At the same time, the Black Lives Matter movement and the demand for more equity across institutions of all types have placed additional social …

Systems Thinking: The Organisation As A Living System, Kate Mills May 2021

Systems Thinking: The Organisation As A Living System, Kate Mills

Critical and Creative Thinking Capstones Collection

Systems thinking is a paradigm that challenges the dominant paradigm of linear, or mechanistic thinking. It is a paradigm based on the perspective that everything in a system is inter-connected and interrelated and that the interplay of components in the system creates an emergent quality with its own behaviour and characteristics. Systems thinking as such is suited to be used for analysis of organisations, as organisations can be seen as a system where the interplay of its components create emergent qualities such as the culture of the organisation. Within systems thinking there are living and non-living systems. Living systems, such …

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

This qualitative inquiry explored district-based educators’ sensemaking of an ongoing, statewide professional learning series focused on special education eligibility for students with specific learning disabilities (SLD) using a response-to-intervention (RtI) approach within a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS). Specifically, the professional learning series was designed as a community of practice (CoP; Lave & Wenger, 1991) with both face-to-face and virtual activities. The professional learning series was in its second year of implementation and educators in the first two cohorts (Cohort 1 and Cohort 2) of the series were the participants in this study. The theoretical framework of sensemaking (Weick, 1995) …

Factors Influencing Outsourcing Of Accounting Functions In Lebanese Small Medium-Sized Enterprises, Rasha Mohamad Mahboub Mrs.

BAU Journal - Creative Sustainable Development

Accounting functions (AF) play a significant role in aiding firms to sustain competitive advantage (CA). However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face troubles handling basic AF. This is primarily due to their dearth of proficiency and infrastructure. Consequently, outsourcing has come to be a substantial aspect of the thorough strategy of any SME to leverage its CA. In spite of the fact that outsourcing became very popular topic, this area has not been studied fully in emerging countries like Lebanon specifically in the industrial sector. Thus, this research aimed at examining the main factors affecting AF outsourcing in the Lebanese …

An Overlooked Dimension To Oira Review Of Tax Regulatory Actions, Kristin E. Hickman

Minnesota Law Review Headnotes, Vols. 94-106 (2009-2022)

In April 2018, the Treasury Department and the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement reversing an exemption and providing for the first time that significant tax regulatory actions would be subject to OIRA review under Executive Order 12866. The transition to the Biden administration has raised questions whether the Memorandum of Agreement should be reversed and most tax rules and regulations again exempted from OIRA review. Critiques of OIRA review in the tax context generally focus on disagreements over whether the benefit-cost analysis required by Executive Order 12866 is useful or should rely on …

Museums & Community Resilience: Improving Post-Crisis Outreach In Latinx Communities By Combining Library And Museum Practices, Sua Lorena Mendez

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Museums are held in the public trust and are accountable to their communities, including minority groups such as the Latinx population. Despite this, museums struggle to engage with Latinx communities, who are particularly affected during and after a crisis or emergency. Currently, museums do not have professional guidelines on supporting community resilience, or a community’s ability to respond to and recover from a crisis. In contrast, libraries, which function as similar community organizations, have field-wide community resilience plans and professional librarians have actively researched how libraries can assist their communities after a significant crisis. Using a multi-case library and museum …

Wastewater Remediation Technologies Using Macroscopic Graphene-Based Materials: A Perspective, Rajan Arjan Kalyan Hirani, Abdul Hannan Asif, Nasir Rafique, Lei Shi, Shu Zhang, Hong Wu, Hongqi Sun

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

Three-dimensional (3D) graphene-based macrostructures are being developed to combat the issues associated with two-dimensional (2D) graphene materials in practical applications. The 3D macrostructures (3DMs), for example, membranes, fibres, sponges, beads, and mats, can be formed by the self-assembly of 2D graphene-based precursors with exceptional surface area and unique chemistry. With rational design, the 3D macrostructures can then possess outstanding properties and exclusive structures. Thanks to various advantages, these macrostructures are competing in a variety of applications with promising performances unlike the traditional activated carbons, biochars and hydrochars, which have less flexibilities for modifications towards versatile applications. However, despite having such …

Dual Language Effectiveness To Narrow Achievement Gaps: A Quantitative Correlational Study, Belinda Reyes Ed.D.

Journal of English Learner Education

An increase in the English learner (EL) population is evident in public schools throughout the United States. Academic achievement gaps between ELs and non-EL peers persist from early childhood through the post-secondary level (Florida Department of Education, 2019c). The gap in the literature is the lack of studies analyzing the language acquisition of ELs enrolled in dual language programs to narrow the achievement gap of ELs. Transformative Learning Theory and the Dynamic Systems Theory are the foundation of the theoretical framework. Key research questions seek data on the relationship between standardized assessments measuring language acquisition and academic performance of third-grade …
