Service Utilization Among Latina Survivors Of Intimate Partner Violence, Alyssa Donovan Aug 2021

Service Utilization Among Latina Survivors Of Intimate Partner Violence, Alyssa Donovan

College of Science and Health Theses and Dissertations

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is an international health issue disproportionately affecting women, which is associated with a range of severe physical and mental health sequelae (Black et al., 2011). Research has demonstrated that individual factors, such as violence severity, and systemic factors, such as poverty, affect whether women seek formal help, including mental health, police, and legal services, in response to IPV (Lelaurain, Graziani, & Monaco, 2017). Latina women have voiced many challenges to seeking formal help (Rizo & Macy, 2011). These include limited economic resources, language gaps in service provision, and factors related to immigration (Rizo & Macy, 2011). …

How Structural Competency Can Help Dismantle Structural Racism, Peter S. Cahn, Phd

Collaborative Healthcare: Interprofessional Practice, Education and Evaluation (JCIPE)

In the case of Mr. Sinclair, any proponent of interprofessional collaborative practice could identify lapses in team performance. Failures in communication prevented crucial information from reaching the appropriate health professionals. Some members of the hospital staff may not have fully understood the scope of their and their colleagues' roles. Fellow patients exhibited more respect for Mr. Sinclair's dignity than the clinicians who encountered Mr. Sinclair.

All Decisions

J. Slade grants landlord’s motion for use and occupancy pendente lite from the date oral application was made in this 2018 non payment proceeding. Here a succession claim was asserted. The court noted this is a pre-HSTPA case but given unique history (lengthy APS delays, landlord’s motion for discovery) and sets use and occupancy at one third of respondent’s social security check amount. Ed Josephson sent an e mail about this case’s significance when it was sent last week in the Slip Op format and provided a practice advisory regarding it as the court here indicates it has discretion outside …

Patterns And Trends Among Intimate Partner Homicide Cases: An Analysis By Victim’S Sex And Race/Ethnicity, Shih-Ying Cheng Aug 2021

Patterns And Trends Among Intimate Partner Homicide Cases: An Analysis By Victim’S Sex And Race/Ethnicity, Shih-Ying Cheng

Arts & Sciences Graduate Student Theses and Dissertations

Data suggest sex and race/ethnicity disparities in intimate partner homicide (IPH) and different trends in the IPH rates over time by sex and racial/ethnic groups. It is, however, less clear how to explain the disparities using the existing literature. This dissertation investigates the patterns and trends among IPH cases with a focus on differences within and between victims’ sex and race/ethnicity subgroups using the National Violent Death Reporting System, Restricted Access Database (NVDRS-RAD). Data were linked to Census and policy data using the geographic indicator in the NVDRS-RAD. Latent class analysis (LCA) and mixed-effects modeling were performed to identify patterns …

Spinning At The Border: Employee Activism In 'Big Pr', Camille Reyes Aug 2021

Spinning At The Border: Employee Activism In 'Big Pr', Camille Reyes

Communication Faculty Research

This article extends Coombs and Holladay’s (2018) social issues management model to provide new perspectives on activism and public relations. It also fills a gap in the literature on internal activism by analyzing the case of The Ogilvy Group and their employees, many of whom pushed for the agency to resign its work for U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Through a textual analysis of a leaked transcript documenting a meeting between Ogilvy management and internal activist employees, the communicative tasks of definition, legitimation, and awareness (Coombs & Holladay, 2018) are explored in a way that complicates identity and power. As …

Interprofessional Education For Interpreting And Social Work Students—Design And Evaluation, Jim Hlavac, Bernadette J. Saunders

International Journal of Interpreter Education

Public service interpreters and social workers frequently work with each other. A training approach that seeks to bring learners from two professional areas together is interprofessional education. This paper describes and discusses interprofessional education sessions for interpreting and social work students conducted over 3 years. We report on how these were designed and delivered and on students’ evaluation of learning outcomes. Evaluations from students were elicited via anonymous questionnaires in paper/ electronic form. Responses were gained from 218 of 442 participating students on the following: level of confidence to later work with professionals of the other disciplinary background; level of …

Top Legal Executives And Mergers And Acquisitions Process And Outcomes, Suye Wang Aug 2021

Top Legal Executives And Mergers And Acquisitions Process And Outcomes, Suye Wang

Accounting Dissertations - Archive

The role of a firm’s in-house top legal executives has become more prominent in recent years due to regulatory changes, increasing litigation, and growing risk and liability in the corporate world. Top legal executives act as trusted advisers to top management and board of directors in strategic decision-making. In this dissertation, I develop a measure of top legal executive influence in the acquiring firm and examine whether the top legal executive’s influence is associated with mergers and acquisitions (M&A) process and outcomes. I find that top legal executive influence is associated with shorter public process length (deal announcement to deal …
