International Development Project Strategies To Reduce The Negative Impact Of Triple Constraints, Syreeta S. Bond
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
With the growing number of international development projects not meeting the triple constraint requirements every year, organizational leaders exceed their budgets and increase schedule delays. Some project managers lack strategies to minimize the negative impact of these constraints, resulting in projects that exceed their budgets and have more delays. Grounded in the theory of constraints, the purpose of this qualitative multiple-case study was to explore strategies project managers use to reduce the negative impact of the triple constraints of cost, schedule, and scope on international development projects. The participants were five project managers from five different global development companies. Data …

Judge Decision Protocols Conforming To The Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction And Enforcement Act, Jackline Browder
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction and Enforcement Act (UCCJEA) assists courts in applying key factors when determining the jurisdiction of the child’s home state in custody rulings. Family court judges have the task of determining the outcome of child custody rulings. Although the UCCJEA exists, application of the act varies by state. The purpose of this qualitative study was to determine (a) if the application of the UCCJEA and its factors are applied in custody court cases, (b) if judges used or attempted to conform to the UCCJEA, and (c) if any outside factors were identified or applied to judge …

Comparative Effectiveness Study Of Acute Ischemic Stroke Care Between Stroke Belt And Non-Stroke Belt Hospitals Using The Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Program, Michael Earl Brown Jr
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Stroke is a leading cause of mortality in the United States, particularly in a cluster of states termed the stroke belt. This study examined the efficacy of the Get With The Guidelines (GWTG)-Stroke program in stroke belt hospitals (SBHs) compared to non-stroke belt hospitals (NSBHs) regarding disparities related to mortality and acute ischemic stroke (AIS) treatment (i.e., recombinant tissue-type plasminogen activator [r-tPA] rates, Door-to-Needle [DTN], Door-to-Imaging [DTI]). Use of the GWTG-Stroke program was assessed to determine if SBHs and NSBHs were quantitatively equivalent in terms of specific core stroke measures. This quantitative employed an equivalence study design with over 2.9 …

A Social Constructivism View Of Police Community Relations In Saint Louis' Inner-City Communities, Tyrone Carter
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
The implementation of policies and initiatives often have adverse effects, causing societal harm or encouraging unprecedented events. Proactive policing strategies like Stop and Frisk Initiatives or similar tactics have historically caused trust issues between Missouri law enforcement and the community they protect and serve, complicating an inevitable relationship needed to enhance public safety. This research sought to examine how community public perception and social constructions influence government laws and statutes in Saint Louis. The theory that guided this study was the Social Constructions of Target Populations Theory; the case study examined how implicit biases in law enforcement shape the perceptions …

Perceptions Of Higher Education Online Students And Faculty Regarding Attrition In Online Courses, Maria A. Cato Parnell
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
At a large, public, 4-year college in the United States, the attrition rate for students taking online classes is 10% greater than for those taking face-to-face classes. Although the college ranks among the top in graduation rates both statewide and nationally, the research problem was the gap in attrition rates between online and face-to-face students. The purpose of this basic qualitative study was to explore online faculty and online student perspectives regarding why students drop out of online courses at one state college and what recommendations they have for improving retention in online courses. Tinto’s model of institutional departure served …
