Can We Build It? An Action Research Study Of Integrated Academics And Resilience, Shanda Jones
Doctor of Education Dissertations
This study was an action research project seeking to gather evidence regarding the impact of integrating academic objectives and resiliency-building topics. As the focus on trauma and mental health increased, literature provided rich descriptions of how trauma may negatively impact students. Research presented findings indicating potential physical, mental, emotional, social, academic, and behavioral effects resulting from trauma. What was lacking were studies investigating the impact of implementing trauma-informed instructional strategies. In an effort to address gaps in the literature and improve professional practice, action research in a mixed methods approach was conducted with two research questions exploring the impact, if …

Mitigating The Environmental Impacts Of Explosive Ordnance And Land Release, Mine Action Review
Global CWD Repository
Environmental considerations are rightly gaining increased prominence and awareness. Environmental experts agree that unprecedented changes in climate and biodiversity are taking place, threatening nature and human livelihoods around the world. The humanitarian community increasingly understands the need to identify and assess how their operations affect the natural environment and to mitigate the negative environmental impacts wherever possible.
The mine action sector has begun to recognise that in order to follow the humanitarian principle of “do no harm” it must be aware of and take action to mitigate the potential environmental damage that can occur during land release operations. While an …

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology has revolutionized sequence-based research. In recent years, high-throughput sequencing has become the method of choice in studying the toxicity of chemical agents through observing and measuring changes in transcript levels. Engineered nanomaterial (ENM)-toxicity has become a major field of research and has adopted microarray and newer RNA-Seq methods. Recently, nanotechnology has become a promising tool in the diagnosis and treatment of several diseases in humans. However, due to their high stability, they are likely capable of remaining in the body and environment for long periods of time. Their mechanisms of toxicity and long-lasting effects on our …
Contested Civic Space: The Piazza Della Signoria In Medicean Florence, Joanne Wisely
Contested Civic Space: The Piazza Della Signoria In Medicean Florence, Joanne Wisely
Senior Honors Theses and Projects
The heart of civic life in Renaissance Florence was an open square called the Piazza della Signoria. The piazza was the site of debates, executions, and power struggles, making it the most contested space in the city. Florentines held tremendous pride in their republic and often commissioned sculptural works to represent their civic values, displaying them publicly in the piazza. This research examines the shifting messages of sculptural works in the Piazza della Signoria during three distinct periods: from the piazza's creation in 1300 until 1494; from the expulsion of the Medici in 1494 until their return in 1512; and …

Artistic Representations Of Goitre In Early Modern Art In Italy, Danielle Carrabino
Artistic Representations Of Goitre In Early Modern Art In Italy, Danielle Carrabino
Museum of Art: Books
Chapter abstract:
Sometimes accompanied by cretinism, which stunts physical and cognitive development, goitre was described in ancient and early modern texts alike as especially prominent, or 'endemic', among the low, labouring class living in the mountainous regions of Italy. Close analysis of the sculptures at the Sacro Monte of Varallo, Caravaggio's Crucifixion of Saint Andrew, Neapolitan presepi, and Ribera's prints will expand on Merke's categories to demonstrate that the representation of goitre in this period was varied and complex. Caricature is the vehicle for another source of the definition of goitre in early modern Italy. Moreover, the sheet provides evidence …

Neurosciences
Objectives: To compare the levels of plasma glutamate and glutamine in drug-resistant or drug-responsive symptomatic focal epilepsy. Dysfunctional glutamate neurotransmission plays an essential role in epilepsy pathophysiology. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 80 drug-resistant and 42 drug-responsive symptomatic focal epileptic patients and 132 healthy controls from June 2017 to February 2018. Plasma glutamate and glutamine levels were assessed via high-performance liquid chromatography. Results: Patients with drug-resistant symptomatic focal epilepsy had significantly higher plasma glutamate levels than healthy controls, whereas those with the drug-responsive disease had higher plasma glutamine levels than healthy controls. These results indicate that plasma glutamate and glutamine …

North of İstanbul, the thick Upper Cretaceous volcanic and volcanoclastic sequence of the Yemişliçay Group is nonconformably overlain by the neritic clastic and carbonate sequence of the Zekeriyaköy Formation. This unit, either placed within the volcanic sequence or interpreted to overlie it, was studied near Zekeriyaköy for its larger foraminifera, previously recurrently referred to as the Maastrichtian. The basal epiclastic sandstone beds of the Zekeriyaköy Formation immediately above the volcanic sequence contain Praesiderolites dordoniensis and rare rudist shells. The higher sandstone and limestone beds comprise assemblages of Lepidorbitoides campaniensis, Orbitoides megaloformis, Vanderbeekia catalana, Siderolites gr. calcitrapoides, Sirtina orbitoidiformis, Praestorrsella roestae, …
Exploring The Dynamics Of Small Pelagic Fish Catches In The Marmara Sea In Relation Tochanging Environmental And Bio-Optical Parameters, Eki̇n Akoğlu
Turkish Journal of Zoology
The Marmara Sea has a large drainage basin that includes cities with heavy industrialisation and agricultural land use. Therefore, it is under the influence of significant anthropogenic activities that adversely affect the well-being of its ecosystem. The Marmara Sea is also an important fishing ground with many commercially important fish species. These fish species are also under the influence of the adverse impacts of anthropogenic activities. Fisheries catches in the Marmara Sea had experienced severe fluctuations since the onset of the 2000s. In this study, possible underlying reasons for these fluctuations were investigated between 2000 and 2019 using remotelysensed environmental …

The water quality of rivers located in areas close to major cities is deteriorating significantly due to increased pollution. The Karasu River, which passes through Erzurum city Turkey, is getting polluted day by day due to domestic and industrial wastewater. In the study, various assessments were made in three different fish species to determine the impact of possible contamination here. Capoeta capoeta, Alburnus mossulensis and Squalius cephalus were caught from four stations of the river. Micronucleus test was applied to find out genotoxic alterations, and plasma total oxidant status (TOS) and total antioxidant status (TAS) were measured to determine oxidative …

Kinorhynchs From Sandy Coastal Habitats In Turkey, With The Description Of A New Pan-Mediterranean Species Of Echinoderes (Cyclorhagida: Echinoderidae), Martin Vinther Sørensen, Maria Herranz, Fernando Pardos, Furkan Durucan
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Kinorhynchs from eight sandy, shallow water localities along the west and south coasts of Turkey were examined. The study resulted in the finding of six different species: Two species, Echinoderes gerardi and Cephalorhyncha flosculosa were known from Turkey, two species, Echinoderes riedli and Campyloderes vanhoeffeni were known from the Mediterranean, but are new to Turkey, and two species, Echinoderes sp. and E. shahmaranae sp. nov. are new to science. Echinoderes sp. resembles E. charlotteae from the Gulf of Mexico, but differs at some minor points. However, since only a single specimen was available, only diagnostic details, but no formal description, …
