This research examines how women voice their narratives through tattoos by studying the experiences of seven tattooed women. Using the in-depth interview method, this research presents the narratives of these tattooed women in relation to their tattoos. Such narratives seem to be strongly intertwined with their life stories. The body is a medium in which a person can place certain markers to achieve certain purposes. As Butler theorizes, what the body displays is not the real self, but only an appearance according to the assumed or chosen role. In addition, according to Cixous, tattooing can be considered as a form …

The goal of our study is to examine the impact of natural disasters on the South Pacific Stock Exchange. We use daily time-series data for Fiji’s stock market for the period 2000-2019. Our empirical framework is based on three factor regression models, namely the market model, the Fama and French three-factor model, and the Fama and French five-factor model. We find evidence that natural disasters in Fiji reduce abnormal returns in the most relevant five-factor model. Additionally, we provide evidence that different types of natural disasters have heterogeneous effects on Fiji’s stock market. Our findings are further supported by a …

Corporate governance failures are one of the major factors that have crippled the Indonesian economy through financial crises. In response, the OECD has prescribed Principles II and III of the G20/OECD Principles of Corporate Governance to ensure the rights and equitable treatment of all shareholders and the acknowledged role of institutional investors in improving corporate governance. Institutional investors play a significant role as corporate monitors in protecting the public investors’ money and improving corporate financial performance. They are therefore acknowledged as the policies of economic crises, creators of firm values, and drivers of economic development. However, as this paper explains, …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive neuromuscular disease. SMA phenotypes can be determined by the timing of disease onset and the highest level of motor development reachable by the patient. Generally speaking, proximal muscle involvement is more severe than in the distal extremities. In addition, cervical and the masticatory and pharyngeal muscles were likely affected by the disease, which can cause feeding problems and dysphagia. Clinically, dysphagia is more common among patients with type I and type II SMA. To thoroughly evaluate swallowing-related issues, both subjective information from patients and their caregivers and findings from objective tools including …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Spinal cord injury is associated with a substantial and long-term economic burden on both the patients and the national health insurance. Due to the advancements in medical techniques, the mortality rate of patients with spinal cord injury has decreased. Moreover, as the life expectancy has increased in Taiwan, patients with spinal cord injury may need long-term rehabilitation to restore their functions of daily living and prevent further complications. Nonetheless, long-term rehabilitation would increase the economic burden on the long-term care facilities, as expected. This study aimed to analyze the impact (from admission to 3-year follow-up after discharge) of medical expenses …

Rehabilitation Practice and Science
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a common disease that primarily afflicts older adults. The mainstream management of knee OA involves integrative practice, including patient education, weight reduction, exercise, pharmacological therapy, and non-pharmacological modalities. However, prolotherapy with hypertonic dextrose via either intra-articular or periarticular injection, or a combination of both techniques, has become a strong evidence-based treatment or adjuvant therapy that may be used in addition to conservative management. In the literature, two studies have compared the effects of intra-articular and periarticular prolotherapy for knee OA and reveal comparable effects. In addition, the periarticular approach has fewer side effects and post-injection pain. …
