Integro Differential Equation With Robin Boundary Condition, Muhammet Enes Durmaz, Gabi̇l Ami̇rali̇, Mustafa Kudu
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we deal with singularly perturbed Fredholm integro differential equation (SPFIDE) with mixed boundary conditions. By using interpolating quadrature rules and exponential basis function, fitted second order difference scheme has been constructed on a Shishkin mesh. The stability and convergence of the difference scheme have been analyzed in the discrete maximum norm. Some numerical examples have been solved and numerical outcomes are obtained.

Uniformly Convergent Finite Difference Method For Reaction-Diffusion Type Third Order Singularly Perturbed Delay Differential Equation, Rajendran Mahendran, Veerasamy Subburayan
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
A class of third order reaction-diffusion type singularly perturbed ordinary delay differential equations is considered in this article. A fitted finite difference method on Shishkin mesh is suggested to solve the problem. Moreover, we present a class of nonlinear problems. An error estimation is obtained based on the maximum norm and it is of almost first order convergence. Numerical results are given to support theoretical claims.

Mathematical Analysis Of Local And Global Dynamics Of A New Epidemic Model, Sümeyye Çakan
Mathematical Analysis Of Local And Global Dynamics Of A New Epidemic Model, Sümeyye Çakan
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we construct a new $SEIR$ epidemic model reflecting the spread of infectious diseases. After calculating basic reproduction number $% \mathcal{R}_{0}$ by the next generation matrix method, we examine the stability of the model. The model exhibits threshold behavior according to whether the basic reproduction number $\mathcal{R}_{0}$ is greater than unity or not. By using well-known Routh-Hurwitz criteria, we deal with local asymptotic stability of equilibrium points of the model according to $% \mathcal{R}_{0}.$ Also, we present a mathematical analysis for the global dynamics in the equilibrium points of this model using LaSalle's Invariance Principle associated with Lyapunov …

Existence And Transportation Inequalities For Fractional Stochastic Differential Equations, Abdelghani Ouahab, Mustapha Belabbas, Johnny Henderson, Fethi Souna
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this work, we establish the existence and uniqueness of solutions for a fractional stochastic differential equation driven by countably many Brownian motions on bounded and unbounded intervals. Also, we study the continuous dependence of solutions on initial data. Finally, we establish the transportation quadratic cost inequality for some classes of fractional stochastic equations and continuous dependence of solutions with respect Wasserstein distance.

On The Inclusion Properties For $\Vartheta $-Spirallike Functions Involving Both Mittag-Leffler And Wright Function, Şahsene Altinkaya
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
By making use of the both Mittag-Leffler and Wright function, we establish a new subfamily of the class $S_{\vartheta }$ of $\vartheta $-spirallike functions. The main object of the paper is to provide sufficient conditions for a function to be in this newly established class and to discuss subordination outcomes.

Rough Approximations Based On Different Topologies Via Ideals, Ayşegül Çaksu Güler, Esra Dalan Yildirim, Oya Özbakir
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we generalize the notations of rough sets based on the topological space. Firstly, we produce various topologies by using the concept of ideal, $C_j$-neighbourhoods and $P_j$-neighbourhoods. When we compare these topologies with previous topologies, we see that these topologies are more general. Then we introduce new methods to find the approximations by using these generated topologies. When we compare these methods with the previous methods, we see that these methods are more accurate.
Maximising The Number Of Connected Induced Subgraphs Of Unicyclic Graphs, Audace A V Dossou Olory
Maximising The Number Of Connected Induced Subgraphs Of Unicyclic Graphs, Audace A V Dossou Olory
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
Denote by $\mathcal{G}(n,c,g,k)$ the set of all connected graphs of order $n$, having $c$ cycles, girth $g$, and $k$ pendant vertices. In this paper, we give a partial characterisation of the structure of those graphs in $\mathcal{G}(n,c,g,k)$ maximising the number of connected induced subgraphs. For the special case where $c=1$, we find a complete characterisation of all maximal unicyclic graphs. We also derive a precise formula for the corresponding maximum number given the following parameters: (1) order, girth, and number of pendant vertices; (2) order and girth; (3) order.

On The Application Of Euler's Method To Linear Integro Differential Equations And Comparison With Existing Methods, Deni̇z Elmaci, Nurcan Baykuş Savaşaneri̇l, Fadi̇me Dal, Mehmet Sezer
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this study, a collocation method using Euler method for solving systems of linear integro-differential equations is presented. Thesolution process is illustrated and various physically relevant results are obtained. Comparison of the obtained results with exactsolutions and solutions obtained by other methods show that the proposed method is an effective and highly promising for linear integro-differential equation systems. All of numerical calculations have been made on a computer using a program written in Matlab.

Food Neophobia Across The Life Course: Pooling Data From Five National Cross-Sectional Surveys In Ireland, Daniel Hazley, Mairead Stack, Janette Walton, Breige A. Mcnulty, John Kearney
Articles
Food neophobia describes a reluctance to eat novel foods. Levels of food neophobia vary throughout life and are thought to peak in childhood. However, the trajectory of food neophobia across the life course is not fully clear. Using data from five national cross-sectional surveys in Ireland we explored levels of food neophobia in males and females aged 1–87 years. In addition, we assessed the influence of sociodemographic factors, breastfeeding and parental food neophobia on food neophobia. Food neophobia was measured using the Food Neophobia Scale in adults and adolescents and with the Children's Eating Behaviour Questionnaire in preschool and school …

A Discussion On The Existence And Uniqueness Analysis For The Coupled Two-Term Fractional Differential Equations, Sachin Kumar Verma, Ramesh Kumar Vats, Avadhesh Kumar, Velusamy Vijayakumar, Anurag Shukla
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
This paper mainly concentrates on the study of a new boundary value problem of coupled nonlinear two-term fractional differential system. We make use of the theories on fractional calculus and fixed point approach to derive the existence and uniqueness results of the considered two-term fractional systems. To confirm the application of the stated outcomes, two examples are provided.
On Stability And Oscillation Of Fractional Differential Equations With A Distributed Delay, Limei Feng, Shurong Sun
On Stability And Oscillation Of Fractional Differential Equations With A Distributed Delay, Limei Feng, Shurong Sun
Turkish Journal of Mathematics
In this paper, we study the stability and oscillation of fractional differential equations \begin{equation*} ^cD^\alpha x(t)+ax(t)+\int_0^1x(s+[t-1])dR(s)=0. \end{equation*} We discretize the fractional differential equation by variation of constant formula and semigroup property of Mittag-Leffler function, and get the difference equation corresponding to the integer points. From the equivalence analogy of qualitative properties between the difference equations and the original fractional differential equations, the necessary and sufficient conditions of oscillation, stability and exponential stability of the equations are obtained.
