The Youtube - Savoring Model: Youtube As A Means Of Increasing Savoring For An Upcoming Consumption Experience, Marc P. Dupont

AMTP Proceedings 2021

YouTube started primarily as a means of entertainment. However, in recent years it has become a platform for both information-seeking and information-giving behaviors. Using the consumption, participation, and production framework for user generated media, YouTube is examined as a platform to influence an individual’s savoring and remembered enjoyment of a consumption experience. This study proposes a model for utilizing YouTube as a means of increasing savoring for an upcoming consumption experience through elaborative processing, minimizing distractions, and encouraging remembered enjoyment.

Ready? Set? Go?: Examining Organizational Readiness For Change In A Quality Improvement Intervention For Youth Mentoring Programs, Renee Spencer, Alison L. Drew, Carla Herrera, Bowen Mcbeath, Thomas E. Keller

School of Social Work Faculty Publications and Presentations

The number of youth mentoring programs has risen significantly in recent decades. This trend, coupled with evidence that programs employing a greater number of empirically supported practices achieve more positive effects for youth participants, has prompted increasing interest in how to promote more widespread use of evidence-based practice standards in mentoring programs. In an effort to describe and better understand efforts to implement recommended standards, we studied a multi-level initiative sponsored by a national advocacy organization in which its state-level Affiliates guided local mentoring programs through a structured quality improvement process. Specifically, we examined organizational readiness for change among mentoring …

The Strategic Orientation Of Skilled Nursing Facilities, Jennifer R. Palazzolo Jan 2021

The Strategic Orientation Of Skilled Nursing Facilities, Jennifer R. Palazzolo

Theses and Dissertations

Since the early 2000s, skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) have operated in an environment made uncertain by changes in health care policy, growth in substitutes for nursing care, and increasing demand for services. To better understand how SNFs are strategically positioning themselves to survive and thrive, this study develops a taxonomy of strategic groups of SNFs.

A conceptual framework is based in Strategic Management Theory and classification of SNFs is based on scope of business decisions including length of stay, complexity of patients, and referral networks with hospitals. Two-step, hierarchical cluster analysis finds six strategy groups of SNFs: Post-Acute Care Focus …

Confidence In Organizational Science Procedures: Development And Measurement Of A Novel Construct, Alice Pyclik

Browse all Theses and Dissertations

Adopting organizational science recommendations can lead to beneficial outcomes, but there is a gap between what scientists recommend and what managers do. This research introduced the construct of confidence in organizational science procedures (COSP), which refers to an individual’s belief that organizational science findings a) are accurate, b) are important, and c) should be applied in organizations. In addition to introducing COSP, the purposes of this research were to develop a measure of COSP and test hypotheses related to the nomological network of this construct. First, 29 participants completed an item sorting task, providing content validity information for the COSP …

In 2014, the DU Libraries began to address a lack of work by and about the Cheyenne and Arapaho people in its collections, and moved toward reparative change in response to historical traumas suffered by Indigenous Peoples. The history of this work and its origins—which led to the creation of the Libraries’ Collection Diversification Task Force (CDTF) and now informs the Libraries’ collection development philosophy and operational inclusivity—are discussed in the “Developments Leading to the Collection Diversification Task Force” section of this chapter. Further on, the “Collection Diversification Task Force” section clarifies methodology, recommendations, and self-discovery on the part of …

A World Of Their Own: Illiberal Religious Communities Struggle To Comply With Covid-19 Public Health Regulations, Shai Stern Jan 2021

A World Of Their Own: Illiberal Religious Communities Struggle To Comply With Covid-19 Public Health Regulations, Shai Stern

Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law

The COVID-19 pandemic did not eliminate existing social tensions; rather, it at times intensified them. Thus, it is unsurprising that. the tension between the liberal state and illiberal religious communities likewise intensified, as those communities were late to comply with COVID-19 public health regulations issued by state authorities. This Article suggests that alongside the behavioral and psychological explanations for individual non-compliance, illiberal religious communities' late response to the COVID-19 threats stems out of these communities' unique characteristics and deeply held norms. It provides five explanations supporting this argument and argues that all result from the interventionist liberal-centric policies embraced by …

Hyperpartisan Campaign Finance, Michael S. Kang Jan 2021

Hyperpartisan Campaign Finance, Michael S. Kang

Emory Law Journal

Hyperpartisanship dominates modern American politics and government, but today’s politics are strikingly different from the preceding period of American history, a Cold War Era when bipartisanship and ideological moderation predominated. Hyperpartisanship was not the salient dynamic in American politics when campaign finance law began, and as a result, campaign finance law developed under strikingly different assumptions about American politics than the current prevailing circumstances. Today’s campaign finance law, inherited from this preceding era, is thus mismatched to the campaign finance of today. Campaign finance law focuses on individual candidates as the central actors in fundraising and misses the role of …

Techniques And Forces And The Communicative Constitution Of Organization: A Deleuzian Approach To Organizational (In)Stability And Power, Jennifer J. Mease (Also Peeksmease) Jan 2021

Techniques And Forces And The Communicative Constitution Of Organization: A Deleuzian Approach To Organizational (In)Stability And Power, Jennifer J. Mease (Also Peeksmease)

Department of Communication Studies: Faculty Publications

This article introduces five principles of Deleuzian ontology and the conceptual framework of techniques and forces into emerging CCO scholarship addressing (dis)organization and power. By introducing Deleuzian concepts of (1) the virtual, (2) mutual (in)stability of meaning and materiality, (3) forces (and techniques), (4) communication, and (5) power, this essay builds a relational ontology that centers communication, speaks across existing theories of CCO, and offers a more detailed emphasis on power. In doing so, it enhances the explanatory power of CCO in general, as a set of theories useful for describing how organizational constitution and power play out in an …

As practitioners of a historical science, paleontologists and geoscientists are well versed in the idea that the ability to understand and to anticipate the future relies upon our collective knowledge of the past. Despite this understanding, the fundamental role that the history of paleontology and the geosciences plays in shaping the structure and culture of our disciplines is seldom recognized and therefore not acted upon sufficiently. Here, we present a brief review of the history of paleontology and geology in Western countries, with a particular focus on North America since the 1800s. Western paleontology and geology are intertwined with systematic …

Transforming Campus Climate For Diversity: Accreditation Liaison Officer Perceptions And Beliefs Regarding The Impact Of Regional Accreditation On Institutional Change, David H. Sundby

LMU Theses and Dissertations

Despite attention given to the increasing diversity in higher education, greater barriers to college access and degree attainment exist for many minoritized groups in comparison to dominant groups. Research illustrates that campus climate for diversity, a systemic concept, plays a critical role in the success of minoritized groups. Additionally, institutional accreditation is a critical process, and it may be a catalyst for systemic change. However, there is little research on the relationship between the regional accreditation process and institutional change, with even less research on the impact of accreditation on campus climate for diversity.

To address this gap in literature, …

The Future Of Leadership Training: An Immersive Web-Based Program Enhancing Nurse’S Critical Soft Leadership Skills In New Healthcare Contexts, Nina Vaid Raoji Jan 2021

The Future Of Leadership Training: An Immersive Web-Based Program Enhancing Nurse’S Critical Soft Leadership Skills In New Healthcare Contexts, Nina Vaid Raoji

Yale School of Nursing Digital Theses

As the care of health shifts to a more decentralized model of care, it essential that the role of nursing facilitates new paths to meeting patients and communities where they are in the context of their lives, forging new partnerships outside of the traditional health care setting, and focusing on advocating for collective upstream solutions (Pittman, 2020). However, this shift requires a set of skills that are not a focus of current nurse leadership training. These are Soft Leadership Skills: networking, communication, teamwork, and innovation/creativity, but not in the traditional sense of the terms (Rao, 2017). The goal of this …

Evaluating The Sustainability Of A Colorectal Cancer Screening Improvement Intervention, Kimberly Bastin

DNP Projects

Background: Sustainability is a domain or characteristic of quality in healthcare that is not just about what may be delivered to patients today, but what can continue to be delivered to patients in the long term. Evidenced based interventions and quality improvement (QI) initiatives have led to major advancements in health care and have become expected in every clinical setting. Despite the amount of QI work taking place, there is limited evaluation of the sustainability of initially successful quality improvement efforts and a lack of evidence supporting best strategies and measures to ensure that improvement of goals and outcomes are …

While dietetic didactic and practice requirements emphasize EBP, there is a lack of a valid and reliable instrument that measures both objective and subjective knowledge of EBP among registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs). Content validity was conducted with 11 experts and resulted in a 38-item survey that included ten items assessing objective knowledge of EBP. Items were deemed clear and appropriate for the survey goals and intended audience based on a face validity review among 16 RDNs with varying backgrounds. A pilot evaluation (n = …

Examining Approaches For Peacebuilding In Post-Conflict, Post-Good Northern Ireland, Evan Wiley Smith

All ETDs from UAB

In this paper, I broadly describe the timeline of the conflict in Northern Ireland, examine negative and positive peace approaches to peacebuilding including political (or consociationalism-based), human rights-based, and reconciliation-based methods, and present my own conclusions based on the literature review I conducted as to the most efficacious strategy for ensuring long-lasting peace in Northern Ireland. To do this, I reviewed numerous articles, papers, and chapters on the conflict in Northern Ireland, approaches in post-conflict reconciliation, and conflict resolution theory. Because the conflict in Northern Ireland ended approximately twenty years ago, much of the research referenced in this paper is …

  • les gains économiques potentiels sont souvent évoqués et principalement en lien avec l’augmentation de la productivité;
  • la création de nouveaux métiers liés au développement de l’IA, la transformation ou l’élimination de certains métiers;
  • des transformations des conditions de travail sont anticipées, comme l’automatisation de tâches routinières et l’attribution de tâches complexes aux travailleurs.

Conséquemment, l’IA présente autant des avantages que des défis pour le monde du …

Navigating Success: First-Generation Pathways To Institutional Integration, Katherine B. Drumm

Theses and Dissertations

Guided pathways mobile applications are one technology-based tool that colleges and universities have implemented in an attempt to educate and guide students through the myriad steps necessary to matriculate, integrate and successfully graduate from their institution at scale. Using Bourdieu’s concepts of habitus and capital, Astin’s model of student involvement and Tinto’s model of student integration as a conceptual framework, and building upon the work of Slanger et al. (2015), this study investigated if the Educational Stress scale score from the College Student Inventory (CSI) can act as a measure of student habitus. In addition, this study used institutional data …

A Select Group: When Do Parties In Consensual Democracies Expand Their Leadership Selectorates?, James Godowic

Graduate Research Theses & Dissertations

This dissertation seeks to answer the question of when do parties in consensual parliamentary systems expand the group of people who can pick the party leader? Previous literature has offered two opposing theories of change. One is rooted in the exogenous factor of electoral performance as a catalyst for parties to change. The other focuses on the endogenous factor of internal party struggles between the party leadership and ideological activists occupying positions in the mid-level of the party. Using a regression analysis of six consensual parliamentary democracies and process tracing of six political parties in the previously unexamined case of …
