What Got Us Here, Won’T Get Us There: Why U.S. Commercial Space Policy Must Lie In An Independent Regulatory Agency, Gerardo Inzunza Higuera
What Got Us Here, Won’T Get Us There: Why U.S. Commercial Space Policy Must Lie In An Independent Regulatory Agency, Gerardo Inzunza Higuera
UC Law Journal
This Note addresses the need for a comprehensive, centralized independent agency designated solely for the management of commercial space activities. The current commercial “space rush” promises unimaginable possibilities and profits for a burgeoning sector, yet no single federal agency has been entrusted with the regulation of this nascent industry. Currently, the United States has settled into an inefficient, fragmented regulatory approach that unduly burdens commercial players and frustrates its national objective of fostering a robust commercial low- Earth orbit economy. This Note analyzes proposals by Congress for such a new regulatory agency and concludes by proposing a new framework that …

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Dirofilaria immitis (D. immitis); is a parasitic zoonosis with a prevalence of 53.8%, whose intermediate host is mosquitoes (Anopheles, Aedes, Culex, Taeniorhychus, Mansonia and Armigenes), final hosts are carnivores (dog, cat, fox, etc.) and humans. The causative agent settles in the pulmonary arteries and causes pulmonary hypertension, which can progress to congestive heart failure. Cardiac troponins (cTn), which have recently been used in veterinary cardiology, are considered the gold standard because of their high sensitivity and specificity for myocardial injury. In the study, high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) and high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) levels in healthy …

A Phylogeny Of Antirrhinum Reveals Parallel Evolution Of Alpine Morphology, Mario Durán-Castillo, Andrew Hudson, Yvette Wilson, David L. Field, Alex D. Twyford
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
Parallel evolution of similar morphologies in closely related lineages provides insight into the repeatability and predictability of evolution. In the genus Antirrhinum (snapdragons), as in other plants, a suite of morphological characters are associated with adaptation to alpine environments.
We tested for parallel trait evolution in Antirrhinum by investigating phylogenetic relationships using restriction-site associated DNA (RAD) sequencing. We then associated phenotypic information to our phylogeny to reconstruct the patterns of morphological evolution and related this to evidence for hybridisation between emergent lineages.
Phylogenetic analyses showed that the alpine character syndrome is present in multiple groups, suggesting that Antirrhinum has repeatedly …

Why Franchisors Recruit Franchisees From The Ranks Of Their Employees, Peter Balsarini, Claire Lambert, Maria M. Ryan
Why Franchisors Recruit Franchisees From The Ranks Of Their Employees, Peter Balsarini, Claire Lambert, Maria M. Ryan
Research outputs 2014 to 2021
A shortage of suitable franchisees has long plagued the Australian franchise industry impacting franchisors’ capacity to grow their chains. This exploratory research identifies, defines and examines an unresearched category of franchisees that of internally recruited franchisees, who prior to their franchise recruitment were employees of the franchisor. This category has previously been ignored by the literature even though estimates of some chains place the proportion of internally recruited franchisees at over 40 per cent. Employing qualitative interviews with key franchisor decision makers this research begins to address this gap. This study investigates what factors drive franchisors to recruit franchisees from …

A Mixed-Methods Protocol To Develop And Validate A Stewardship Maturity Matrix For Human Genomic Data In The Cloud, Vasiliki Rahimzadeh, Ge Peng, Mildred Cho
Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy Staff Publications
This article describes a mixed-methods protocol to develop and test the implementation of a stewardship maturity matrix (SMM) for repositories which govern access to human genomic data in the cloud. It is anticipated that the cloud will host most human genomic and related health datasets generated as part of publicly funded research in the coming years. However, repository managers lack practical tools for identifying what stewardship outcomes matter most to key stakeholders as well as how to track progress on their stewardship goals over time. In this article we describe a protocol that combines Delphi survey methods with SMM modeling …
