All biological processes in plant or animal organisms, including in the human body, are carried out in solutions. Therefore, the progress of sciences such as biology, medicine, etc., is closely related to the development of the doctrine of solutions. When dissolved, various chemical interactions occur between the components and due to Van der Waals force, etc. One of the methods for determining the ion molecular interaction is the study of the partial molar volume of electrolytes.

Unlike microbes that infect the human body, cancer cells are descended from normal cells and are not easily recognizable as “foreign” by the immune system of the host. However, if the malignant cells can be specifically earmarked for attack by a synthetic “designator”, the powerful effector mechanisms of the immune response can be conscripted to treat cancer. To implement this strategy, we have been developing aptamer-derived molecular adaptors to invoke synthetic immune responses against cancer cells. Here we describe multi-valent aptamers that simultaneously bind target molecules on the surface of cancer cells and an activated complement protein, which would tag …

Commit messages are the atomic level of software documentation. They provide a natural language description of the code change and its purpose. Messages are critical for software maintenance and program comprehension. Unlike documenting feature updates and bug fixes, little is known about how developers document their refactoring activities. Specifically, developers can perform multiple refactoring operations, including moving methods, extracting classes, renaming attributes, for various reasons, such as improving software quality, managing technical debt, and removing defects. Yet, there is no systematic study that analyzes the extent to which the documentation of refactoring accurately describes the refactoring operations performed at the …

Equality And Closure: The Paradox Of Local Citizenship, Kenneth A. Stahl Dec 2021

Equality And Closure: The Paradox Of Local Citizenship, Kenneth A. Stahl

Texas A&M Journal of Property Law

In Bourgeois Utopias, a cultural history of suburbia in America, Robert Fishman states the fundamental paradox about the suburbs: “[H]ow can a form based on the principle of exclusion include every-one?” The promise of the American suburb was that every middle-class family would be able to own a home with a yard, but this egalitarian ideal was illusory because what made the suburbs appealing was precisely what it excluded, namely everything having to do with the city—its congestion, political corruption, and most importantly, its racial diversity. And so, as suburbia was mass-produced and made avail-able with cheap low-interest loans …

How Judicial Application Of Cda § 230 And Fha § 3604 Have Created Safe Havens For Online Housing Discrimination, Sophia A. Studer

Richmond Journal of Law & Technology

This article analyzes how the anti-discrimination language of Fair Housing Act section 3604 is currently out of reach for people being discriminated against online through the exclusionary language of Communications Decency Act section 230(c). The exclusionary language in CDA section 230(c) prevents liability from attaching to interactive computer service providers so long as the interactive computer service provider is not a creator or developer of information. Through the decisions of Zeran, Craigslist, and Roommate, the federal appellate courts created broad shield of immunity for interactive computer service providers, leading to a safe haven for discrimination online. Together the courts and …

Plagiarism Of The Plates? The Validity Of Accusations Against Diderot's Encyclopédie (1751-1772), Ian Curtis Dec 2021

Plagiarism Of The Plates? The Validity Of Accusations Against Diderot's Encyclopédie (1751-1772), Ian Curtis

Student Summer Scholars Manuscripts

A literary monument of the eighteenth century, the French Encyclopédie (1751–1772) was a massive reference work written by a team of experts that aimed to depict arts and crafts in unprecedented detail. It eventually grew to contain twenty-eight large folio volumes but the journey there was filled with uncertainty due to royal suppressions from seditious and anti-religious ideas and accusations of plagiarism. Since 1951, scholars have studied one of these accusations, made by architect Pierre Patte against the plates, editor Denis Diderot, and the four publishers. This scandal, which is critical in the history of the Encyclopédie, has faded from …

BACKGROUND: Diagnosing cardiac amyloidosis (CA) from cine-CMR (cardiac magnetic resonance) alone is not reliable. In this study, we tested if a convolutional neural network (CNN) could outperform the visual diagnosis of experienced operators.

METHOD: 119 patients with cardiac amyloidosis and 122 patients with left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) of other origins were retrospectively selected. Diastolic and systolic cine-CMR images were preprocessed and labeled. A dual-input visual geometry group (VGG ) model was used for binary image classification. All images belonging to the same patient were distributed in the same set. Accuracy and area under the curve (AUC) were calculated per frame …

An Analysis Of The Thai Translations Of Symbolic And Iconic Hybridity In Beloved And Things Falls Apart, Narongdej Phanthaphoommee

Journal of Letters

The objective of this study is to investigate Thai translations of postcolonial and African-American literature that contain linguistic hybridity as one of their main characteristics. The study applies Klinger’s (2015) concepts of symbolic and iconic hybridity in narration to explanations of the writers’ and translators’ intention to abrogate English writing norms by using non-standard language. The findings reveal that the Thai translators were unable to maintain the linguistic hybridity found in the source texts due to their use of additional cushioning and grammatically correct Thai language. Hence, the intention of the source texts to abrogate standard English disappears from the …

Trust, Privacy, And Adaptive Forwarding In Wireless Named-Data Networks, Muktadir Rahman Chowdhury

Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive

Today’s Internet falls short in supporting robust data delivery and strong data security in a wireless mobile environment, due to its host-based communication model and container-based security model. Named Data Networking (NDN) is a data-centric network architecture that provides a stateful forwarding plane and built-in security support. This work proposes forwarding strategies for NDN-based mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) and infrastructure-based wireless networks, and mechanisms for securing NDN-based vehicular networks. First, we propose Content Connectivity and Location-Aware Forwarding (CCLF), a forwarding strategy for MANETs. CCLF broadcasts NDN packets and lets each node make independent decisions on whether to forward packets based …

Community Structure Of Serrated Tussock (Nassella Trichotoma) Infested Grasslands, Warwick B. Badgery, David R. Kemp, D. L. Michalk, W. Mcg. King

IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)

Serrated tussock (Nassella trichotoma) is the most serious perennial grass weed in southeastern Australia, extending over more than a million hectares. Previous control techniques using herbicides and oversowing with competitive pastures are no longer feasible in many of the lower fertility, infested areas. New management solutions need to be found, based upon a better understanding of the ecology of this species. A survey was done to determine the community structure of serrated tussock infested grasslands. Winter growing C3 grasses were closely associated with serrated tussock, while C4 perennial grasses appeared not to be. It is not known if …

Winning Strategy For Multiplayer And Multialliance Geometric Game, Jingkai Ye

Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal

The Geometric Sequence with common ratio 2 is one of the most well-known geometric sequences. Every term is a nonnegative power of 2. Using this popular sequence, we can create a Geometric Game which contains combining moves (combining two copies of the same terms into the one copy of next term) and splitting moves (splitting three copies of the same term into two copies of previous terms and one copy of the next term). For this Geometric Game, we are able to prove that the game is finite and the final game state is unique. Furthermore, we are able to …
