The linguistic structure and its impact on the formation of ijtihad tendencies raise an essential issue of the link between words and their meanings, which bears the indication of the importance of the link and the relationship between language on the one hand, and ijtihad tendency on the other hand, and this relationship has accompanied and this connection raised a central question in the language About its nature and origin, which indicates this question of the juristic position of the language between the one who says the language and the one who says the language is conventional. Whoever says stop …

A Linguistic Perspective Of English Eulogies: An Analytical Study, Nadya Khairy Muhamed, Majda Sabri Faris
A Linguistic Perspective Of English Eulogies: An Analytical Study, Nadya Khairy Muhamed, Majda Sabri Faris
Alustath Journal for Human and Social Sciences
The present paper aims at shedding a spotlight on a significant issue in the western life, namely eulogies which are important practices in the western community employed in a funeral of a deceased / living person. However, writing eulogy requires a specific stylishness inscription in order to serve specific functions and purposes so as to mitigate or soften the gloomy effects of the event on his/her family or friends. Metonymy, mitigation of apology and hypophora are regarded as linguistic devices to convey the profound meaning of the eulogist in an elegant way. Exploring these devices , identifying their role in …

Do They Know Or Do They Think They Know? Analyzing Pre-Service Teachers Perceived Cultural Awareness, William Javier Rodriguez-Nieves
Theses and Dissertations
With an increasingly diverse population, are pre-service teachers confident in their abilities to teach Culturally and Linguistically Diverse students? The research available states the importance of teacher becoming culturally aware to work with diverse students, but little is known about how confident pre-service teachers perceive themselves to be in this aspect. This research study seeks to understand how teacher candidates in a teacher preparation program in the Midwest U.S. assess their levels of cultural awareness and how this informs their practice with minoritized students. To understand just how teacher-candidates perceive themselves and implement practices for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse students, …

Characterizing And Categorizing The Essence Of Sport Consumption Behavior: A Thematic Analysis, Sid Terason
The Qualitative Report
Sport consumer decision making is a complex process in which an individual evaluates, acquires, uses, or disposes of sport products or services. This qualitative study aimed to identify, understand, and describe the essential characteristics of sport products consumption behavior among professional athletes in Thailand. In-depth interviewing was carried out on 25 professional athlete consumers who responded to semi-structured questions regarding their sport goods consumption. Thematic analysis was performed on the transcripts to describe the essential characteristics of the consumption and to identify overarching topics. Following social constructionism, three themes (i.e., acquisition, use, and disposal) were analyzed and eight categories (i.e., …

The Mythic Circle
Is it just us, or was 2020-2021 the worst year of the past hundred years? Infections, deaths, lockdowns, and quarantines too long for human endurance just kept on keeping on, intensified by squabbles between proponents of collective health measures (masks, vaccines, social distancing) on one side and of individual personal liberties, regardless of the social and health impact, on the other. But through it all, artists continued to think, dream, and produce new work.

Nurse Educator's Role In Equipping Students With Culturally Competent Skills, Olukemi Kuku
Journal of Interprofessional Practice and Collaboration
Abstract
Nurse educators are responsible for preparing nursing students for safe and effective practice. Culturally competent care ensures patient safety and promotes positive patient outcomes. Twenty-first century society has bowed to globalization, immigration, emerging cultures, and subcultures. This phenomenon necessitates a broadening of the nurse educator’s perception of culture and strategies to facilitate student learning and preparation for effective practice. This article will examine the existing definition of culture and subcultures and discuss some strategies that nurse educators can use to facilitate student learning.

The Sahrawi Hassanicultural heritage, Moroccan identity and regional development through the Moroccan Autonomy Project
Throughout its history,Morocco has always hosted and defended a cultural diversity which gave him strength and singularity. It presents significant regional cultural, ethnic and linguistic specificities without contradicting itself with the national unity of Morocco. In fact, the question of cultural diversity has never arisen in Morocco as a counterweight to the power of the State to recognize regional specificities, On the contrary, the central power in its function of arbiter, did not seek to make one culture dominate over another. He clearly displayed his desire to …

The Field of Argumentation
Argumentation has become one of the favorite subjects of literature in recent years, be it philosophical, logical, linguistic or psychological. In part, this interest is due to a certain almost general infatuation with everything that has to do with Communication. But on the other hand, it answers more fundamental questions, such as the status of ordinary rationality in relation to scientific rationality, or of natural logic in relation to formal logic. In this field, the theoretical approaches to argument are nonetheless so manifold, and their conceptions of the limits of its field so heterogeneous, that it …

The Ait Baarnrane of Sidi Ifni: building an identity and a territory
In AitBaamrane, there exist a rich and diversified variety. They speak Tachelhit, the native Amazigh language of southern Morocco, they use a substantial vocabulary of words from Moroccan dialectal Arabic, classical Arabic, but also sometimes of Spanish and / or French, To this diversity of linguistic borrowings temporal, is added a construction of a complex local identity or the components of the exile of history, of holiness, of the border, of jihad (resistance) on the borders of the territory and the memory occupy a primordial place in the …
Generative Adversarial Networks For Classic Cryptanalysis, Deanne Charan
Generative Adversarial Networks For Classic Cryptanalysis, Deanne Charan
Master's Projects
The necessity of protecting critical information has been understood for millennia. Although classic ciphers have inherent weaknesses in comparison to modern ciphers, many classic ciphers are extremely challenging to break in practice. Machine learning techniques, such as hidden Markov models (HMM), have recently been applied with success to various classic cryptanalysis problems. In this research, we consider the effectiveness of the deep learning technique CipherGAN---which is based on the well- established generative adversarial network (GAN) architecture---for classic cipher cryptanalysis. We experiment extensively with CipherGAN on a number of classic ciphers, and we compare our results to those obtained using HMMs.

A Quest For More Equitable Experiences For All Students During A Global Pandemic: An Inquiry Into Remote Delivery Of De-Tracked Chemistry And Biology Classes, Mayra Cordero, Elizabeth Davis
Journal of Practitioner Research
Through our collaboration, we helped one another rethink and adapt the delivery of our de-tracked science courses for remote instruction as we finished out the 2019-2020 school year, with a particular focus on developing remote instruction practices that would support our learners struggling in our secondary science de-tracked classrooms. We derived three actions to take to target the needs of our students who struggled and to differentiate our instruction. We reduced the amount of material being covered to allow for deeper dives into content, prioritized depth of learning over breadth of learning; connected our remote lessons to our students’ real-world …

Students’ Lived Experiences During The Pandemic: Their Expressions Through Art And Poetry, Blake Beckett, Susan I. Johnson
Journal of Practitioner Research
Blake, a language arts teacher, and Susan, a visual arts teacher, were both committed to connect our students’ lived experiences of the pandemic with their academic learning in our new virtual classroom environments. Through this inquiry cycle, we were reminded of the critical role teachers play in addressing the social and emotional needs of their students, and seamlessly integrating those needs with academic goals. We chose to make our remote instruction platforms work for the individual needs of students rather than use a standardized curriculum enacted on an online platform (McQuirter, 2020). Our students responded, as evidenced in this essay, …

Blind Spots And Bottlenecks For Philosophy Of History, Bennett B. Gilbert
Blind Spots And Bottlenecks For Philosophy Of History, Bennett B. Gilbert
University Studies Faculty Publications and Presentations
Realist history does not meet many human needs. History needs a great deal more philosophy, but of what kind?
In his essay on this blog, "Reflections on Theory of History Polyphonic," Ethan Kleinberg suggests that historians often use theory to block change in their work rather than to advance it. One way they do this, he points out, is to include a little theory in order to inoculate themselves against greater and more fundamental challenges. They give or take a blow, and then hoist up their shield, thereby avoiding philosophy and miniaturizing it into "historical theory."
I cannot …

How Democratic Is Democracy? A History Of Political Corruption In Peru, Kaitlyn Selzler
Great Plains Graduate Review
With the emergence of revisionist scholarship beginning in the 1960’s and 1970’s, scholars have taken terms which had absolute definitions, such as totalitarianism or democracy, and introduced different perspectives and methods which questioned the absolute authority of historical terminology. As a case study into these new historical methodologies, this essay seeks to answer the question: How democratic is Peru’s democracy? To answer this question, this research explores the deep seeded corruption in Latin America, specifically Peru, beginning in 1985 with the election of Alan Garcia, continuing through the presidency of Alberto Fujimori, and eventually ending with the current state of …

BACKGROUND: Day-of-surgery cancellation (DoSC) represents a substantial wastage of hospital resources and can cause significant inconvenience to patients and families. Cancellation is reported to impact between 2% and 20% of the 50 million procedures performed annually in American hospitals. Up to 85% of cancellations may be amenable to the modification of patients' and families' behaviors. However, the factors underlying DoSC and the barriers experienced by families are not well understood.
OBJECTIVE: This study aims to conduct a geospatial analysis of patient-specific variables from electronic health records (EHRs) of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC) and of Texas Children's Hospital (TCH), …

On The Street Where I Live: Mapping A Spectrum Of Antiracist Messages And Meanings, Carla Chamberlin
Journal of Media Literacy Education
This paper describes a critical media analysis of antiracist messages from both teaching and research perspectives. Antiracist discourse of public media (yard signs and websites) was collected in two communities in the Northeastern United States in 2020 and are discussed here, first as a site of social construction of antiracism, and second as a model for pedagogy. As a critical media analysis, this study reveals antiracist messages on continuums from passive to active, low-risk to high risk, self-oriented to other-oriented, and detached “not racist” postures to actively antiracist stances. These continuums encourage interrogation of what it means to be antiracist …

Listen To Your Doppelganger! Global Cultural Empathy For Educators: A Literature Review Based Conceptual Model, Papia Bawa Dr.
Journal of Research Initiatives
Our student populations' diversity now includes African Americans, Native Americans, and Latinos, as classrooms represent various cultural backgrounds. This shift in student population dynamics brings fresh challenges to educator's unpreparedness to identify with the unique cultural identities of international students. The cultural dissonance that international students face compounds this challenge since the cultural unawareness and misconceptions may be generated from both educators and student groups. The Doppelganger Inspired Change Effect model or DICE discussed in this article is inspired by an extensive literature review. It elucidates a process of fostering global cultural empathy and preparedness of educators by linking such …
