We investigated the effects of different placement methods of applying slow-release fertilizer on the growth and foliar nutrients of three contrasting tree species (i.e., fast-growing Betula platyphylla and Larix kaempferi and slow-growing Chamaecyparis obtusa) to provide implications for increasing their growth and survival in marginal forest lands. We applied 84 g pot-1 of solid compound fertilizer (SCF) at different positions: no fertilization (CON), subsurface placement (SCFs), and bottom placement [35-cm depth (SCFb)] in a greenhouse condition. Tea and hazelnut cultivated soils are mainly distributed in Black Sea region of Turkey. Low pH value is a primary problem for those soils; therefore, farmers apply lime once every 3-4 years to raise the pH value of soil. Gyttja is highly rich in organic matter (40.59%) and lime (45.67%), and it is a low cost and considerably abundant in Afşin-Elbistan Coal Basin (estimated reserve is around 4.8 billion tons). The article presents the results of studying the biochemical composition of the large worldwide vegetable crops collection of the Brassicaceae family, stored at the N. I. Vavilov All-Russian Institute Institute of Plant Genetic Resources (VIR), St. Petersburg, Russia, consisting of 7303 accessions of different status (approximately 50% unique accessions) from 98 countries. Dry bean (phaseolus vulgaris L.) field experiment was carried out under the subhumid climatic conditions of Bafra, Turkey, to evaluate the possibilities of using hyperspectral reflectance data for estimating yield and water consumption. Three irrigation management treatments that depend on monitoring soil water content and one rain-fed treatment were subjected to dry beans arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. In addition to soil water measurements, hyperspectral reflectance observations were made throughout the dry beans? growing season. Soil salinity threatens the yield and food security worldwide and use of halophytes might be a valid option to cope with devastating salinity effects. The present investigation was accomplished to evaluate the role of glycine betaine (GB) as presowing seed treatment on growth parameters, photosynthetic pigments, gas exchange attributes, enzymatic antioxidants, lipid peroxidation (MDA), hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 ), endogenous GB, total soluble proteins (TSP), and yield in quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa) under saline conditions. An important environmental cause of these conditions is the altered composition of gut microbiota, which is influenced by the host diet. This research aims to investigate the scope of fisetin (FIT)/β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) inclusion complexes with the ratios of 1:2 and 2:1 mole by means of freeze-drying, kneading and physical mixing methods (controlled process). Moreover, the complex compounds are analyzed by Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The results show that the most suitable preparation method of fisetin (FIT)/β-CD complex is the freeze-drying method with the fisetin (FIT) to β-CD ratio at 1:2. The leaves of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) are agricultural waste that is burnt before harvesting. This project aims to find an alternative way to increase the value of sugarcane leaves and decrease air pollution by using the leaves as raw material to produce succinic acid and biochar. Reducing sugars were extracted from the leaves by H2SO4 hydrolysis. The sugars were then fermented by Yarrowia lipolytica TBRC 4417 to produce succinic acid. The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the etiology and classification of mental disorders as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5). Students will learn to utilize diagnostic information to conduct diagnostic interviews, conceptualize the presenting problem, and write diagnostic assessments in order to facilitate case management, treatment plan development, and therapeutic interventions with people seeking/receiving mental health counseling services. Instructional methodology will include lectures, case studies presented in class, diagnostic activities using dyadic and small group activities, and other instructional modalities designed to facilitate the learning process.

This paper investigates the actions and practices for connected discourse in English conversation. Three university students met weekly for 94 weeks to practice speaking and were video recorded. Each participant made a 10 min presentation about a topic of interest and then the three participants had a conversation. Using ethnomethodological conversation analysis (CA), we examined how participants moved from an orientation to one type of speech exchange system (the monologic presentation) to another (the ‘conversation’) and specifically, the actions and practices for getting the conversation started. Lead (Pb) is ubiquitous in the environment and exposure can have adverse health effects even at low concentrations, particularly in young children. Blood lead levels (BLLs) are the best indicator of recent Pb exposure. Based upon data from the NHANES, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) blood Pb (BPb) reference value, defined as the 97.5th percentile of children 1-5 years old, was lowered from 10 μg/dL to 5 μg/dL in 2012. According to more recent NHANES data, the 97.5th percentile has decreased to 3.5 μg/dL. If the CDC recommends a further lowering of the BPb reference value, many …

The life sequence and human capital accumulation of women have changed in the US. This dissertation intends to propose three interrelated studies that investigate the possible trajectories of human capital accumulation after women’s transition to motherhood, the determinants of these trajectories, and the implications for women and their children’s wellbeing. Driven by the life course perspective, the cumulative advantage and disadvantage theory, and Bourdieu’s cultural framework, this dissertation uses mothers’ vocational training experiences to identify distinct trajectories over time in the first study. Introduction. Academic work on vegans is biased towards studying educated White women, despite evidence that vegans having varying identities. The lack of diversity in research has implications for our understanding of psychological issues that affect vegans. Data regarding mental health of vegans is mixed, due to a failure to account for differing identities and experiences. Past work has shown gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity/race, and experiences with discrimination to impact mental health. Objective: Cognitive and behavioral inflexibility, or the inability to respond flexibly and adaptively to changing environmental demands, are hallmark features of eating disorders (ED). Individuals with EDs exhibit inflexibility across domains, often including in exercise behaviors, manifesting as exercise dependence and rigid workout routines. The purpose of this study was to assess how different motives for exercise are differentially associated with cognitive and behavioral flexibility, a marker of EDs. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) constitute a broad class of anthropogenic chemicals that have been used in numerous industrial and consumer-product applications since the late 1940s. This dissertation explores the academic and social-emotional supports and constraints that impact the literacy learning of highly mobile students in an urban elementary school, utilizing interview, questionnaire, and achievement data from transient students and educational professionals who work with them. It examines a school year of highly mobile student experiences in literacy-learning across a wide range of factors and environments, considering student and educator observations, reflections, and participation, through different schools and across various settings in their current/newest school (in classrooms, at lunch, recess, rehearsals, and specials, working with social or academic service providers, etc.). Recent years have witnessed a steadily increasing scholarly interest in perceptions of corruption, particularly in terms of level and prevalence. However, previous studies have largely overlooked perceived seriousness as another unique dimension of corruption perception. Furthermore, previous studies seeking causes of corruption perception have failed to consider cultural factors at either the individual or aggregate level as potential predictors. Forensic entomology is the study of insects that colonize human/animal wounds and remains and their development for use in legal contexts. It has numerous facets and applications including: estimation of time since death; investigation of neglect/abuse of children and the elderly; and determination of the presence of toxins and drugs as a potential cause of death. There is currently an increased demand for foodstuffs that are classified as gluten‐free including beer. Beer produced using gluten‐free grains has a distinct flavor profile that differs greatly from that of beer produced from gluten‐containing grains. The chemical difference between beers made from these two different grain sources has been explored and some key differences have been identified. Here malt sources containing gluten (barley) and malt without gluten (sorghum) were used to determine which compounds are statistically different based upon their concentrations. This case study examined four impoverished middle schools in South Carolina to identify the factors prevalent in successfully performing impoverished middle schools which set them apart from underperforming impoverished middle schools. The study’s objective was to provide principals working in similar (impoverished) settings an understanding of the factors they might wish to replicate in improving school achievement. Data were collected from several sources. Neurotensin (NT) is a nutrient-regulated gut hormone that plays important roles in lipid absorption, obesity, metabolic disorders, and normal and neoplastic growth in the intestine. In this study, we 1) elucidate the mechanisms regulating NT release from endocrine cells, 2) examine the role of NT on proliferation and stem cell function in the small intestine and 3) define the effects of NT on colorectal cancer stem cells. We report that NT release from endocrine cells is enhanced by the MAPK scaffold protein Kinase Suppressor of Ras 1 (KSR1) and the exocyst complex component 70 (Exo70). Insulin dysregulation (ID) is the main risk factor for the development of hyperinsulinemia-associated laminitis (HAL). ID in the equid has been extensively researched; however, recommendations for diagnosing and managing ID horses have originated from work completed in other models, such as the ID pony and healthy horse.
