Attacking National Cyber Security Of Smart City Infrastructure Legal And Technical Challenges And Coping Strategies, Emad El-Din Mohamed Kamel Abdel Hamid Jan 2021

Attacking National Cyber Security Of Smart City Infrastructure Legal And Technical Challenges And Coping Strategies, Emad El-Din Mohamed Kamel Abdel Hamid

Al-miʿyār

The facilities and infrastructure institutions of smart cities in various countries of the world have been based on cyberspace. The cyberspace and the data it contains for these facilities and institutions have become attractive for various attacks, whether information crimes or cyber national security crimes. Cyber national security crimes may be committed in the form of cyber terrorism crimes or cyber wars, and the means of committing them are cross-border cyber-attacks, which start and end these attacks in few seconds, achieving their desired goal. It is difficult to determine their source or track their perpetrators, in addition to the devastating …

Evaluating Nuclear Energy As A Component Of U.S. Energy Innovation Systems, Bryce Jones Jan 2021

Evaluating Nuclear Energy As A Component Of U.S. Energy Innovation Systems, Bryce Jones

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Nuclear energy is contentious in policy discussions that evaluate its role in the current U.S. clean energy innovation system. OECD nations, on average, have begun to reduce their dependence on nuclear energy. However, the United States has remained invested in its nuclear energy infrastructure and the role that it plays within federal research and development. This thesis examines the Neo-Schumpeterian perspective and the National Innovation System’s approach, the economic history of nuclear energy in the United States, and given insight from these factors, discusses the current role of nuclear energy in the U.S. energy innovation system. The objective is to …

Demystifying School Resource Officers: A Case Study, Alexis Sliva Jan 2021

Demystifying School Resource Officers: A Case Study, Alexis Sliva

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In recent years, there has been a dramatic spike in student arrests for behaviors that previously fell under the auspices of suspensions, expulsions, or family consultations. Black and Latinx students receive discipline and law enforcement referrals at superfluous levels compared to White peers. Additionally, the disproportionate and aggressive referral of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) students for disciplinary action are often for infractions that are considered less severe than the actions of their White counterparts. Punitive discipline advances school-based pathways to the juvenile justice system (SPJJ), formerly known as the school to prison pipeline (STPP). School psychologists are …

Fraudmove: Fraud Drivers Discovery Using Real-Time Trajectory Outlier Detection, Eman O. Eldawy, Abdeltawab Hendawi, Mohammed Andalla, Hoda M.O. Mokhtar

Computer Science and Statistics Faculty Publications

Taxicabs and rideshare cars nowadays are equipped with GPS devices that enable capturing a large volume of traces. These GPS traces represent the moving behavior of the car drivers. Indeed, the real-time discovery of fraud drivers earlier is a demand for saving the passenger’s life and money. For this purpose, this paper proposes a novel time-based system, namely FraudMove, to discover fraud drivers in real-time by identifying outlier active trips. Mainly, the proposed FraudMove system computes the time of the most probable path of a trip. For trajectory outlier detection, a trajectory is considered an outlier trajectory if its time …

By using critical discourse analysis, the research examines the language and other communicative tactics employed to engage a skeptical public. The paper reviews the causes of vaccine hesitancy, the role of social media in spreading both fear and facts, and the challenges of balancing persuasive messaging while respecting individual rights. The findings show how the government used communication tools on Facebook to counter misinformation …

Labor Organization In Ride-Sharing: Unionization Or Cartelization?, Mark Anderson Jan 2021

Labor Organization In Ride-Sharing: Unionization Or Cartelization?, Mark Anderson

Articles

The sharing economy brings together the constituent parts of a business enterprise into a structure that, on its surface, resembles a business firm, but in crucial ways is nothing like the traditional firm. This includes the ownership of the primary capital assets used in the business, as well as one of the most fundamental features of a firm-the relationship with its labor force. Sharing economy workers are formally contractors, running small businesses as sole entrepreneurs, with the effect that they are excluded from many of the protections made available to workers across the economy. The result is a seeming disparity …

Impacts Of The Pandemic In Nonmetropolitan Nebraska: 2021 Nebraska Rural Poll Results, Rebecca J. Vogt, Heather Akin, Cheryl A. Burkhart-Kriesel, Bradley Lubben, L. J. Mcelravy, Timothy Meyer, Steven A. Schulz

Nebraska Rural Poll

Most rural Nebraskans felt various impacts from the pandemic. While many rural Nebraskans had someone in their household that quarantined because of possible coronavirus exposure or who contracted COVID-19, most have friends or family in their community that quarantined or contracted the virus. Many rural Nebraskans also have friends or family both inside and outside their community who were hospitalized as a result of COVID-19 or who died as a result of it.

Most rural Nebraskans say the following were affected a fair amount or a great deal by the pandemic: their socialization with others, their life overall, and their …

Life In Nonmetropolitan Nebraskan Communities: 2021 Nebraska Rural Poll Results, Rebecca J. Vogt, Heather Akin, Cheryl A. Burkhart-Kriesel, Bradley Lubben, L. J. Mcelravy, Timothy Meyer, Steven A. Schulz

Nebraska Rural Poll

Rural Nebraskans are less positive about the current change and expected future change in their communities this year. The proportion believing their community has changed for the better has typically been greater than the proportion believing it has changed for the worse. However, this year the proportion believing their community changed for the worse was slightly more than the proportion believing it had changed for the better (similar to what occurred in 2003 and 2009). The proportion viewing positive change in their community sharply declined from last year. The proportion believing their community has stayed the same increased sharply. Despite …

Two Paths To Commitment: A Moderated Mediation Model, Ashley Moroney Jan 2021

Two Paths To Commitment: A Moderated Mediation Model, Ashley Moroney

ETD Archive

This study examines organizational commitment in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic through two similar, yet distinct, pathways. Using a foundation of existing social and organizational psychology concepts, researchers predict that continuance commitment will be influenced by the presence of pandemic policies. That relationship is predicted to be mediated by the perceived risk of catching COVID-19 at work, and the relationship between pandemic policy presence and perceived risk will be moderated by belief in the pandemic. Similarly, researchers predict that affective commitment will also be influenced by the presence of pandemic policies. That relationship is predicted to be mediated by …

The Effects Of Yoga On Incarcerated Youth, Kyle Eyman Jan 2021

The Effects Of Yoga On Incarcerated Youth, Kyle Eyman

ETD Archive

Prior research has shown that yoga and mindfulness-based practices have been used to reduce stress, depression, and anxiety (Chong et al., 2011; Riley et al., 2014). Additionally, there has been a push to introduce yoga into prison through the Prison Yoga Project (PYP). Yoga has been studied in adult prison and has had success in aiding inmates with improvements of stress and symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as improvement of self-regulation (Auty et al., 2015). However, yoga and the PYP are unstudied in juvenile correctional facilities. The present study examined the usage of the PYP in one juvenile …

The Wolf We Feed: Democracy, Caste, And Legitimacy, Benjamin Justice, Tracey L. Meares Jan 2021

The Wolf We Feed: Democracy, Caste, And Legitimacy, Benjamin Justice, Tracey L. Meares

Michigan Law Review Online

Procedure is central to American public legal discourse. From the soaring rhetoric of the Declaration of Independence to the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, the American legal tradition rests on the principle that law must be both derived and applied according to fair process. Consider that in the 2020 election the Trump Administration resorted to fervent and false allegations of widespread voter fraud—that the election process was fundamentally unfair—in order to weaponize Republican voters’ ostensible commitments to fairness against what was, objectively, one of the least procedurally unfair elections in history. Yet the four-year period of the Trump …
