Media Stylistics Linguistic Representation, Realization, And Perception, Hussein Huwail Ghayadh
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
Communication can be accomplished through the processes of encoding (developing and sending messages) and decoding (turning messages into thoughts). Communication generally manifests itself within the perspective of some social situation which is responsible for setting the context for the conveyed interlocutors’ intentions. This paper looks at how the messages are encoded by the interviewee, how his linguistic choices are stylistically and constructive, and how his arguments are logically arranged. Not only the interviewee’s task, but this paper also detects how the audience perceives the intentions, how they match the linguistic choices with their referents (semantic or pragmatic referents). It also …

Depression affects over 17 million American adults yearly and has been identified as the leading cause of disability in people between the ages of 15 and 44 years. There is evidence that feeling neglect or a lack of parental attachment during childhood is associated with depression. One construct that has been overlooked is love from a parent. The purpose of this study was to analyze the association between individuals who felt not wanted/loved during adolescence and lifetime depression and to examine this association by gender. We examined 5114 participants aged 24–32 years at Wave IV of the National Longitudinal Study …

Supplemental Material For Facebook Sharenting In Mothers Of Young Children: The Risks Are Worth It But Only For Some., Ra Briazu, C Floccia, Y Hanoch
School of Psychology
Sharenting, or sharing information of children by parents on social media sites, has received much media attention. While offering many benefits, it may also contain risks. The present study used a mixed-methods approach to investigate how understanding of risks and benefits alongside psychosocial variables affected the Facebook sharenting behavior of 190 mothers with young children. Findings reveal that awareness of risks was associated with a decrease in posting frequency, although most still chose to share sensitive information such as pictures and activity information. Furthermore, mothers chose to focus on unlikely safeguarding concerns rather than long-term repercussions such as identity fraud …
Evolution Or Revolution In Telehealth Regulation, George Horvath
Evolution Or Revolution In Telehealth Regulation, George Horvath
Texas A&M Law Review
A frequently repeated adage, attributed to a wide range of authors and orators, holds that a serious crisis should never be allowed to go to waste. The moment in which we find ourselves renders this adage particularly timely. Responses to one of the defining crises of our age—the COVID–19 pandemic—have mostly been reactive. This includes the responses of multiple actors involved with telehealth. Congress, federal regulators, state legislatures, state regulators, private insurers, and health care providers, confronting the challenges of the pandemic, have responded by making ad hoc adjustments to the regulation and use of telehealth. Moving the conversation beyond …
Real Property, Real Problems: Expanding Alaska's Unfair Trade Practices And Consumer Protection Act, Michael E. Keramidas
Real Property, Real Problems: Expanding Alaska's Unfair Trade Practices And Consumer Protection Act, Michael E. Keramidas
Alaska Law Review
Alaska’s Unfair and Deceptive Acts and Practices (UDAP) statute was designed to provide broad, robust protections for everyday Alaskan consumers. Astonishingly, Alaska is one of only three states that does not protect Alaskans under its UDAP statute when they fall victim to fraudulent schemes involving real property. The Alaska Supreme Court has consistently upheld this interpretation of the UDAP statute by relying on precedent from over thirty years ago. At the same time, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everyday Alaskans are more economically vulnerable than ever before, with the atmosphere being ripe for proliferation of fraudulent real property schemes. This …

Legalizing Local: Alaska's Unique Opportunity To Create An Equitable And Sustainable Seaweed Farming Industry, Logan Miller
Alaska Law Review
The seaweed farming industry in Alaska is in its nascent stages. There is tremendous potential for growth, but also risk of exploitation and inequitable outcomes. Alaskans have a unique and urgent opportunity to enact policies that can ensure and promote equitable, sustainable development that centers the voices and interests of marginalized groups—including Indigenous and rural populations—and provides benefits to local economies. This Note seeks to contribute to the creation of a sound policy framework for the responsible development of Alaska’s seaweed farming industry by advancing both a theoretical framework and specific policy recommendations. Drawing from the experiences of other jurisdictions …
The Ballot Is Stronger Than The Bullet: Alaska's Superior Strict Scrutiny Approach To Ballot Access Laws, Ben Sheppard, Josh Guckert
The Ballot Is Stronger Than The Bullet: Alaska's Superior Strict Scrutiny Approach To Ballot Access Laws, Ben Sheppard, Josh Guckert
Alaska Law Review
Restrictive ballot access laws are the most burdensome requirement for third-party candidates. Such laws implicate First Amendment freedoms to associate both publicly and privately with like-minded individuals in order to advance political causes. Alaskan courts review state ballot access laws under the demanding standard of strict scrutiny. This standard was adopted through the efforts of Joe Vogler and his Alaskan Independence Party. The authors contend that such a standard has fostered Alaska’s unique openness toward third-party candidacies. Nonetheless, the Supreme Court of the United States does not utilize this same strict scrutiny review, instead using the Anderson-Burdick test, which balances …

Puerto Rico’s sovereignty status is an anomaly. Since the United States acquired the island in 1898, the federal government has treated Puerto Ricans differently compared to residents of its other acquired territories. The United States also exerts significant control over Puerto Rico’s local affairs, most recently through the enactment and enforcement of the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA) in response to the current debt crisis in Puerto Rico. This note assesses the validity of the federal government’s use of the territories clause to control local Puerto Rican affairs, examining the complex history between the United States …
