The entry into force of the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement on July 1st, 2020, ushered in a new era of regional trade for the region. The modernized agreement’s inclusion of a chapter specifically focused on expanding digital trade and investment reflected a business phenomenon that had expanded markedly over the last ten years: cross-border e-commerce within the former NAFTA region. This article examines the literature needed to assess the readiness of U.S. small and medium-sized businesses (SME’s) to sell to the Mexican market online based on the degree of localization of their firm’s websites towards the Mexican market. Maximizing Mobility In The Icu, Stephen Kupiec

Master's Projects and Capstones

Problem: In a large tertiary medical center in Northern California, the patients in the 20-bed ICU achieved averaged maximum mobility (AMM) scores well below the regional target. These patients had longer lengths of stay in the ICU and spent more days on ventilators, as compared to patients in other ICUs in the region. Barriers to mobilization included patient diagnosis, sedation practices, staff burnout, insufficient staffing, a knowledge deficit around the safety and benefits of mobility, lack of standard workflows, and lack of interdisciplinary collaboration.

Context: A microsystem assessment focused on metrics-that-matter to determine the focus of this quality improvement project. …

Trauma Informed Care In Alternative Education Settings, Cydney V. Quinn Aug 2021

Trauma Informed Care In Alternative Education Settings, Cydney V. Quinn

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Schools are considered to be the primary location for providing children with prevention and treatment for mental health symptoms, however, it is well documented that children’s mental health needs remain underserved. Especially at risk are children who have experienced trauma and other adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). Many children in this group are subject to disciplinary action, and are often removed from primary classrooms to alternative education placements (AEP) in an effort to manage behaviors. Therefore, it is important that alternative education teachers are trained in trauma-informed care (TIC). While it may be presumed that AEP staff would be well-versed in …

More Than Money: Establishing The Importance Of A Sense Of Purpose For Salespeople, Valerie Good, Douglas E. Hughes, Hao Wang Aug 2021

More Than Money: Establishing The Importance Of A Sense Of Purpose For Salespeople, Valerie Good, Douglas E. Hughes, Hao Wang

Peer Reviewed Articles

Much of the current research on salesperson motivation focuses on extrinsic reward expectancy related to compensation, contests, incentives, and quotas. We find that while salespeople want to make money, they also want to make a difference and contribute to society through their work. In Study 1, the qualitative findings reveal that a sense of purpose–the belief that one is making a contribution to a cause greater and more enduring than oneself–is a significant motivator for salespeople. Hence, in Study 2 we develop a measure for sense of purpose and distinguish it from related constructs. Finally, in Study 3 we use …

Neutrosophic Sets and Systems

How companies relate to customers and the global society has changed over time; those who do not use internet marketing and social networks have reduced their recognition. The archaic ways businesses handled their marketing have caused a considerable lag in their online sales and the many benefits they can offer. The revolution in the use of technology is currently fundamental for business; practitioners can find several areas to apply this resource, such as decision-making, teleworking, and sales, among others. This allows adapting business operations and services efficiently. Companies leverage a combination of cutting-edge technologies to modernize legacy business operations and …

Becoming An Ambidextrous Learning Organization: Leadership For Confidence In A Resource-Dependent Nonprofit Environment, Lena J. Patterson Aug 2021

Becoming An Ambidextrous Learning Organization: Leadership For Confidence In A Resource-Dependent Nonprofit Environment, Lena J. Patterson

The Dissertation in Practice at Western University

A leader in a nonprofit organization needs the confidence of their team to deliver stable, high-value services to stakeholders while simultaneously adapting to environmental changes. This balance is critical for the Collaborative, the nonprofit organization at the centre of this organizational improvement plan (OIP). The Collaborative’s operating conditions are characterized by reliance on short-term government funding, environmental uncertainty, complex stakeholder relationships, and a dual focus on social mission and financial viability. The problem of practice is a loss of confidence in leadership, which is triggered by these complex conditions. At the heart of this OIP is the argument that the …

In the wake of growing attempts to assess the validity of public reporting, much research has examined the effectiveness of public reporting regarding cost or quality of care. However, relatively little is known about whether transparency through public reporting significantly influences hospital efficiency despite its emerging expectations for providing value-based care. This study aims to identify the dynamics that transparency brought to the healthcare market regarding hospital technical efficiency, taking the role of competition into account. We compare the two public reporting schemes, All-Payer Claims Database (APCD) and Hospital Compare. Employing Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and a cross-sectional time-series Tobit …

Novelty And Success Of Healthcare Service Innovation: A Comparison Between China And The Netherlands, Yu Mu, Rujun Wang, Ying Huang Aug 2021

Novelty And Success Of Healthcare Service Innovation: A Comparison Between China And The Netherlands, Yu Mu, Rujun Wang, Ying Huang

University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing

Service innovation has been a hot research topic in general and also in the specific healthcare context. In the literature empirical evidence about the impact of novelty of service innovation on its success is inconclusive. A plausible explanation is that the used analytical frameworks do not fully capture the complexity of service innovation. This study employs a four-dimension framework of novelty and posits that the success of service innovation does not depend on individual dimensions. Based on the set-membership theory with a configurational analysis, as well as a comparison between Chinese and Dutch healthcare systems, this study puts forward propositions …

Supporting Teachers During Restorative Justice Implementation : The Role Of Silence, Reflection, And Dialogue, Nicole E. Menting-Wilson

Legacy Theses & Dissertations (2009 - 2024)

ABSTRACTAcross the United States, Restorative Justice (RJ) practices are adopted with the intent to transform zero-tolerant and neoliberal school environments into cultures of care. RJ utilizes dialogue, reflection, and silence as tools to honor human relationships, build community, and respect diversity. Although it is known that school change is intricately connected to teacher change, there has been little attention given on how to best support teachers during RJ implementation. This study engaged seven teachers and one school psychologist in bi-weekly circles over a period of three months around the topic of creating a culture of care. The study inquired how …

A Pedagogical Framework For A Paradigm Shift In Emergency Paramedic Training: Rescue Service Schools Between Requirement Conflicts And Learning Culture Development, Thomas Prescher, Heiko Konig, Christian Wiesner

University of South Florida (USF) M3 Publishing

The discussion around changing the culture of teaching and learning with a stronger focus on competence-oriented teaching within a framework of self-development and self-appropriation is not a new discussion in pedagogy. It is apparent that a competence-oriented learning paradigm is required, the need for its implementation has been clearly recognized, however the way to achieve it remains unclear. This paper outlines the paradigm of competence-oriented teaching and learning based on the understanding of constructive alignment. This is the basis for demonstrating, from a system-theoretical perspective, contradictions and conflicting requirements between the entities of the health care system, which can only …

Senior Administrators In Higher Education: Following The Feminist Road To The Ivory Tower, Angelina Gomez Aug 2021

Senior Administrators In Higher Education: Following The Feminist Road To The Ivory Tower, Angelina Gomez

Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations

Today there is a considerable amount of literature documenting the gender oppression of women in the American workforce, including academia. This study will help bridge the literature gap by sharing the exploits of four elite women who overcame barriers created through university policy and procedures, historical academe culture, and genderism.

A narrative analysis methodology was used to examine the ideology of leadership within …
