Attacking National Cyber Security Of Smart City Infrastructure Legal And Technical Challenges And Coping Strategies, Emad El-Din Mohamed Kamel Abdel Hamid
Attacking National Cyber Security Of Smart City Infrastructure Legal And Technical Challenges And Coping Strategies, Emad El-Din Mohamed Kamel Abdel Hamid
Al-miʿyār
The facilities and infrastructure institutions of smart cities in various countries of the world have been based on cyberspace. The cyberspace and the data it contains for these facilities and institutions have become attractive for various attacks, whether information crimes or cyber national security crimes. Cyber national security crimes may be committed in the form of cyber terrorism crimes or cyber wars, and the means of committing them are cross-border cyber-attacks, which start and end these attacks in few seconds, achieving their desired goal. It is difficult to determine their source or track their perpetrators, in addition to the devastating …
Resentenced And Released: Re-Entry Needs Following Release From Juvenile Life Without Parole, Daphne M. Brydon
Resentenced And Released: Re-Entry Needs Following Release From Juvenile Life Without Parole, Daphne M. Brydon
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Over 2,100 individuals serving juvenile life without paroles (JLWOP) sentences in the U.S. became eligible for resentencing following the 2016 Montgomery v. Louisiana Supreme Court ruling. Michigan housed an estimated 370 juvenile lifers at that time, the second largest JLWOP community in the country and has since resentenced and released approximately 120 juvenile lifers. Folx released from prison encounter many barriers to successful re-entry. Barriers are often amplified for those incarcerated as adolescents. Further, services are de-prioritized for folx serving JLWOP sentences, which can be especially damaging for this community whose life experiences are marked by high rates of trauma, …
Demystifying School Resource Officers: A Case Study, Alexis Sliva
Demystifying School Resource Officers: A Case Study, Alexis Sliva
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In recent years, there has been a dramatic spike in student arrests for behaviors that previously fell under the auspices of suspensions, expulsions, or family consultations. Black and Latinx students receive discipline and law enforcement referrals at superfluous levels compared to White peers. Additionally, the disproportionate and aggressive referral of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) students for disciplinary action are often for infractions that are considered less severe than the actions of their White counterparts. Punitive discipline advances school-based pathways to the juvenile justice system (SPJJ), formerly known as the school to prison pipeline (STPP). School psychologists are …

The Concealment Of Racism In America: Rise Of An Unseen Oppressor, Justin Gabriel
The Concealment Of Racism In America: Rise Of An Unseen Oppressor, Justin Gabriel
3690: A Journal of First-Year Student Research Writing
Overview: The progression of how racism manifests is observed in many areas of the world, notably in American literature. As evidenced by Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave by Frederick Douglass, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, and All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely, racism has become more covert and more subtle over time; racism has moved from obvious and overt slavery in the past, to more concealed discrimination/segregation later on, and finally to the hidden institutional racism of today.
Author's reflection: My name is Justin Gabriel, and I am majoring in biochemistry …
Beyond A Reasonable Doubt: Juries Don’T Get It, Hon. James A. Shapiro, Karl T. Muth
Beyond A Reasonable Doubt: Juries Don’T Get It, Hon. James A. Shapiro, Karl T. Muth
Loyola University Chicago Law Journal
Proof beyond a reasonable doubt has been de rigueur in criminal cases almost since the dawn of the republic. It is based on the premise that it is better to let several guilty people go free in order to save one innocent person from wrongful conviction. The jury in a criminal case is not merely an audience. It is the central mechanism without which the wheels of American criminal justice cannot turn-- and operates as the final safeguard against a grave error. However, while the Constitution describes the importance, composition, and role of the jury, it does not explicitly …
Making America A Better Place For All: Sustainable Development Recommendations For The Biden Administration, William Snape
Making America A Better Place For All: Sustainable Development Recommendations For The Biden Administration, William Snape
PEEL Faculty Scholarship
In 2015, the United Nations Member States, including the United States, unanimously approved 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved by 2030. The SDGs are nonbinding; each nation is to implement them based on its own priorities and circumstances. This Article argues that the SDGs are a critical normative framework the United States should use to improve human quality of life, freedom, and opportunity by integrating economic and social development with environmental protection. It collects the recommendations of 22 experts on steps that the Biden-Harris Administration should take now to advance each of the SDGs. It is part of …

Examination Of The Implementation Of A Mandated Attendance Policy In Ohio School Districts In The Midst Of Covid-19, Rene Teruko Molenaur
ETD Archive
This multi-site case study uses Policy Implementation Process Examination (PIPE) and a variegated diagram to represent the evolution of interpretations in a human sense-making framework as it relates to Ohio House Bill 410, legislated in 2016. The purpose of the research is to study how implementing agents such as school district personnel respond to legislation and carry out efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism while attending to local conditions. Because the COVID-19 pandemic occurred while this study was taking place, this study was able to include within its investigation how school district personnel responded to this crisis and changes in conditions …
The Effects Of Yoga On Incarcerated Youth, Kyle Eyman
The Effects Of Yoga On Incarcerated Youth, Kyle Eyman
ETD Archive
Prior research has shown that yoga and mindfulness-based practices have been used to reduce stress, depression, and anxiety (Chong et al., 2011; Riley et al., 2014). Additionally, there has been a push to introduce yoga into prison through the Prison Yoga Project (PYP). Yoga has been studied in adult prison and has had success in aiding inmates with improvements of stress and symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as improvement of self-regulation (Auty et al., 2015). However, yoga and the PYP are unstudied in juvenile correctional facilities. The present study examined the usage of the PYP in one juvenile …

Taxation, Liberty, And Property Rights: A Libertarian Defense Of Universal Health Coverage, Graeme Bradley Cave
Taxation, Liberty, And Property Rights: A Libertarian Defense Of Universal Health Coverage, Graeme Bradley Cave
Wayne State University Dissertations
Today, the United States is widely recognized as the only developed country without universal health coverage. Unfortunately for the United States, that is problematic. Despite lacking universal health coverage, the United States spends more on health care than any other country. In return, it has a large uninsured population, a large underinsured population, and overall comparatively poor health outcomes. Unsurprisingly, then, everyone in the philosophical literature on health care justice—for one reason or another—says the United States should join every other developed country and get universal health coverage. Everyone, that is, except for libertarians. In my dissertation, I argue that libertarians …

To Take A Knee, Jay Henley
To Take A Knee, Jay Henley
3690: A Journal of First-Year Student Research Writing
Overview: Years ago, when slavery was legal, African Americans were viewed by many as less than human and were treated as such because of the color of their skin. James Wilson and Roger Sherman, delegates for the Constitutional Convention of 1787, even proposed an agreement that determined that each slave would only represent three-fifths of a man when determining state representation in Congress (Finkelman 2013). The Emancipation for African Americans was the key to a promised land of true freedom, but they were left disappointed because they were not actually granted the freedoms they hoped for. Today, even though slavery …

Biblical Principles Of Government & Criminal Justice, Kahlib Fischer
Biblical Principles Of Government & Criminal Justice, Kahlib Fischer
Faculty Publications and Presentations
The following is an overview of Biblical precepts related to government and criminal justice. Before moving onto specific points of application, it is necessary to establish a paradigm for what it means to have a Biblical worldview in general, and for what it means to know and understand the nature of truth. This paper is as much about pedagogy and hermeneutics as it is about content. But more than that, this paper is about living out the Gospel in all areas of life, of which matters of Church, State, Society, and Soul are all parts.

Direct File Of Youthful Offenders In Florida, Onetha Belgrave
Direct File Of Youthful Offenders In Florida, Onetha Belgrave
Undergraduate Research Posters 2021
In the State of Florida, children are sent through the court system by the appointed state prosecutor to adult jails, “forced” to take plea bargains, and enter into a diversion program or prison. Upon exiting this system, they face barriers finding employment or housing. The label “convicted felon” follows them for the rest of their lives. The lack of resources and opportunities might be the reason behind the high recidivism rate. In this project, we explore the issues regarding youth offenders direct file, how it affects families especially those who are “at-risk”, why blacks are arrested and incarcerated more than …
Juveniles In Solitary Confinement, Abbey Logan
Juveniles In Solitary Confinement, Abbey Logan
Undergraduate Review
The topic of solitary confinement has been controversial in the United States for decades. Policies regarding juveniles in solitary confinement have been especially contentious in recent years. In this essay, I define solitary confinement and provide a brief overview of its history, discuss the current state of affairs and legal issues, evaluate a case in which solitary confinement played a key role, discuss the federal policy which ended solitary confinement for juveniles, and analyze the quality and effectiveness of the case and policy. I then suggest how to move forward from this detrimental practice.

This investigative report analyzes the ability to design, create, test, and re-design a vest that is both puncture and slash resistant according to the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) protective level standards. Specifically, the vest will be provided to law enforcement, but could have the potential to be used for military application or civilian protection. Experimentally, the vest should protect the wearer from an E2 Protection Level 3 Overstrike of 65 Joules from any type of knife-like object with a penetration depth no greater than 20mm. The vest was designed with the goal of versatility, the protection over any vital …
