Human-Machine Communication
For billions of people, the threat of the Novel Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and its variants has precipitated the adoption of new behaviors. Pandemics are radical events that disrupt the gradual course of societal change, offering the possibility that some rapidly adopted innovations will persist in use past the time period of the event and, thus, diffuse more rapidly than in the absence of such an event. Human-machine communication includes a range of technologies with which many of us have quickly become more familiar due to stay-athome orders, distancing, workplace closures, remote instruction, home-bound entertainment, fear of contracting COVID-19, and boredom. In …

Innovativeness And Church Commitment: What Innovations Were Most Important During The Pandemic?, Anna Covarrubias, David R. Dunaetz, Wendi Dykes Mcgehee
Great Commission Research Journal
The COVID-19 pandemic created an unprecedented need for innovations in churches around the world. Organizational innovativeness, a precursor of successful innovations in organizational contexts, is rarely studied in churches. This study of American church attenders (N = 244) found that perceived innovativeness of churches (conceived of as the elements of a church’s culture which promote innovation, specifically, creativity, organizational openness, future orientation, risk-taking, and proactiveness) was a very strong predictor of church commitment (conceived of as intentions to stay in the church, r = .60, p < .001). Of the moderators examined in this study (membership tenure, age of participant, church size, and gender), only gender moderated this relationship; the relationship between perceived innovativeness and church commitment was stronger for females than for males. This suggests that innovations that facilitated relationship development and relationship maintenance had the greatest impact on church commitment during the pandemic.

Center for Health Policy and Health Services Research Articles
BACKGROUND: Insights from behavioral economics, or how individuals' decisions and behaviors are shaped by finite cognitive resources (e.g., time, attention) and mental heuristics, have been underutilized in efforts to increase the use of evidence-based practices in implementation science. Using the example of firearm safety promotion in pediatric primary care, which addresses an evidence-to-practice gap in universal suicide prevention, we aim to determine: is a less costly and more scalable behavioral economic-informed implementation strategy (i.e., "Nudge") powerful enough to change clinician behavior or is a more intensive and expensive facilitation strategy needed to overcome implementation barriers?

Organizational Change: Where Have All The Leaders Gone When Creating Anti-Harassment Cultures, Krystal Brue
Organizational Change: Where Have All The Leaders Gone When Creating Anti-Harassment Cultures, Krystal Brue
Administrative Issues Journal
Media coverage of recent high-profile sexual harassment scandals and subsequent #MeToo publicity confirms that sexual harassment continues to plague corporate cultures. Organizations have previously relied on professional training and policy creations to address workplace misconduct. These initiativesare primarilypredicatedon legal and compliance efforts to reduce misconduct and maintain more harassment free environments. Even with calls from regulatory agencies and media coverage, corporate cultures do not appear to have changed. This exploratory investigation suggests that organizationscontinue to rely on established methods of addressing sexual harassment and shouldutilize behavioral modeling to improve corporate cultures. Ideas forwarded within thispaper will begin discussions regarding the …

Determinants And Outcomes Of Psychological Contract Fulfillment Between Principals And Teachers: A Comparative Analysis In Charter And Regular Public Schools, Necati Sahin
Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the current study was to comparatively analyze the determinants and outcomes of teachers’ psychological contract fulfillment in charter and regular public schools. Guided by the relevant literature, teachers’ trust in their principals, teachers’ obligations, and principals’ obligations were the determinants of psychological contract fulfillment. The outcome variables were teachers’ extra role behaviors and teachers’ in-role job performance. Principal’s authentic leadership was involved as the moderating variable between psychological contract fulfillment and outcome variables. The participants were the teachers and principals who worked at charter schools and regular public schools in central Arkansas. In total, 198 participants (85 …

Municipal Consolidation And Organizational Realities: A Case From New York City, Bakry Elmedni, Sade V. Mcintosh, Beverly P. Lyons
Journal of Public Management & Social Policy
Consolidation in the public sector has always been conceptualized as a tool for enhancing service provision and fiscal responsibility. The evidence is dubious in both front. Using self-administered questionnaire and follow-up interviews, this study attempts to explain why the merger of two NYC agencies (DJJ into ACS) is incomplete after six years based on employees’ perception. The paper contends that a well-designed and carefully-negotiated merger can lead to harmony while meeting the intended goals of the new organization. The study concludes that because of insufficient efforts in the three phases of merger (pre-merger, during and post-merger), employees were oblivious to …
Automation: Creative Destruction And The Race For Equilibrium, Dustin Rabi
Automation: Creative Destruction And The Race For Equilibrium, Dustin Rabi
Journal of the National Association of Administrative Law Judiciary
The inevitable transition to an automation-driven workforce, economy, and society is generating excitement in some and discomfort in others. Researchers have estimated that anywhere between 10—50% of today’s jobs are susceptible to automation. Furthermore, private firms are highly incentivized to adopt new technologies as a way to remain competitive in their respective markets. In anticipation of this potential economic paradigm shift, Congress requested the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) to obtain more ascertainable data as to what is currently understood about how the adoption of advanced technologies will affect the U.S. workforce. Nine months after the report was published, on …
Listen To Your Doppelganger! Global Cultural Empathy For Educators: A Literature Review Based Conceptual Model, Papia Bawa Dr.
Listen To Your Doppelganger! Global Cultural Empathy For Educators: A Literature Review Based Conceptual Model, Papia Bawa Dr.
Journal of Research Initiatives
Our student populations' diversity now includes African Americans, Native Americans, and Latinos, as classrooms represent various cultural backgrounds. This shift in student population dynamics brings fresh challenges to educator's unpreparedness to identify with the unique cultural identities of international students. The cultural dissonance that international students face compounds this challenge since the cultural unawareness and misconceptions may be generated from both educators and student groups. The Doppelganger Inspired Change Effect model or DICE discussed in this article is inspired by an extensive literature review. It elucidates a process of fostering global cultural empathy and preparedness of educators by linking such …

High School Journalism Advisors And African American Students, Jerry Crawford Ii
Journal of Research Initiatives
This study examined whether African American participation in high school journalism is lower than the participation of other students in the State of Kansas. Past research has found that participation in high school newspapers and yearbook staff is often the pathway for students to consider careers in journalism. For the sake of this study, participation was defined as "any school-directed journalistic activity or program where students are allowed to produce content." This study used a questionnaire sent to 100 high school advisers and teachers, experimentally accessible in the state, administered over three years as the survey instrument. The response rate …
Hbcu Administrators And The Covid-19: Dealing With The Pandemic Under The Pressure Of Funding And Self-Care, Jerry Crawford
Hbcu Administrators And The Covid-19: Dealing With The Pandemic Under The Pressure Of Funding And Self-Care, Jerry Crawford
Journal of Research Initiatives
Historically Black Colleges and University presidents and chancellors have been facing challenges similar to administrators at other institutions of higher learning. These demands center on accreditation, federal and state funding, and enrollment. COVID-19 has heightened each of these essential functions that administrators have as priorities.
There has been a lot of research on the roles and responsibilities of HBCU administrators and how there has been a seemingly revolving door at these institutions, and how many have found them to be more autocratic than inclusive in governance. In addition, the coronavirus pandemic has added to the pressure and expectations administrators must …

The Development Of A Cyber Safety Culture, Rory Hopcraft, Kimberly Tam, Kemedi Moara-Nkwe, Kevin Jones
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
A rise in catastrophic events as a result of poor safety management (e.g. the capsizing of the Herald of Free Enterprise and Costa Concordia), has driven the maritime sector to seek improvements in its safety management. This paper will explore the vital role of the human element within safety management, and why, as part of that safety management companies must foster a safety culture. The development of safety cultures is not new to the maritime sector. However, the increase in connected systems within the sector (e.g. satellite communications etc.) means these safety cultures must now consider the risks posed by …

Readiness Of Counselor Education And Supervision For Suicide Training: A Cqr Study, Jenny L. Cureton, Elysia V. Clemens, Janessa Henninger, Connie Couch
Journal of Counselor Preparation and Supervision
The Counselor Education and Supervision professional community is responsible for providing training on suicide to Master’s students in counseling. Elevated suicide rates and historically insufficient training along with updated practice, ethical, and accreditation standards necessitate changes to counselor preparation on suicide. Readiness assessment can support the CES community’s aims to meet such standards. A Consensual Qualitative Research team utilized a community readiness framework to analyze interviews with fifteen educators, administrators, and supervisors in diverse CACREP-accredited programs. Readiness findings inform counselor preparation and policy at the course, program, state, and national level.

In this study contemporary literature, theological foundations, surveys of church leaders in the United States, and interviews with collaborative church and ministry leaders from around the United States are evaluated to determine the need for greater collaboration for the health and revitalization of church and ministries. The findings of this research argue that contemporary church growth strategies that emerged from the recent church growth movement may actually inhibit church revitalization efforts …

Evaluating Residents-As-Teachers Programs: Challenges And Lessons Learned, Jen-Feng Liang, Geeta Singhal, Ying-Ying Yang, Chen-Huan Chen
Journal of Medical Education
Residents-as-teachers (RaT) programs are believed to offer benefits in enabling residents to become more effective teachers. However, these programs are quite resource-intensive; therefore, it is critical to understand the effectiveness of these programs. Evaluating RaT programs is challenging and requires special consideration because residents play dual roles as clinical teachers and trainees. The program evaluation is a trade-off between the participation of busy residents and the reliability of the data. In addition, the beneficial effects on residents themselves as well as their institutions are typically not considered in effectiveness evaluations. In this article, we share our experience in evaluating our …

Data Analytics (Ab)Use In Healthcare Fraud Audits, Jared Koreff, M. Weisner, S. G. Sutton
School of Business Faculty Research
This study explores how government-adopted audit data analytic tools promote the abuse of power by auditors enabling politically sensitive processes that encourage industry-wide normalization of behavior. In an audit setting, we investigate how a governmental organization enables algorithmic decision-making to alter power relationships to effect organizational and industry-wide change. While prior research has identified discriminatory threats emanating from the deployment of algorithmic decision-making, the effects of algorithmic decision-making on inherently imbalanced power relationships have received scant attention. Our results provide empirical evidence of how systemic and episodic power relationships strengthen each other, thereby enabling the governmental organization to effect social …

The Influence Of Evidence-Based Sex Discrimination Policies On Women’S Perceptions Of Organizational Climate, Sexism, And Identity Safety, Maya A. Godbole
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Sexism has proven to be a stubborn barrier to women’s participation and advancement in workplaces and academic institutions (Rosette, Akinola, & Ma, 2017). Importantly, sexism in organizational settings has endured despite the implementation of federal, state, and organizational policies that prohibit discriminatory behavior. One reason for this may be that because organizational policies are typically written for the purpose of complying to federal and state laws, they do little to foster psychological safety among employees and address the “chilly” organizational climates that enable sexism. To that end, the current research aimed to (a) develop novel, evidence-based sex discrimination policies and …

Abstract:
Students face increased mental health challenges, including depression, anxiety, trauma, racial trauma, and suicide risk, in addition to opportunity gaps. Despite educators’ work to support students through mental health services and despite the existence of social emotional learning (SEL) programs within the school environment, the impact on student learning and long-term post high school outcomes can feel overwhelming. There is also a perception that the responsibility for SEL belongs only to social workers, psychologists and counselors. The primary research question is; how does embedding of SEL practices vary within instructional, non-instructional, and leadership roles? The related questions are: to …
