Stolon Mass And Classes In White Clover (Trifolium Repens L.) With Two Soil Water Availability Levels, Omar Scheneiter, E. M. Pagano
Stolon Mass And Classes In White Clover (Trifolium Repens L.) With Two Soil Water Availability Levels, Omar Scheneiter, E. M. Pagano
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Two trials were carried out to study the stolon mass and classes in white clover (Trifolium repens L.) under two soil water availability levels in summer. In each trial, treatments were two white clover cultivars. From December 15th to February 15th in 1993/94 and again during the same period the following year, white clover was grown under 30 to 70 % (Forced water uptake) or 85-to100 % (Maximum water uptake) of field capacity. Every two months, throughout two years, total stolon mass, and buried, superficial, and aerial stolons were measured. Differences between cultivars were detected in stolon …

Morphological Description Of Selected Pigeonpea (Cajanus Cajan (L.) Millsp.) Lines, Rodolfo Godoy, F. H. De Souza
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Seventeen pigeonpea pure line accessions selected for desirable forage traits and three commercial cultivars were described according to morphological characters. The following descriptors were used: growth habit, plant height, number of primary and secondary branches, stem color and thickness, leaf shape and hairiness, flower base and second color, pattern of flower streaks, flowering pattern, immature and mature pod color, pod form and hairiness, seed color pattern, base and second seed color, seed eye (region around hilum) color and seed shape and width. Each individual line and cultivar was satisfactorily distinguished from the others by the chosen characters.
Improvement Of Rose Clover Winter Forage Production, Gerald R. Smith, F. M. Rouquette Jr.
Improvement Of Rose Clover Winter Forage Production, Gerald R. Smith, F. M. Rouquette Jr.
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Rose clover (Trifolium hirtum All.) is a winter annual forage legume that has potential for increased use in the U.S. southern region. New cultivars of rose clover are needed with the combination of cold tolerance, winter forage production and full bloom date of late April. Crosses were made between two early flowering cultivars and one late flowering rose clover cultivar. The F2 and F3 generations from these crosses were evaluated in northeast Texas for winter growth, cold damage and date of flowering. Fourteen F3 lines, out of 37 selected F2 parents, showed large increases (>100%) …
Article Iii And The Political Question Doctrine, Scott Dodson
Article Iii And The Political Question Doctrine, Scott Dodson
Northwestern University Law Review
Courts and commentators have often sourced the political question doctrine in Article III, a repository of other separation-of-powers doctrines applicable to the federal courts. Rucho v. Common Cause, a blockbuster political question case decided in 2019, explicitly tied the doctrine to Article III. But the historical development of the doctrine undermines the depth of that connection. Further, sourcing the doctrine in Article III leads to some very odd effects, including leaving state courts free to answer federal political questions. This Article argues that the source of the political question doctrine is in substantive law, not in Article III. Such …
Three Essays In Development And Environmental Economics, Michael Benjamin Goodwin
Three Essays In Development And Environmental Economics, Michael Benjamin Goodwin
Economics ETDs
This dissertation explores three unique topics in development and environmental economics. The first paper looks at the value people place on clean air in Mexico City using an alternative air pollution measure to the typical ground measurement. Research and policy addressing air pollution remains hampered by a lack of ground level air quality data. This study attempts to overcome this issue using aerosol optical depth from satellite imagery as a proxy for air pollution. Using a hedonic framework and least squares estimation, results show that Mexico City residents place a significant value on clean air as demonstrated by their choices …
Improving The Deployment Of Insecticidal Seed Treatments In Louisiana Rice In Accordance With Integrated Pest Management, Megan Marie Mulcahy
Improving The Deployment Of Insecticidal Seed Treatments In Louisiana Rice In Accordance With Integrated Pest Management, Megan Marie Mulcahy
LSU Doctoral Dissertations
Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus Kuschel (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is the most destructive insect pest of rice in the United States. Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus larvae feed on rice roots, reducing yields by up to 25 %. Lepidopteran stem borers, in the family Crambidae, are also economically important pests of rice in Louisiana.
Currently, insecticidal seed treatments are used throughout the U.S. Mid-south rice industry to prophylactically control L. oryzophilus. Chlorantraniliprole seed treatments are also effective against stem borers. Thus, insecticidal seed treatments are used on >80 % of Louisiana rice acreage. Although seed treatments reduce damage inflicted by these pests, they are applied preventatively …

A composite 11.82 m-long (9876e-67 cal yr BP) sediment record from Yellowstone Lake, Wyoming was analyzed using a robust set of biological and geochemical proxies to investigate the paleoenvironmental evolution of the lake and its catchment in response to long-term climate forcing. Oxygen isotopes from diatom frustules were analyzed to reconstruct Holocene climate changes, and pollen, charcoal, diatom assemblages, and biogenic silica provided information on terrestrial and limnological responses. The long-term trends recorded in the terrestrial and limnic ecosystems over the last 9800 years reflect the influence of changes in the amplification of the seasonal cycle of insolation on regional …
Quantification Of Soil Microbial Biomass In The Mcmurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica, Emily Ruth Reynebeau
Quantification Of Soil Microbial Biomass In The Mcmurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica, Emily Ruth Reynebeau
Biology ETDs
Quantifying microbial biomass is important for understanding microbial contribution to nutrient cycling and population flux. Widely accepted biomass estimation methods are sufficient for well-studied and high biomass systems, though are often not sensitive enough for systems with extremely low biomass. The McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica are characterized as an extremely harsh environment with severe restrictions on life, with perhaps some of the lowest biomass in the world. We measured prokaryote biomass across Taylor and Wright Valleys using four estimation metrics to determine the most appropriate method for this ecosystem. The chloroform fumigation method was not sensitive enough for the …
