The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) put forth institutional requirements to implement healthcare disparity education in resident and fellow curricula in an effort to decrease these inequities. Healthcare disparities stem from many different factors. These may include access to care, insurance status, socioeconomic status, health literacy, language barriers, and the way healthcare systems function. These factors may have interactions that lead to poor health outcomes. Disability is extremely common in the United States with 26% of adults identifying as having some type of disability. Oftentimes, people with disabilities need to access health care services frequently in order to receive adequate care and support. However, despite this need, medical students receive limited, if any, education about people with disabilities and how to appropriately provide medical care and interact with them. Microaggressions are pervasive throughout society, including in healthcare and academic institutions. They are often unconscious but accumulate over time, and they negatively impact the recipients' productivity and achievement by creating a sense of inadequacy as well as a lack of belonging. We outline several evidence-based strategies and teaching frameworks that institutions and training programs can adopt to reduce the prevalence and impact of microaggressions against trainees from historically marginalized groups, and that can promote psychological safety for everyone.

Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome is a rare genetic disorder that typically presents as a triad of symptoms consisting of venous malformations (varicosities), capillary malformations (port-wine stain), and limb overgrowth. We followed a 23-year-old African American male with a past medical history of peripheral vascular disease, who was visiting the dermatology clinic for a persistent skin lesion on his thigh. During physical examinations, we noted a subtle port-wine stain on his right leg, right leg hypertrophy, and peripheral vascular disease. Cutaneous abscesses are collections of pus resulting from skin and soft tissue bacterial infections. They clinically exhibit the four cardinal inflammatory signs of pain, warmth, swelling, and erythema. In patients with darkly pigmented skin, classically-associated erythema may be challenging to appreciate and can lead to missed or delayed diagnosis. We compare abscess presentations in different skin types. Recognition of varying presentations of cutaneous abscesses in diverse skin colors will help clinicians utilize additional clues to identify and diagnose this entity correctly.

Recent studies estimate that more than 8 million Americans have psoriasis. The prevalence of psoriasis in African Americans is 1.5% compared to 3.6% of Caucasians. Psoriasis is likely to be underdiagnosed among African Americans and other individuals with darker pigmented skin due to variations in clinical presentation in addition to disease distribution and severity. We present images of psoriasis vulgaris in a variety of Fitzpatrick skin types. Differences in the biology of skin pigmentation may explain the clinical masking of erythema in darker-skinned individuals. The article deals with the synthesis of effective algorithms for controlling a chemical reactor and developed a intelligent synergistic controller for a class of indefinite nonlinear dynamic systems. A synergetic control scheme is proposed for solving the control problem for nonlinear systems. Non-linear systems with configurations and parameters that change over time require a completely non-linear model and adaptive control scheme for a practical operating environment. This study analyzed the total factor productivity in dairy buffalo milk production in Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Specifically, it aimed to identify the factors that affect dairy buffalo milk production and analyze technical efficiency, scale efficiency, and technological change as sources of TFP growth. Panel data was established by gathering data from randomly selected dairy buffalo milk producers in Nueva Ecija for the years 2017 and 2020. The stochastic frontier analysis was applied to a Cobb-Douglas production function with an inefficiency effects model. It was found that the statistically significant factors of milk production were cows, forage areas, and dairy feeds. …

2,7-disubstituted silafluorenes and germafluorenes, originally designed for OLED applications, are a class of fluorescent dyes that have gained recent interest as probes for bioimaging and as biosensors to monitor cellular dynamics and interactions. Desirable biological probes absorb in the visible region, have high extinction coefficients, high quantum yield and excellent photostability. Here, their spectral properties are investigated under aqueous conditions for relevant biological applications. These molecules display intense blue fluorescence in the solid state and in solution, have high extinction coefficients, and exhibit appreciable solubility in aqueous solution. A questionnaire was used to garner the data, covering the participants’ demographic, consumers’ behavior, and meal preferences, as well as their knowledge of the benefit of sustainable packaging and the danger of migration of chemical substances into food from the food packaging. BACKGROUND: Increased understanding of adherence may facilitate optimal targeting of interventions.

OBJECTIVE: To utilize group-based trajectory modeling (GBTM) to understand longitudinal patterns of adherence and factors associated with non-adherence in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) newly-initiating once-/twice-daily oral disease-modifying therapy (DMT) (fingolimod, dimethyl fumarate, or teriflunomide).

METHODS: Commercial plan data were analyzed using proportion of days covered (PDC) to evaluate factors associated with non-adherence. GBTM clustered patient subgroups with similar longitudinal patterns of adherence measured by monthly PDC (≥80%) and multinomial logistic regression identified factors associated with adherence trajectory subgroups.

Objective: This study aimed to establish a new method for detecting furfurals in tea. Methods: A gas chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) method was established for the simultaneous determination of furfural, 5-methylfurfural, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and 2-Acetylfuran in tea. The sample pretreatment method and GC-MS/MS method were optimized. Furfural-D4was used as the internal standard. The sample was extracted by acetonitrile, treated and purified by QuEChERS method, and determined by GC-MS/MS multi reaction monitoring (MRM). Results: The four furfurals showed good linear relationship in the mass concentration range of 1.25~200.00 μg/L, with the correlation coefficient ≥0.999 0, and the detection limit (S/N …
