Engaging English Learners In Purposeful Discourse In Elementary Mathematics, Karlyn E. Davis-Welton Jan 2021

Engaging English Learners In Purposeful Discourse In Elementary Mathematics, Karlyn E. Davis-Welton

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Teachers are experiencing a change in practice, from teacher-centered to student-centered, which affects their work with English learners (ELs) in third through fifth grade mathematics classrooms. The implementation of student-centered discourse practices is essential to orchestrating productive mathematical discussions. However, the common practice is teacher-centered instruction where teacher talk is prevalent. Although the school district in this study provided professional development (PD) to address student-centered practices, PD for teaching ELs to interact in English in their mathematics classrooms remained to be addressed. The purpose of this study was to gain an understanding of teachers’ experiences with new discourse practices and …

The social-ecological model guided this study. In this quantitative cross-sectional study, data from the 2019 U.S. National Survey on Drug Use and Health that included 14,226 young adults aged 18 to …

Leadership And Continuous Improvement In The Nigerian Beverage Industry, John Chinonye Njoku Jan 2021

Leadership And Continuous Improvement In The Nigerian Beverage Industry, John Chinonye Njoku

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

There is a high failure rate of continuous improvement (CI) initiatives in the beverage industry. Continuous improvement initiatives could help beverage manufacturing managers improve product quality, efficiency, and overall performance. Grounded in the transformational leadership theory, the purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between idealized influence, intellectual stimulation, and CI. Nigerian beverage industry managers (N = 160) who participated in the study completed the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire Form 5X-Short, and the Plan, Do, Check, and Act (PDCA) cycle. The results of the multiple linear regression were statistically significant, F(2, 157) = 16.428, p < 0.001, R2 = 0.173. Idealized influence (ß = 0.242, p = 0.000) and intellectual stimulation (ß = 0.278, p = 0.000) were both significant predictors. A key recommendation is for beverage manufacturing managers to promote their employees' creativity, rational thinking, and critical problem-solving skills. The implications for positive social change include the potential to increase the opportunity for the growth and sustainability of the beverage industry.

The Relationship Between Hospitals’ Electronic Health Records Maturity And Excess Readmission Ratio, Cynthia Saint-Ulysse

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Since the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act was enacted in 2009, a majority of U.S. hospitals have adopted electronic health records (EHR) to improve quality of care. However, variations exist in the technology's capability and maturity, making it difficult for researchers to analyze the full impact. The purpose of this quantitative study was to explore the relationship between hospitals' EHR maturity and the quality measure of excess readmissions, as well as the relationship between hospital characteristics, specifically, hospital location and the number of licensed beds in Medicare hospitals (N = 1,006). Both the chi-square statistical test …

Elementary Stakeholder Perceptions Of Data Team Discussions Influence On Instructional Adjustments, Michelle Shay Jan 2021

Elementary Stakeholder Perceptions Of Data Team Discussions Influence On Instructional Adjustments, Michelle Shay

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Federal law requires schools to conduct formative, summative, and diagnostic assessments to inform instructional strategies. However, the collection of student accountability compliance data has not always resulted in improved student academic achievement. Effect Of Clinical Trial Participation On Patient Experience And Overall Hospital Scores, Bridget Tyrka Jan 2021

Effect Of Clinical Trial Participation On Patient Experience And Overall Hospital Scores, Bridget Tyrka

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractDespite groundbreaking advances in technology and medicine in the United States and intensive examination of health services quality initiatives, issues of quality and patient-reported experience measures in the hospital sector remain unimproved. Although evidence-based medicine has improved through innovation in clinical research, healthcare systems have reportedly struggled to implement advances in medicine and lack the skill sets to become learning health systems. As clinical practice and clinical trials (CTs) have rarely intersected in the past, a significant lack of quantitative research has been dedicated to correlate improved patient outcomes with participation in CTs. The analysis sought a correlation, if any, …

Exploring Quality Management Strategies To Mitigate Culture Shock Among Cochlear Implant Users, Victor Mulume' Ambila

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

AbstractAfter the cochlear implant (CI) activation period and therapy, adult CI users who travel overseas encounter culture shock factors that paralyze their coping capability, which need normalization through management strategies during the post-cochlear-implantation process (PCIP). In the structure of the conceptual framework, a plan is presented for addressing the management strategy. An integrated system of product-process-service-care portrays the product as an active implant within an individual bearer fostering a CI user’s physical, physiological, and psychological traits. The problematic aspects alter the end users’ coping capability in an unfamiliar host environment abroad. The qualitative research approach used was a single case …
