A Combined Molecular Dynamics/Monte Carlo Simulation Of Cu Thin Film Growth On Tin Substrates: Illustration Of Growth Mechanisms And Comparison With Experiments, Reza Namakian, Brian R. Novak, Xiaoman Zhang, Wen Jin Meng, Dorel Moldovan

Using a sequential molecular dynamics (MD)/time-stamped force-bias Monte Carlo (tfMC) algorithm to simulate the deposition of Cu species onto a TiN(001) substrate at 600 K, it is shown for the first time that at the very early stage of growth, BCC-Cu grows pseudomorphically on the TiN(001) substrate as a very thin continuous film with the BCC-Cu[001]//TiN[001] growth direction. By increasing the thickness of the Cu thin film, however, the film transforms through the Nishiyama-Wasserman mechanism from BCC into predominantly FCC-Cu with abundant nanotwins, which is the same type of structure obtained in the experiment conducted here via a dc magnetron …

The use of Rejuvenating Agents (RAs), as Recycled Asphalt Pavement (RAP) modifiers, has been increasing over the past years. However, the field performance of asphalt mixtures containing high-RAP materials and modified with RAs has raised some concerns regarding the long-term performance of RAs. This study evaluated the laboratory and field performance of high-RAP mixtures with and without bio-oil RA. Three sets of plant-produced specimens were collected: 1) laboratory-compacted; 2) field-compacted and cored after paving; and 3) field-compacted and cored after one and two years. The practice of publishing photos and videos containing children’s private information on social media—also known assharenting—is popular among parents in Jakarta. Embarking from the debate about privacy paradox in which it is believed that privacy concern does not predict someone’s behaviors in managing his/her private information online, this research tries to reveal the considerations underlying parental decisions when sharing their children’s private information through social media and their perceived risk toward their children’s online safety. The molecular and cellular processes leading to aortic aneurysm development in Marfan syndrome (MFS) remain poorly understood. In this study, we examined the changes of aortic cell populations and gene expression in MFS by performing single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA seq) on ascending aortic aneurysm tissues from patients with MFS (n = 3) and age-matched non-aneurysmal control tissues from cardiac donors and recipients (n = 4). The expression of key molecules was confirmed by immunostaining. We detected diverse populations of smooth muscle cells (SMCs), fibroblasts, and endothelial cells (ECs) in the aortic wall. Prosocial behaviour has been regarded as a necessity for a society to function well. The present study aimed to examine the relationship between emotional competence, interpersonal relationship and prosocial behaviour among 496 school-going adolescents in Malaysia. The subjects were selected using Multistage Cluster Sampling method. Profile of Emotional Competence (PEC), Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment Scale (IPPA) and Strength and Difficulties Questionnaires (SDQ) were used to measure emotional competence, interpersonal relationship with peers and adolescents’ prosocial behaviour respectively. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Penang Island hoteliers cannot perform their job to meet the customers’ expectations due to their high job demands. Hence, this paper intends to examine the predictors of job performance among Penang Island hoteliers. Furthermore, the paper intends to investigate the potential role of challenge demands and hindrance demands as mediating variables. A total of 107 hoteliers from Penang Island hotels participated in the study. The study results showed that psychosocial safety climate and challenge demands possess a significant positive relationship with job performance, whereas psychosocial safety climate has a significant negative relationship with hindrance demands. …

This study aimed to find out if there are gender differences in how Filipinos adhere to the COVID-19 quarantine protocol. This research utilized the theory of planned behavior (TPB) as a framework. According to the TPB, the behavior to follow the COVID-19 protocol will be determined by one’s attitude, subjective norms, controllability, and self-efficacy. This study attempts to investigate how ethical leadership enhances nurses’ in-role and extra-role performances with the mediation of psychological empowerment. We used a cross-sectional time-lag design and collected data from 371 nurses and their immediate supervisors through a questionnaire-based survey. The data on ethical leadership and psychological empowerment were collected from nurses at T1, whereas data on in-role and extra-role performance were collected from their immediate supervisors at T2. The results revealed positive associations of ethical leadership with psychological empowerment, in-role, and extra-role performance. The globalization in financial markets has highlighted the importance of a clear understanding of volatility transmission among equity markets in different countries. This paper looks into the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the volatility transmission between the U.S. stock market and five emerging equity markets called Tiger Cub economies in Southeast Asia. As the result of the dynamic conditional correlation GARCH (DCC-GARCH), the U.S. stock market’s volatility links positively to these smaller economies’ volatilities, and these linkages become stronger during the pandemic. Journal of Critical Issues in Educational Practice

This current study framed the concept of “critical hope” and examined how systemic oppression in society continuously perpetrates the “hope gap” in low-income students. We defined critical hope, in this study, as the optimistic way of viewing and acting on the world from a critically historically conscious, socially and culturally situated perspective with a personal belief that inevitable change will inspire a sense of community, advocacy, liberation, and justice (Strikwerda, 2019).
