Development Of A Spiramycin Sensor Based On Adsorptive Stripping Linear Sweepvoltammetry And Its Application For The Determination Of Spiramycin In Chicken Eggsamples, Mustafa Ci̇ttan

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Herein, an adsorptive stripping linear sweep voltammetric technique was described to determine spiramycin, a macrolide antibiotic, using a carboxylic multiwalled glassy carbon electrode modified with carbon nanotubes. The main principle of the analytical methodology proposed was based on the preconcentration of spiramycin by open-circuit accumulation of the macrolide onto the modified electrode surface. As a result of the adsorption affinity of spiramycin to the modified surface, the sensitivity of the glassy carbon electrode was significantly increased for the determination of spiramycin. The electrochemical behavior of spiramycin was evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and the irreversible anodic peak observed was measured as …

Analysis Of Designs Used In Monitoring Crop Growth Based On Remote Sensing Methods, Cristina Teodora Dobrota, Rahela Carpa, Anca Butiuc-Keul

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

Choosing appropriate designs and methods for monitoring crop growth is a challenging process of major importance. Remote sensing from space and manned or unmanned airborne operations are used to measure crop reflectance and a wide variety of other agricultural parameters. While some experiments use only a few, specific methods and designs and organize the results in lists of evidence, other experiments use a wider range of techniques to create a more credible and comprehensive assessment of crop yield. Particular situations related to the available resources in terms of data collection and expertise in addition to the intended use of the …

Morphological And Molecular Characterization Of Croatian Carob Tree(Ceratonia Siliqua L.) Germplasm, Snjezana Bolaric, Ivna Dragojevic Müller, Ales Vokurka, Dubravka Vitali Cepo, Mirko Ruscic, Sinisa Srecec, Dario Kremer Jan 2021

Morphological And Molecular Characterization Of Croatian Carob Tree(Ceratonia Siliqua L.) Germplasm, Snjezana Bolaric, Ivna Dragojevic Müller, Ales Vokurka, Dubravka Vitali Cepo, Mirko Ruscic, Sinisa Srecec, Dario Kremer

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

The results of morphological and AFLP variability of 120 plants of carob tree (Ceratonia siliqua L.), collected from 12 different locations (10 biological replicates for each location) on the coast and islands of the southern Croatian Adriatic, indicate high molecular and morphological variability among these carob populations. Analysis of molecular variance revealed significant differences among populations (26.07%; p < 0.001; a = 0.05). Out of the total variability, 22.49% refers to the variability among, and 77.51% within populations. UPGMA and STRUCTURE analysis based on AFLP genetic data clustered carob populations into three main groups representing three real genetic populations. UPGMA analysis based on morphological traits of leaves, pods, and seeds clustered carob populations into five groups. Mantel test showed significant correlation between morphological and genetic data (r = 0.58, p < 0.001; a = 0.05). According to the high genetic and morphological variability, the germplasm collection in the analysis could represent an important genetic pool for future breeding programmes. The goal of future research should be the conservation of C. siliqua in its natural habitats, and the establishment of gene banks of genetic resources with the purpose of creating new carob cultivars in breeding programmes.

Turkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry

It is known that a polymorphic population consisting of a large number of genotypes adapts more rapidly to the environment conditions. The availability of a large gene pool predetermines the success of the introduction and further breeding of new cultivars with economically valuable features. Morphometrics is a classical tool for studying the amplitude of the variability of cultivated plants and evaluating the genotypic diversity of the artificial population. The objective of this study was to evaluate the morphological parameters of Lonicera caerulea L. fruits for 26 genotypes from the population introduced in the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden (Kyiv). Morphological …

Effect Of Vanadium (Iv) Chloride Supplementation On Appetite-Related Hormone Levels Inrats With Experimentally Induced Diabetes, Tünay Kontaş Aşkar, Adnan Adi̇l Hi̇şmi̇oğullari, Olga Büyükleblebi̇ci̇, Hati̇ce Nur Er Sarikaya Jan 2021

Effect Of Vanadium (Iv) Chloride Supplementation On Appetite-Related Hormone Levels Inrats With Experimentally Induced Diabetes, Tünay Kontaş Aşkar, Adnan Adi̇l Hi̇şmi̇oğullari, Olga Büyükleblebi̇ci̇, Hati̇ce Nur Er Sarikaya

Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences

Vanadium is one of the essential trace elements for mammals, which has important functions in the metabolism of carbohydrates. There is limited data about the effects of vanadium (IV) chloride supplementation on appetite-related hormones in literature. Our target was to analyse the impacts of vanadium supplementation on appetite-related hormone (leptin, nesfatin-1 and apelin) levels in rats with experimentally induced diabetes. Twenty eight male Sprague-Dawley albino rats were used in this study. After formation of diabetes, 0.3 mg/mL of vanadium was added to drinking water of rats for four weeks. A substantial increment was found in serum glucose (p < 0.001), HbA1c (p < 0.001), HOMA-IR (p < 0.01), and leptin (p < 0.001) levels and a significant decrease in insulin, apelin and nesfatin-1 concentrations in diabetic rats. Moreover, blood glucose, HbA1c, HOMA-IR, and leptin levels decreased in diabetic + vanadium group, but nesfatin-1 (1.74 ± 0.94 ng/mL), apelin (1.74 ± 0.94 ng/mL), and insulin concentrations were found higher compared with the diabetic group. As a result of this study, vanadium has increased the levels of circulating nesfatin-1 and apelin levels in diabetic rats while decreasing blood glucose and leptin concentrations. But further studies are required to determine the blood glucose lowering effects of vanadium and its relationship with appetite related hormones in diabet.

The Modern Use Of The Extended Humeral Head (Cuff Tear Arthropathy) Hemiarthroplasty., Tyler J Smith, Sarav S Shah, Justin W Peterson, Glen Ross

Orthopedic Surgery Resident Research

Today, the treatment of osteoarthritis in the rotator cuff-deficient population is largely dominated by reverse shoulder arthroplasty (RSA). Despite the popularity of and increased familiarity with this procedure, the complication rate of RSA remains significant. An extended humeral head hemiarthroplasty may provide a less invasive alternative for select patients with cuff tear arthropathy (CTA) and preserved glenohumeral active elevation. With the indications for reverse arthroplasty expanding to younger patients, there are concerns about the longevity of this implant, as well as the associated revision burden. In the setting of failed RSA, the bone stock available for glenosphere baseplate fixation can …

Incorporating Psychological Trauma Into Adhd Differentials: A Pilot Study Of Primary Care Providers' Perspectives, Amber Nipper

PsyD Program in Clinical Psychology Doctoral Dissertations (Seattle)

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP, n.d.), 40% to 50% of individuals seeking mental health services terminate prematurely due to lack of access, lack of transportation, financial constraints, child mental health professional shortages, and stigma related to mental health. These barriers contribute to primary care providers assessing and managing mental health concerns at increasing rates, particularly symptoms consistent with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). ADHD is a neurobiological disorder beginning in childhood that is defined as “a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity that interferes with functioning or development” (American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013, p. 59). Current literature shows …

Mental Health Effects Of Maternal Substance Abuse Policymaking: Finding A Solution, Sarah Foster Jan 2021

Mental Health Effects Of Maternal Substance Abuse Policymaking: Finding A Solution, Sarah Foster

West Chester University Doctoral Projects

While each state has varying substance abuse laws and resources for those seeking treatment, many states have regulations that criminally charge expectant mothers seeking substance abuse treatment. Restrictive policies like these encourage these women to conceal their addiction to avoid criminal retaliation and stigmatization. These effects reverberate through communities plagued with poverty, forcing these women to choose between being clean and sober or protecting their children and freedom. Thus, this dissertation examined the adverse effects that strict substance abuse policies have on expectant mothers and suggest that more people in this position would seek treatment if these policies were less …

Follow The Metaplasia: Characteristics And Oncogenic Implications Of Metaplasia's Pattern Of Spread Throughout The Stomach, José B Sáenz

Open Access Publications

The human stomach functions as both a digestive and innate immune organ. Its main product, acid, rapidly breaks down ingested products and equally serves as a highly effective microbial filter. The gastric epithelium has evolved mechanisms to appropriately handle the myriad of injurious substances, both exogenous and endogenous, to maintain the epithelial barrier and restore homeostasis. The most significant chronic insult that the stomach must face is

Harnessing The Potential Of Multiomics Studies For Precision Medicine In Infectious Disease, Rebecca A. Ward, Philip A. Mudd, Rachel M. Presti, Andrej Spec, Et Al

Open Access Publications

The field of infectious diseases currently takes a reactive approach and treats infections as they present in patients. Although certain populations are known to be at greater risk of developing infection (eg, immunocompromised), we lack a systems approach to define the true risk of future infection for a patient. Guided by impressive gains in "omics" technologies, future strategies to infectious diseases should take a precision approach to infection through identification of patients at intermediate and high-risk of infection and deploy targeted preventative measures (ie, prophylaxis). The advances of high-throughput immune profiling by multiomics approaches (ie, transcriptomics, epigenomics, metabolomics, proteomics) hold …

School of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences: Faculty Publications

Background: Food insecurity is a global problem that requires a One Health approach. As many households in low- and middle-income nations rely on crops and livestock that they produce to meet their household’s needs, food security and nutrition are closely linked to the health of animals and the environment. Resources controlled by women are more often allocated to uses that benefit the entire household, such as food, health, and educating children, than men’s resources. However, studies of gender control of resources among pastoralist societies are scant. We examined the effect of female and male control of livestock resources on food …

Impact Of Ethnic Markets On Food Accessibility In Lincoln, Ne, Connor Mcfayden Jan 2021

Impact Of Ethnic Markets On Food Accessibility In Lincoln, Ne, Connor Mcfayden

Department of Environmental Studies: Undergraduate Student Theses

This study used availability surveys and demographic mapping to analyze the impact of ethnic grocery stores on food accessibility in Lincoln, Nebraska. Access to fresh, healthy foods has been shown to be an important factor in public health, one in which low-income and minority populations are more likely to experience barriers such as long distances to the nearest grocery store. A growing body of research has described ethnic markets as important sources of fresh, healthy food for vulnerable populations, but on the whole the contributions of ethnic markets are overlooked in policy and research. In addition, ethnic markets may face …

Effects Of Land Use In Nebraska On Insect Biodiversity And Eastern Monarch Populations, Carina Olivetti Jan 2021

Effects Of Land Use In Nebraska On Insect Biodiversity And Eastern Monarch Populations, Carina Olivetti

Department of Environmental Studies: Undergraduate Student Theses

How are Nebraska land use decisions affecting eastern monarch butterfly decline? What are the driving factors causing monarch decline? What are the challenges of insect monitoring and data organizing? The purpose of this exploratory research project was to investigate these questions and simultaneously illustrate the importance of insect biodiversity, focusing largely on the monarch butterfly. The eastern population of the monarch butterfly has declined 80% over the past two decades. The state of Nebraska lies within their migratory path and is therefore critical to their survival. The hypothesis is that monarch populations are declining because of the combined impacts of …

Responses Of Predatory Myxobacteria To Prey Signaling Molecules & Features Of A Pseudomonas Prey Avoiding Predation, Shukria Akbar Jan 2021

Responses Of Predatory Myxobacteria To Prey Signaling Molecules & Features Of A Pseudomonas Prey Avoiding Predation, Shukria Akbar

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Gram-negative unicellular myxobacteria, along with their multicellular lifestyle andbiologically active specialized metabolites, are known for the predatory interactions with Gram-negative/ Gram-positive bacteria and fungi. Although myxobacterial predation range have been exploited extensively, little is known about the prey associated molecules contributing to myxobacterial predator-prey dynamics. By employing transcriptomics and untargeted metabolomics approaches, we demonstrate two structurally distinct classes of signaling molecules from Gram-negative bacterial prey elicit significant omics responses from myxobacteria, Myxococcus xanthus and Cystobacter ferrugineus. An overlapping and general response to acylhomoserine lactones, whereas a distinctive response to a quinolone signaling molecule is observed from both myxobacteria. Similarly, by …

Unmaking Masculine Determinacy : A Postmodern Challenge In Suzan-Lori Parks’ Venus, Usa Padgate

Manusya, Journal of Humanities

Venus, a play written by Suzan-Lori Parks, employs unconventional theatrical approaches in retelling the history of a 19th-century freak show attraction. This study examines how the critique of gender bias and sexual manipulations in Venus is explored and projected in ways that can be described as postmodern. Through the subversion of conventional forms and language, the blending of fact and fiction, the pastiches of both low and high generic and linguistic presentations, the liberating of a marginalized voice, and the revision of the philosophical premises that subordinate the female to the male order, the play questions the masculine determinacy …

Natural Language Processing For Digital Advertising, Yiping Jin Jan 2021

Natural Language Processing For Digital Advertising, Yiping Jin

Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)

Advertising is not only a marketing or sales activity but a particular form of two-way communication. In this thesis, we propose to apply the two main subtasks of natural language processing (NLP), namely natural language understanding (NLU) and natural language generation (NLG), to digital advertising to enhance the effectiveness of advertising. We apply weakly-supervised text classification to rapidly build text classifiers for contextual advertising (Jin et al. 2022). The method requires a handful of labeled keywords instead of a large corpus of labeled documents and can be easily transferred to new domains. We further evaluate the weakly-supervised models using unsupervised …

Hospital-Acquired Condition Ranking Score Among Types Of Safety-Net Hospitals, Jude C. Iruka Jan 2021

Hospital-Acquired Condition Ranking Score Among Types Of Safety-Net Hospitals, Jude C. Iruka

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Abstract The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services has been shifting from paying hospitals for the volume of services they delivered to paying them for the quality of those services, known as pay-for-performance, to incentivize hospitals to offer improved care at a lower cost. When a patient goes to the hospital to receive care for one condition and develops another condition during that hospital stay, the second condition is referred to as a hospital-acquired condition. It is anticipated that 1.7 million infections are acquired at some point in-hospital stay in the United States annually, resulting in nearly 100,000 deaths in …
