Effects Of Tacrolimus On C-Fos In Hippocampus And Memory Performances Instreptozotocin Model Of Alzheimer's Disease Of Rats, Ayşe Köylü, Berri̇n Zühal Altunkaynak, Burcu Deli̇baş

Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences

Background/aim: Calcineurin, an inhibitor of calcium dependent phosphatase is highly presented in a brain of an Alzheimer?s disease. Aging brain gets more sensitive to hyperactivation of calcineurin, and this event causes tau neurofibrillary plaque accumulation, which is one of the outcomes of this disease. The regions of hippocampus are much effected from the results of this process. Our hypothesis is that a calcineurin inhibitor, tacrolimus, could prevent the accumulation and the decrease of the neuronal cells. Therefore, this immunosuppressive drug could be a candidate for an early treatment of Alzheimer disease. Materials and methods: Fifteen male Wistar albino rats were …

Natural Animal Food Preference Of Chinese Mole Shrew (Anourosorex Squamipes) From An Urban Area: A Laboratory Study, Yun-Chun Ye, Yi Luo, Zhao-Min Zhou

Turkish Journal of Zoology

Most wild animals are urban avoiders, but some others become adapters or exploiters successfully living in urban areas. Often, the latter is assumed to be attracted into cities by readily accessible and digestive anthropogenic food resources. Here, we quantified food preferences of sixteen (eight females and eight males) Chinese mole shrews (Anourosorex squamipes) captured from an urban area for "cafeteria tests" in laboratory. Shrews were presented with twelve foods allocated into three sets (natural animal, natural plant, and anthropogenic food). Once the most two highly consumed food items from each set were determined, six items were pooled together to form …

Background and aim: Creating potential clinical markers for risk assessment in patients with COVID-19 continues to be an area of interest. In this study, we aimed to evaluate whether serum albumin level and thrombocyte/lymphocyte ratio are related to the severity of the disease. Materials and methods: The patients were divided into two groups according to the severity of disease. Demographic data, serum albumin value, lymphocyte count, TLO-1 values (thrombocyte/lymphocyte ratio-1), the highest thrombocyte count during hospitalization, TLO-2 (thrombocyte/lymphocyte ratio-2) values formed by the highest thrombocyte count, were recorded. Results: There was no statistically significant differences (P > 0.05) in terms of …

Background/aim: Although the cause of immune activation in the pathogenesis of psoriasis is still unclear, miRs are thought to have an effect on psoriasis. This work aimed to evaluate the role of miRs (miR-4649-3p, miR-6867-5p, miR-4296, miR-210, and miR-1910-3p) that target the FOXP3 mRNA and IL-17A mRNA in psoriasis. Materials and methods: Forty-four psoriasis patients and 44 healthy controls were included in the study. Quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) was used for the measurement of miRs. Serum IL-17A levels were determined by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Results: Plasma miR-1910-3p levels were significantly lower in the patient group than the …

The objective of this study was to evaluate the chemical composition, ruminal kinetics, gas production and aerobic stability of sugarcane silage added with increasing levels of sodium benzoate up to 1% of the natural matter. After harvesting, the sugarcane was chopped and placed in experimental polyethylene silos for storage for 30 days. An increasing concentration of sodium benzoate in the silage promoted a linear decrease in the crude protein content, varying from 2.79% to 2.51%. The addition of sodium benzoate reduced the fiber concentration of the silage (P = 0.0015) and increased gas production of the fibrous and nonfibrous carbohydrates …
