The Ccpa, "Inferences Drawn," And Federal Preemption, Jordan M. Blanke
Richmond Journal of Law & Technology
In 2018, California passed an extensive data privacy law. One of its most significant features was the inclusion of “inferences drawn” within its definition of “personal information.” The law was significantly strengthened in 2020 with the expansion of rights for California consumers, and new obligations on businesses, including the incorporation of GDPRlike principles of data minimization, purpose limitation, storage limitation, and the creation of an independent agency to enforce these laws. In 2022, the Attorney General of California issued an Opinion that provided for an extremely broad interpretation of “inferences drawn.” Thereafter, the American Data Privacy Protection Act was introduced …

The Impact Of Domestic Investors’ Participation In Government Debt On Bank Loans To The Private Sector: A Cross-Country Study, Justina Adamanti, Sugiharso Safuan, Zaäfri Ananto Husodo
Bulletin of Monetary Economics and Banking
This study analyzes the impact of domestic investors’ participation in government debt on bank loans to the private sector in advanced and emerging countries. We find that domestic bank participation in government debt has a more profound negative impact on bank loans to the private sector in advanced than in emerging countries. Meanwhile, domestic non-bank participation in government debt only negatively impacts bank loans to the private sector in emerging countries. While both domestic bank and non-bank participation in government debt have a negative impact on bank loans to the private sector in emerging countries, the latter has a weaker …

Population Demography, Spatial Ecology, And Habitat Use Of The Florida Box Turtle (Terrapene Bauri) On A Barrier Island, Michael D. Mills
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Turtles are one the most threatened vertebrate groups in the world due to anthropogenic threats such as habitat loss and overexploitation. In addition to occupying a range that has been vulnerable to major habitat loss, the Florida box turtle (Terrapene bauri) is particularly at risk of overexploitation due to its popularity in the pet trade. Sanibel Island is a barrier island in southwest Florida that has experienced major habitat loss and is the site of a recent poaching event. In response to these threats, studies of both the population demography and spatial ecology were conducted on Sanibel’s Florida box turtle …

Healthcare regulatory agencies have mandated a reduction in 30-day hospital readmission rates and have targeted COPD as a major contributor to 30-day readmissions. We aimed to develop and validate a simple tool deploying an artificial neural network (ANN) for early identification of COPD patients with high readmission risk. Using COPD patient data from eight hospitals within a large urban hospital system, four variables were identified, weighted and validated. These included the number of in-patient admissions in the previous 6 months, the number of medications administered on the first day, insurance status, and the Rothman Index on hospital day one. An …

Benchmarking And Developing Novel Methods For G Protein-Coupled Receptor Ligand Discovery, Gregory Leon Szwabowski
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
G protein-coupled receptors (GPCR) are integral membrane proteins mediating responses from extracellular effectors that regulate a diverse set of physiological functions. Consequently, GPCR are the targets of ~34% of current FDA-approved drugs.3 Although it is clear that GPCR are therapeutically significant, discovery of novel drugs for these receptors is often impeded by a lack of known ligands and/or experimentally determined structures for potential drug targets. However, computational techniques have provided paths to overcome these obstacles. As such, this work discusses the development and application of novel computational methods and workflows for GPCR ligand discovery. Chapter 1 provides an overview of …

Biomarkers In The Development Of Individualized Treatment Regimens For Colorectal Cancer, Madison Crutcher, Scott A Waldman
Department of Surgery Faculty Papers
Introduction: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common and second most deadly malignancy in the world with an estimated 1. 9 million cases and 0.9 million deaths in 2020. The 5-year overall survival for stage I disease is 92% compared to a dismal 11% in stage IV disease. At initial presentation, up to 35% of patients have metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), and 20-50% of stage II and III patients eventually progress to mCRC. These statistics imply both that there is a proportion of early stage patients who are not receiving adequate treatment and that we are not adequately treating …

A Pipeline To Generate Deep Learning Surrogates Of Genome-Scale Metabolic Models, Achilles Rasquinha
School of Computing: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research
Genome-Scale Metabolic Models (GEMMs) are powerful reconstructions of biological systems that help metabolic engineers understand and predict growth conditions subjected to various environmental factors around the cellular metabolism of an organism in observation, purely in silico. Applications of metabolic engineering range from perturbation analysis and drug-target discovery to predicting growth rates of biotechnologically important metabolites and reaction objectives within dierent single-cell and multi-cellular organism types. GEMMs use mathematical frameworks for quantitative estimations of flux distributions within metabolic networks. The reasons behind why an organism activates, stuns, or fluctuates between alternative pathways for growth and survival, however, remain relatively unknown. GEMMs …

Aerosols play important roles in modulations of cloud properties and hydrological cycle by decreasing the size of cloud droplets with the increase of aerosols under the condition of fixed liquid water path, which is known as the first aerosol indirect effect or Twomey-effect or microphysical effect. Using high-quality aerosol data from surface observations and statistically decoupling the influence of meteorological factors, we show that highly loaded aerosols can counter this microphysical effect through the radiative effect to result both the decrease and increase of cloud droplet size depending on liquid water path in water clouds. The radiative effect due to …
