Coming Apart At The Screens: Canadian Video Relay Interpreters And Stress, Sabrina Chang, Deb Russell
Journal of Interpretation
This qualitative study addressed the concern of video relay service (VRS) interpreters experiencing stress, which can lead to burnout. In contrast to the relatively long history of VRS in the United States, the Canadian Deaf community gained access to VRS services only in 2016. Yet to date, there has been no Canadian research on the work environment of VRS sign language interpreters. For this study, Canadian interpreters were interviewed about their experiences working in a VRS setting and the associated stressors. The interviewed interpreters also had potential strategies and solutions to manage their stress effectively.
The goal of this pilot …

Redefining The Dimensions Of Spirituality And Pilgrimage In Religious Tourism: Iranian Pilgrimage Cities, Asghar Molaei
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
Pilgrimage is one of the ways to acquire spirituality in the Shiite sect, and the shrines of the Imams are places of pilgrimage full of spirituality. Spirituality in Islam is one of the mental states of human beings, which has a high position in perfection from Shiite thought. Pilgrimage, as an Islamic custom and ethical practice, through the pattern of pilgrimage in religious, devotional, and prayer spaces can create spirituality for pilgrims. In line with the principles of praying and celebrating the rituals of God, the holy shrines of the Ahl al-Bayt (AS) are important centres of interest in Iranian …

Exploring The Experiences Of Women On Muslim Pilgrimage: A Study Of Hazaratbal Shrine In Kashmir, Ab Qayoom Shah, Professor Aneesa Shafi
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
The aim of this study is to explore the experiences of women at Hazaratbal shrine in Kashmir also known as Madinut-ul-Sani (second Madina). In spite of growing interest of scholars in sacred tourism research, little efforts are made to examine female perception of holy shrine experiences. The authors collected data through interviews and participant observation of female pilgrims/visitors, at the shrine. The theoretical base of the study is the phenomenological work of Schultz. After the completion of analysis, five main categories of perceptions appeared which attract women visitors to Hazaratbal shrine namely prayer and worship, thanksgiving, healing, learning and heritage.

Exploring The Concept Of Muslim Friendly Tourism, Aini Khalida Muslim, Amran Harun
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
Most researchers face problems investigating Muslim-friendly destinations when they become confused with overlapping terms that seem to convey the same concepts, such as Islamic Tourism, Halal Tourism, and Muslim Friendly Tourism. This study discusses the concepts, purpose, target customers, destinations, products, and services to fill the gap in understanding the differences between the three terms from the perspective of Muslim and non-Muslim tourists. This study also applies a systematic literature review (SLR) method to filter and locate papers related to Muslim Friendly Tourism from 2015 to 2020. The analysis is based on the year the article was published, the publisher’s …

International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
This study aims to compare the impact of the Covid-19 Pandemic and Natural Disasters on the Hajj and Umrah industries. This pilgrimage substantially contributes to foreign exchange earnings; therefore, the negative potential caused by disasters must be a significant concern for policymakers in this sector. In recent years, religious-based tourism, especially the hajj and umrah (the out-of-season pilgrimage to Mecca), has experienced significant rise of demand worldwide. To explore the impact of various disasters on this industry, using the purposive sampling method, semi-structured interviews were conducted with travel agents in Bandung over the course of two months. ConLawNOW
This Article will describe two ways in which Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization has muddied the Supreme Court’s precedent on precedent. First, it will examine how the Court’s decision to overrule Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey undermines not only its substantive due process holding, but also its status as a precedent on precedent. Without Casey in place, Dobbs further elevates a weakened version of stare decisis that has been ascendant on the Court in recent decades, one which threatens to undermine legal stability in all areas of constitutional law. Second, the Article will examine the Dobbs majority’s …

The Papua Conflict: The Different Perspectives Of The Indonesian Government And International Communities—Review From The English School Theory, Mohamad Rosyidin, Andi Akhmad Basith Dir, Fendy Eko Wahyudi
Global: Jurnal Politik Internasional
The West Papuan issue has become a flashpoint of conflict between Indonesia and the international community. However, studies on this subject have never been concerned about the causal root of differences between Indonesia and the international community over the West Papuan issue. There has not been a theoretical account of how this issue is framed in international politics. Existing literature tends to overlook the fundamental narrative, that is, the contrasting view between Indonesia and those who support West Papuan freedom. This paper aims to analyse the root cause of this debate. Using the English School approach in international relations, this …

Women In Politics: An Examination Of Hispanic Undergraduate Students' Perspectives And Attitudes, Saliha Garcia
Theses and Dissertations
The lack of female representation in politics has long been established, as over the years there has been a rise in political participation that still fails to be representative of the general population. Women that seek positions in office often fail to garner the support that many male candidates quickly get, as women face gender stereotypes and sexism at almost every turn. Many studies have failed to look at how the Hispanic population evaluate women seeking political leadership and how engrained gender roles and stereotypes are when it comes to the evaluation of female and male candidates. This thesis examines …

The Second Watcher At The Gate: Local Newspaper Framing Of Refugees, Asylum Seekers, Immigrants, And Migrants At The Border In The Age Of Covid-19, Gabriel Rodriguez
Theses and Dissertations
The COVID-19 pandemic caused a repeat of a historical association between migrants and disease with the re-activation of Title 42, which gave the federal government the power to bar and expel migrants and asylum seekers without the opportunity to contest their expulsion, under the basis of public health. Based on a content analysis of the frames employed in the coverage of the pandemic by five newspapers located on the southern U.S. border for the period of 2020 to 2021, this study explored how these English-language newspapers gave priority to as sources, how they framed immigrants and immigration issues during the …

Esg Factors And Firms’ Credit Risk, Laura Bonacorsi, Vittoria Cerasi, Paola Galfrascoli, Matteo Manera
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
We study the relationship between the risk of default and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors using Supervised Machine Learning (SML) techniques on a cross-section of European listed companies. Our proxy for credit risk is the z-score originally proposed by Altman (1968).We consider an extensive number of ESG raw factors sourced from the rating provider MSCI as potential explanatory variables. In a first stage we show, using different SML methods such as LASSO and Random Forest, that a selection of ESG factors, in addition to the usual accounting ratios, helps explaining a firm’s probability of default. In a second stage, …

Genetic And Environmental Drivers Of Microbial Colonization In Wild Birds, Sage Rohrer
Genetic And Environmental Drivers Of Microbial Colonization In Wild Birds, Sage Rohrer
Dissertations
Wild birds are teeming with microorganisms, ranging from commensal bacteria to eukaryotic parasites. These microbes impact host health in diverse ways; some long-term residents may aid digestion or provide immune system training, while others at times may induce disease. However, the factors driving the varying colonization patterns seen across taxa are still not fully understood, and wild avian populations are particularly understudied when compared to mammalian or domesticated systems. This work examines the relative importance of genetic and environmental factors driving microbiome composition and function in wild birds. We collected fecal and blood samples from Galapagos penguins (Spheniscus mendiculus …

Introduction: An adequate healthcare workforce remains essential for the health of rural communities. Strategies to address rural health workforce challenges have often centred on the medical and nursing workforce; however, addressing the rural pharmacist workforce also remains critical as they are often the first point of contact for health advice. Initiatives have increased pharmacist supply; however, key issues such as poor attraction, recruitment, and retention to rural areas remain. The aim of this study was to support the recruitment and retention of pharmacists in rural areas of Australia through the development of the Pharmacy Community Apgar Questionnaire (PharmCAQ).
