Identifying And Analysing Coastal Landforms In Ar Rāyis, Saudi Arabia: Insights From Sentinel Data And Field Studies, Omar A. Alharbi

Journal of King Abdulaziz University: Marine Science

This study examines the coastal geomorphology of the Ar Rāyis coastal zone on the eastern Red Sea coastal plain, along with the processes underpinning this geomorphology. Coastal areas feature various landforms, including beaches, intertidal flats, khawrs (lagoons), sand spits, sand dunes, sabkhas (salt marshes), coral reefs, wadis, raised coral reef terraces, and alluvial terraces. These landform features suggest rapid alterations in coastal conditions. Furthermore, the analysis of Sentinel-2B data via digital processing reveals a range of natural land covers, with field investigations confirming the results. The supervised classification methods assisted in distinguishing between regions of deep and shallow water, while …

Jurnal Nasional Kesehatan Lingkungan Global

Access to clean water remains a global challenge. According to the World Health Organization, in 2020 unsafe water and poor sanitation contributed to approximately 485,000 deaths annually due to diarrhea; one of the leading causes of child mortality in low- and middle-income countries. In Indonesia, UNICEF reported that nearly 70% of household drinking water sources are contaminated with fecal matter, increasing the risk of diarrhea, particularly among children under five. This study aims to analyze the association between the use of piped drinking water and the incidence of diarrhea among children under five in Indonesia. A cross-sectional study design was …

High quality anthropometric measurements are important for nutritional assessment in children. In Indonesia, anthropometric measurement of children performed by caders in child center called posyandu as a child growth monitoring. However error measurements are found, especially on length or height measurement of children affecting presision and accuracy of data. This will lead to misinterpretation of child nutrition status. Education and training for cadres using media are important to improve their knowledge and skill related to anthropometric measurements. This study aimed to assess the effect of anthropometry measurement training using videos on Cadre’s knowledge. This study used one group pre-post test …

Tell Me A Story About Home: Black Masculinity Through The Lens Of Place, Relationships, And Discourse In The Marvel Cinematic Universe, Curtis Ladrillo Chamblee

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

ABSTRACT The following dissertation explores the construction of Black masculinity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) through a rhetorical analysis of three central figures: Sam Wilson, Black Panther (both T’Challa and Shuri) , and Luke Cage. Drawing from theoretical frameworks including Jackson’s (2006) concept of scripting, Griaule’s (1978) levels of the word, Gates’s (2018) theory of the double negative, and rhetorical fractals (Bloomfield & Chamblee, 2023), this project examines how Black masculinity is shaped through place, discourse, and relationships across rural, militarized, imagined, metaphysical, and urban environments. Each chapter foregrounds a distinct geography to investigate how the spatial, cultural, and …

Quantum Analysis Of Protein–Ligand Binding By Integrating Structural Resolution, Sequence Homology, And Ligand Properties, Don Roosan, Samira Samrose, Rubayat Khan, Saif Nirzhor, Brian Provencher

Computer and Data Science Faculty Publications

Predicting protein–ligand binding affinity is a fundamental challenge in computational biology and drug discovery, complicated by diverse factors including protein sequence variability, ligand chemical diversity, and structural resolution. Here, we present an integrative study that combines classical machine learning and quantum-enhanced modeling to investigate how crystal structure resolution, sequence similarity, and ligand properties jointly influence binding affinity. Using a curated “refined” dataset from PDBbind and an expanded general dataset, we first conduct correlation and regression analyses to quantify the relationships among binding affinity, ligand descriptors (e.g., molecular weight, logP), and protein structural metrics (resolution, R-factor). We observe moderate positive correlations …

Effects Of Stressor Exposure And Locus Coeruleus Opioid Signaling On Coping And Anxiety-Like Behavior In Rats, John Arthur Tkaczynski

Theses and Dissertations

Stress is a physiological state of altered neuroendocrine signaling and heightened indices of behavioral vigilance and arousal in response to threatening stimuli. This project aimed to investigate the adaptations to stress that occur in the noradrenergic locus coeruleus (LC) and how these changes affect stress coping behavior. We began by investigating how adolescent restraint and predator odor stress affects coping when presented with a secondary noxious stimulus in the defensive shock probe burying task one week following stressor exposure, finding that stressed male rats demonstrate a more active coping response and stressed female rats demonstrate a more passive coping response, …

Cddo-Me Attenuates Fibroblast And Macrophage Activation In Limited Cutaneous Systemic Sclerosis, Heetaek Yang, Emily A. Morris, Chen-Yu Wang, Nicole M. Orzechowski, Michael Whitfield, Patricia Pioli

Dartmouth College Master’s Theses

Abstract

Systemic Sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease characterized by multiple-organ involvement and notably by fibrosis. Current therapies for SSc focus on symptom managements and treating specific organ related complications. However, heterogeneous nature of the disease further complicates treatment responses and hinders the development of new therapies. Therefore, there is a critical unmet need for the development of patient-specific therapeutics.

The objectives of this thesis were: (1) to evaluate the therapeutic potential of Bardoxolone Methyl (CDDO-Me) in both SSc fibroblasts and SSc macrophages. To achieve these goals, I utilized both wet-lab analysis tools and computational analysis.

As part of …

Development And Experimental Validation Of A Non-Invasive Blood Group Detection System, Nurath K. Nurudini Jun 2025

Development And Experimental Validation Of A Non-Invasive Blood Group Detection System, Nurath K. Nurudini

Tanzania Journal of Engineering and Technology (TJET)

An individual's blood group consists of red blood cell antigens whose composition is determined by protein presence, antigen structure, and gene series. Persons aged above six months have significant anti-A and/or anti-B in their serum. During transplantation and transfusion, ABO blood group identification is the most essential factor. The conventional method involves drawing blood samples from patients, and the blood group is determined based on the antigen-antibody reaction. This method consists of adding chemical reagents. However, this requires time of operation, and throughput analysis is high, and the process is also challenging to interpret. Accurate and rapid identification of blood …

The Effect Of Blue Light Filter Lens Glasses On The Occurrence Of Asthenopia Symptoms In Visual Display Terminal Users, Arif Hening Mustikaningrum, Dewi Sumaryani Soemarko, Indah Suci Widyahening

Occupational and Environmental Medicine Journal of Indonesia

The widespread use of Visual Display Terminals (VDTs) is associated with visual and musculoskeletal complaints, particularly Asthenopia, which may reduce productivity. A 32-year-old female financial worker presented with eye discomfort, including sore eyes, blurred vision, dizziness, and twitching on her left temple, particularly during extended computer use. The symptoms were relieved with rest. Most VDTs now use Light Emitting Diodes, which emit more blue light than LCDs and may cause eye fatigue and disrupt sleep. Currently, blue light filter lenses are available in the market, however, further study of existing scientific publications is necessary to ensure the effectiveness of blue …
